Wasn't too sure about this place when we first drove up since the area is a little sketchy and the restaurant looked a little outdated but let me tell you, don't let the looks fool you! Very authentic and homemade Mexican food!! I had their special which I can't remember the name but it includes nopales and a steak. It was amazing!!! My sister had the menudo and she said it was very tasty! Service was quick and they were very friendly! We also had the agua de Jamaica and it was very refreshing. Prices were great too! Hired them to cater our wedding and am so happy with the results. We had a 200 person event and so many people continue to compliment us on the deliciousness of the tacos. Seriously 5 separate guests have told us it was the best food they've ever had at a wedding. Also service was amazing. They managed to feed 200 guests in an hour with multiple people going back for seconds. They also were able to provide tacos de papa as a vegan/vegetarian option that everyone LOVED. It's 4:30pm on a Thursday. Walk in and the from door is opened and hustle and bustle in the kitchen. Sounds like they're cleaning. A girl walks out the back and says "oh, we're closed". Their yelp and maps info both say open till 9pm. This is the 4th time that I've been here and it's closed at different times in the middle of the day. Don't come here if it's not way past opening or 30 minutes before closing. They are never prepared for anything and take way too much time to do anything because they are so incompetent. An order to go when no one is there takes approximately 30 minutes. If you have the patience to wait for slow service the food is pretty good. The workers suck but the food is good. read more

My only complaint was that they charged us before they even served us the food. Their excuse for doing so was because they've been scammed before and that's why they charge for the food before they begin making it? 5-stars for authenticity, no question about it. 4.5-5-stars for taste and flavors, but so salty! Perhaps I'll give them five-stars in time. I have been curious about the restaurant for years and ordered regular items such as tacos (amazing tortillas made to order) and a burrito. I recall the spicy marinated carrots some entrées get and that spicy salsa roja. Today's visit was stimulated by a recent discussion I had with Jesse, the owner of Woodfire Cafe. He told me to Google the following word: Huitlacoche. Go on, look it up! The interior is cramped and while some effort was made since the last visit if the place filled up you'd be stuck. Luckily I hit at a good time late afternoon and quickly ordered. The menu is concise and illustrated with ingredients listed in Spanish and English. Immediately apparent is this isn't a typical Tex-Mex or Americanized establishment. While they have frijoles and arroz, most plates don't have those as sides. This became apparent afterwards when I left and didn't have that bloated heavy feeling beans and rice contribute to. Today was about breaking holding patterns and trying different things so I ordered the Pelangocha, which is a dish typical of the Districto Federale (FD) basin- or Mexico City to the uninformed. Being full of meat of all kinds it's no wonder it was so salty! Let's see... chorizo, asada, pastor, bacon, and onions and bell peppers. All contained between two large, grilled flour tortillas with queso Oaxaca. The onions and peppers were nearly caramelized and tasted fresh and light. I asked for the spicy salsa and away I went. Absolutely great until I felt dehydrated later. The strawberry agua fresca with lime slices hit the spot and wasn't too sweet. All-in-all, I'd like to try a few more unique items on the menu, including a quesadilla with that mushroomy-tasting corn must (say what? I've been coming here for years, I love the authentic Mexican taste and the freshly made tortillas. Lately, I've been ordering the fried quesadillas, they are to die for. The ladies working there always provide great service and make sure you get your order in a timely manner. Less stars in this update... My first review was 4 years ago. Since then I wish I could say the food was as good as it used to be. We would usually get tacos and I've noticed the meat and tortillas aren't as good. They seem more over cooked. Additionally, the last couple of times I came here, I've noticed they give a minimal amount of salsa. And I don't like how seems to be an issue when you ask for more. The most recent visit I ordered around 12 tacos and 2 sopes for the fam. I spent around $50+ When I ordered I asked for a lot of the green salsa because we LOVE it. When I got my food and went to the parking lot I checked everything. They gave me a bigger container of salsa that was less than halfway full. For 12 tacos and 2 sopes it wasn't enough. Thus I went back to ask for more salsa. The employee responded, "We gave you a big container." First of all, that's not good customer service. Already she's entered a rebuttal. I responded, "Yes it's not enough." So then I was told I would have to pay for more salsa. Hey, I was willing to do that so that everyone could enjoy their food at home. Needless to say after all that, they didn't have any green salsa at the time and I would have to wait for more. It was going to take too long. It really wasn't worth the hassle. For me to continue to support a business, the customer service also has to be great. I truly didn't like how it's an issue to give more salsa when you have customers paying a nice amount. Moreover, there's better ways to serve customers. The employee really just left a bad taste in my mouth. I'll start supporting other Mexican food restaurants in the area. read more
