Small town Arkansas Mexican food. Quality food, large servings, very lightly seasoned. Adequate service, clean comfortable dining room. El Parian fairly large cartel, with restaurants scattered scattered across Arkansas. The green salsa is very good. Ask for it. You will need it if you favor a little more spice. I had the Especial El Parian, aka mixed fajitas (Shrimp, chicken, beef and chorizo). Lots of meat, fresh peppers, tomatoes and onions all on a hot cast iron skillet. The chorizo helped to deliver flavor to the meal. This is recommended, but you better be hungry. Check the pictures. My wife had the simple lunch special. Found in almost every Mexican restaurant, the Speedy Gonzales. Taco, enchilada and beans at a bargain price of $6.99. There is another Mexican restaurant on the other end of town. I can't speak for the dining in experience, but my sister was craving Mexican food so she picked up a chicken chimichanga: sub fajita meat/no onions for me and some chips, salsa, and queso. I'm always wary of Mexican food I haven't prepared myself because I've been to many Mexican restaurants in my life and I've yet to find one clean enough to visit twice. However, I am rating this on the food alone since I have never been inside. The chicken was tough, flavorless, and while they omitted most of the onion in the chimichanga, they put a pile of raw onion next to it, the so called "pico de gallo." The guacamole was not fresh at all and the chips were slightly stale. The rice was of poor quality, the beans were no better. All in all, a very sub-par meal. I really did not appreciate the multiple unripe tomato tops accidentally thrown in my chimichanga instead of the trash, along with bell pepper tops and bottoms. One is pictured. I was in town camping at Mount Magazine for my birthday weekend. I wanted a real birthday meal and thought I'd contribute my money to a local Mexican restaurant instead of a chain restaurant. I wasn't expecting 5 star quality of food, but I wasn't expecting what I had gotten. The food was disappointing. It was almost as if they forgot what good Mexican food was like. Nothing had flavor. Even the thing that's easy to get right, (guacamole) didn't have any flavor in it, just seemed to be pureed avocado. It's almost like the "Mexican" food they had was catered to the palate of the locals who probably couldn't handle any flavor so they made everything as bland as possible. Extremely fast and friendly. Nice environment and exceptional customer service. Have only had a bad dish on one occasion, but that could be due to Taco Bell manipulating me into believing a chalupa is something it isn't. Quality food for very reasonable prices. Do not expect Tex-Mex or Mexican food from this restaurant. The presentation is fine and the decorations are appropriate. The flavor just isn't there. The salsa tasted like tomato sauce. The fajitas were a rather bland disappointment. The hottest item I could find to add some flavor was a grilled jalapeño that got to the table 5 minutes ahead of the food. Service was unimpressive. They took out order and dropped off our food. Bare minimal effort by the staff. Drive a little further. Save your money for a tasty meal elsewhere. read more

After reading the reviews, and talking to locals my husband & I decided to try this place for ourselves. To say the least I was very disappointed. First of all it's the first Mexican restaurant that I've ever been in that does not serve cerveza (beer). I ordered unsweet tea, my husband sweet tea. Two sweet teas came to the table, I sent mine back & the error was corrected until refill time, then it was refilled with sweet tea. My husband ordered the Carne Asada, now I took into account that out here it is not easy to find flank steak, so it was milanesa cut of meat, however it was not tenderized, nor was it marinaded in the traditional carne asada marinade, further more it was fried, not grilled. This resulted in a bland, tough, dry steak. The rice was the same for both of us, dry, and bland. There was no cilantro, no onion, no garlic, no tomato bullion flavors in the rice. This was not traditional Arroz Rojo. The beans again these were not traditional frijoles de olla (beans in a pot) nor frijoles refritos (refried beans). The beans were bland, there was no flavoring in them at all, no bacon or ham (either can be used). The consistency was neither, but a combination of the two, making the beans look awful on the plate. My husband did say the guacamole was good, I'm not a fan of it myself so I didn't try it. I ordered the combination with a stuffed poblano and an enchilada, it came with rice & beans. I really wanted Chili Rellenos but that was not on the menu. Both the poblano & enchilada were very bland, and they were drowning in a queso sauce (cheese sauce). A little cheese would be fine, but this was way too much. They do not serve sopas (soups) which I find very disappointing. The server was a bit shocked when I even asked about sopas and chili rellenos. I asked for a side of jalapeños because the food really was bland, there was no mexican flavors to it all. The young girl (perhaps 10?) went to ask her mother about it, and the woman looked at me, looked at the girl, looked puzzled. I then saw her speak to my server, and then my jalapeños were brought out. My husband & I shared a fried ice cream (he had never had that before), however that was the only dessert they had, no flan. I'm not a huge fan of fried ice cream, but my husband enjoyed it. As for the service, it could be more friendly, they could come back to check on you, to see how you were doing, if everything was good, etc. like most restaurants do. Will I return, perhaps one more time to try out the Chili Verde, but as for traditional mexican food, it looks like I will continue making that at home. read more

OMG were do I start the food here is horrible cold nasty fajitas the service was not all that great they lied to my husband and told him that they didn't have any shrimp then one person said they had shrimp so they had to give him a discount. First of all, lets start with the service. When we first sat down we were greeted with a half hearted smile. We were given our menus and we were deciding what to eat. It took 17 minutes for us to get some chips and salsa which by the time they got to our table where absolutely horrid. I had the carnitas as my main course. They tasted all right at first but made my stomach very queasy. Within fifteen minutes of my first bite I threw up all my food into the toilet. Pesonally, I would not recommend it unless you enjoy laying down in bed for the remainder of your trip if you are not a local. I live in San Diego and when I come to visit family about once a year I need my fix of a "real" restaurant......This is Arkansas, so El Parian is it!!...Food does the trick the Queso (which the Southerners refer to as "white sauce") is awesome......I am not too picky with my Mexican food....so as long as it is cheesy and saucy I am easy to please............The service is actually so good it is almost ridiculous........recommend these guys opening a drive through window with burritos. read more

I am a local regular and still enjoy this restaurant. The food is what you would expect from the garden variety Mexican food joint. It's not fancy and it's not trashy. When a family member got married, his father treated the wedding party to dinner. The 40+ people didn't have any problems and their glasses stayed full. read more
