I had been to this place many times before, but had never noticed that there is no name or number…read moreto this taquería, having been drawn in by the smell and the sight of the trompo, and the various meats for the tacos that ignite my instinct to order tacos without noticing anything else. I asked one of the taqueros who works there what the name of the place was, to which he responded, in Spanish of course, "I think it's Los Gueros, or something like that'. These are probably the best tacos along Paseo de Amsterdam/Ave. Chabacano in this area of town, and are best known by its unofficial name 'los tacos del Oxxo de Tejeda', or maybe that's just the name my friends and I give it because of its location (between a Michoacana and an Oxxo), and their carefree attitude towards the administrative side of the business. It seems that they're just there to sell tacos, and they do an excellent job doing just that. Their taco options include suadero, cabeza, longaniza, and bistec, but where they truly excel at is in their tripa and al pastor tacos. The tripa is amazing, crispy and not too fatty, with an awesome nutty flavor that makes your mouth water and keep ordering tacos even after you're full. It's hard to find good pastor in Querétaro, but they do a pretty good job of keeping their trompo on point, and their seasoning balanced. Their other options aren't bad either, but not as good as the tripa and the al pastor. Their salsas could also use more seasoning, as they don't seem to add much to the tacos except spiciness, which a good salsa does, but it also enriches the taco. They also have quesadillas and gringas, which are not far from the ordinary I hear. Awesome place to try; very full at nights, even on weekdays, so plan to come early or get in line inside the taqueria. Just a testament to how good these tacos are!

We knew about this taco cart from PBS celebrity chef Pati Jinich as part of her travels to SMA. One of three stellar spots she recommended, the other two were Los Milagros (review: https://yelp.to/Akl564fa67) and San Agustin Chocolates y Churros (review: https://yelp.to/odzpLVN7Fg). It was about 9PM when we arrived, a good thing since they don't start firing up the grill until 7PM every evening. The seats were already filled, and there was a distinct vibe that this was a hangout for devoted regulars. We weren't aware that the full name of the business is Andy's Pastor Taco Cart even though Pati even talked about the pastor in the video clip. In fact, the prominent vertical spit was made of their specialty pastor made of thinly sliced pork shoulder. The differentiator is that it's marinated in a mixture of dried chiles (ancho, guajillo, chipotle), achiote paste, citrus juices (lime and pineapple), vinegar, and pronounced spices like cumin and oregano. Alas, we instead for a couple of the MX$35 Carne Asada Tacos (Photo 8). No question they were quite tasty but probably no better than any other popular taqueria in town. We'll just have to come back to San Miguel de Allende and do right by Andy. Sorry Pati. FOOD - 4 stars...top flight taco even if it wasn't their signature one AMBIANCE - 4 stars...convivial space on the street even though there were no seats for us SERVICE - 3.5 stars...they're quick...wish they marketed their pastor more prominently TOTAL - 4 stars...Andy deserves another visit someday RELATED - Exploring San Miguel de Allende? Came here when they just opened at around 7:20pm and was able to get some delicious tacos with no line which was great! - Bistek Taco - I really appreciate that the meats were bursting with flavor and that the beef was quite tender. At first glance, the bistek and the costilla seemed pretty similar, but you definitely could taste the steak chunks in there. - Costilla Taco - This was definitely the highlight of the three tacos and the best taco I've had in Mexico thus far, granted I've only eaten it at 3 different places. The meat was so well marinated and went very well with the tortilla and onions. - Campechanos Taco - I was not as big of a fan of this one as the meat had a reddish look to them and a spice that I was not very familiar with. Could skip. Overall, highly recommend both the costilla and bistek tacos. Also they were so affordable too at 75 pesos for 3! Definitely should not miss out when in SMA.

You will find many taquerias in Querétaro, nearly all of them offering Tacos Al Pastor, but only a few are able to offer a good-tasting taco, and even less will amaze you with their mastery in building their trompo, both in shape and flavor. These guys have their Al Pastor figured out. Packed with flavor, perfectly balanced seasoning, juicy, and a bit crispy, the Al Pastor here might be a contender for the best in the city. Try it as a taco, or in quesadilla or gringa form if you enjoy hot and gooey cheese. Their tortas, as simple as they may be, are also tasty. In short, their Al Pastor is great delivered in every form. The other meat options on their menu are fantastic as well. The tripa is great in taste and texture, which has become a rare sighting in taquerias. The suadero and cabeza are also delicious and great options to accompany your Al Pastor and elevate your taco count. The service is also incredibly fast; even on their busiest nights you'll be able to get your tacos in less than a couple of minutes, and you can count on them being very busy on most nights. This is a great taqueria in this part of town, definitely worth trying once or twice or thrice.

We started with complimentary fresh salsas and a savory cheesy bite. Very nice! One of the salsas had a real spicy kick, which I enjoyed. Also split and shared: - Sopa de Lima, a regional chicken and lime soup. Loved this! It was a light, brothy dish, and felt very nourishing. Delicious. Also tried adding some of the fresh salsas (as suggested). - Enchiladas Mole Negro. I'm glad I tried this one! Made me feel like I've never actually had authentic mole in my life. This was really rich, with complex flavor. Was sweet as well, and savory. - Tacos Cochinita Pibil. Yummy! Loved this with the salsas as well. Which, by the way, were refilled! A friend got the grasshopper appetizer as well which turned out to be a pretty sizeable plate full. So we all got to try that as well! Not bad not bad. Not quite what I was expecting, but I was happy to try it! (I thought they'd be salty and crunchy; actually they were softer and tasted a bit tea like. Leisurely and relaxed dining. Nice drinks too.
