I wasn't…read moreplanning on visiting the zoo except our Park Guell tickets gave us discount, so it made the decision much easier for me. The zoo's layout is quite good - there are 2 sides once you enter the main entrance, and each exhibit is not too far from each other so you can essentially follow the road and be able to see every single animal the zoo has to offer. The cafeteria is overpriced as expected, but at least the food is decent for what you have to pay. The souvenir shop's attendant wasn't as friendly as we expected, but we still ended up getting a few items so the kids have something to remember this place by.

I wanted to get away from La Ramblas, Gaudy, Picasso and the tourists just for one afternoon, and I succeeded. As soon as I entered the zoo, I felt like this zoo is pretty much a large open space zoo, meaning animals are not roaming around, but pretty close to the people inside the low fences. I don't know how far I walked, but saw a lot of animals in the zoo. I love to walk around zoo in any city. This zoo is perfect for that reason.

We actually happened upon it on accident as we were walking around and then we came back our last day. Beautiful Park lots of things to see. The fountain is amazing just gorgeous huge fountain lots of birds there. Great place for pictures right beside the fountain or up the stairs to the fountain. Lots of musicians and street performers around the park. I really am a bird fanatic so I was thrilled to see so many wild parakeets in the park. There are people feeding the parakeets bird seeds and you put some in your hand and they'll land in your hand and eat there. I loved it. There are some homeless people and one of them kind of threw a insane fit while we were there but no one was hurt he kicked over a barrier and was yelling at people. But that can happen anywhere just use caution anywhere you go. There is neat statues and there's also a little lake or pond where they had people renting rowboats we didn't do that but that looked like fun.

I was aware that the aquarium was on the small side but didn't realize how small (I think "dingy" is more appropriate lol) until we were there. Our favorite part (and the only saving grace of this place) was the giant conveyor belt path in the center of the aquarium where you can just stand on it and the belt takes you around the entire display tank without you needing to take a single step!

The time we visited, there was an ice skating rink at the entrance. I believe its $7dlls to use the facility. We walked around the entire park and it took us all day. There were vendors with lots of delicious snacks and food that we didnt really venture to try. At the area where the animals are at, there were guys walking around with frozen margaritas and churros. The animals looked happy and comfortable. My daughter enjoyed it and the families that were there also seemed to be enjoying their time. I do not think there are other zoos around the town and given that is free, it seems like a great option for those with low budgets and kiddos to entertain. There were also rides for the kids, a large grass area where people was chilling and having picnics. There were pools at sight but they weren't in use, probably they are open during summer, we visited during winter time. They also have a lake where you can ride the little boats and just hang out. Overall this park is pretty fun and yeah maybe is not the San Diego zoo but its another face to Tj which currently rates to the 5th most dangerous city in the world. Who would have thought they could care to have a free zoo? Kudos.
