My mom passed away in 2017, my close friend and landlord Jerald (the first person I met when I came to California in 1977) had a quadruple bypass surgery 11 days ago (he's healing well, for 84 years), and my good friend Erik passed away 4 days ago, I have known him since I came to California too. Don't worry, I am seeing a psychiatrist and psychotherapist, things have been that bad. And in comes Evelyn. She went above and beyond to help me out, she paid the electric bill (I have to call her on Jan. 2 to make sure about gas funding), and to top it all off, she brought me a cart full of groceries, all name brand and all stuff we use. She is truly an angel on this Earth. She deserves a much-needed raise. She didn't have to do the things she did. And she was so pleasant and upbeat, it completely changed my frame of mind. Case in point: I was helping a friend with her moving (a hellish experience to begin with) I have to pay a $65.00 "overnight parking" ticket. This, despite none of the neighbors parking their cars on the street getting ticketed, AND despite my friend who has lived there for years not knowing anything about any overnight parking regulations, AND despite she had roommates and NONE of them ever got ticketed. Adding inconvenience to injury, heightening my anger, and tainting what should have been an easy, restful, pet sit gig in Los Angeles, is the fact that on Saturday for 30 minutes (before I gave up) the Arcadia ticket pay-site froze "processing" my card information. I could not "refresh". I was warned, or it might charge me double. Which forced me to go through VM hell. I TRIED TO CALL THE NUMBER ON THE CITATION. JUST GOT VOICEMAIL. WORSE, I KEPT PUSHING THE BUTTON, IT TOLD ME TO PUSH FOR THE DEPARTMENT AND IT WOULDN'T TAKE IT. I HAD TO HANG UP AND CALL AGAIN. THIS TIME IT TOOK IT BUT INSTEAD OF GETTING SOMEONE I GOT MORE VM THAT TOLD ME IT WAS AFTER BUSINESS HOURS. IT IS NOON! MUST BE NICE TO HAVE SUCH A CUSHY JOB THAT YOU CAN BE CLOSED ON A SATURDAY WHILE THOUSANDS SWEAT OUT MENIAL JOBS 24-7, AUTHORITIES GET THE LUXURY TO CLOSE ON WEEKENDS. NOW I WILL HAVE TO WAIT TILL MONDAY AND THEY WILL SAY "OH, YOU ARE NOW LATE AND HAVE TO PAY A LATE PENALTY. SUCH A SCAM!!! AND THESE TICKET AGENCIES MIGHT EVEN BE A FRONT FOR THE MAFIA!!! (it's a thing, do the research) An hour wasted. Day has been ruined. I am warning all of my journalist, video production, acting and writing friends NEVER to do business with Arcadia. I give all of you the same warning. Do not shop there. Do not live there. Do not do business with them. They are actors of bad faith and every red flag imaginable is in plain view and proudly being flown. Today I got a call from City Hall FINALLY returning my call after the fact and the destruction of my Saturday. I knew the call would be completely unproductive. Instead of explaining why they give out overnight parking tickets in secluded cul de sacs that have zero warning signs. They explained it is a city ordinance and it is marked on a sign on the entrance and exits of the freeway. They expect you to know this and to seek out the sign in the jumble of signs in the 5 seconds you have entering or exiting a freeway. More to the point, the law obviously exists, as most things, because the wealthy are so worried about the homeless parking in their neighborhoods. If the city REALLY wanted people to know, they would issue warning tickets. The fact that they don't, means this is really a covert cash grab by the city as well as a homeless deterrent. Because logic only points in that direction. There is no other reason that this law exists except for fear and hatred of the homeless. Once again I urge you not to do any business with Arcadia.

I can understand the complaint about the incompetence of city employees; I've had mine with the Police Department & also with Whittier High School & WHUSD (side note w/both school & school district, I'm talking a few certain employees, the rest of employees were fine, it takes a few bad apples, as they say), that is much needed area of improvement, but I don't take it out on the entire city. And the city is most certainly not desolate! Try going to San Bernardino and you will change your tune. Yes, there has been ongoing rise of crime, tagging/graffiti, lots of outsiders from all other cities moving here- both good & unfortunately bad (West & So. Whittier and unfortunately pockets of Uptown as well) moving into the area, apparently it's appealing to them as well. There are times I go to Uptown for dinner, drinks or to chill, it seems like you have to be there in the day time till early evening before the mob of socialites & attitudes come out at night and saturate it. But again, it's not that bad, just know when to go, know where to go and know when to leave, if your the younger generation, then I guess you guys know how to handle it, focus is elsewhere anyways right? But what does the city have to do with it? If we can all look up above it and take it for what it is and make the best out of it, then it's all good. I probably won't buy a home out here, unless I won the Lottery and was in a position to pick and choose (I choose Whittier Hills, Friendly Hills & the best of East Whittier only), but mostly likely looking to get as far away from the city and live on an open field of homes with a view of the mountains in the quiet sleepy town of Yucaipa, what some will call boring, I call it peaceful. But when I get homesick, I know I can come back to good old Whittier. The point is, if your new to the area, have an open mind and give Whittier a chance.

As for the average citizen we have old folks from the old Nixon days and the new generation of people trying to live in a modest home and give their kids a good life! If I could suggest any change i'd say the city needs to do something about the homeless in uptown and the gang activity in the surrounding area! Also limit the number of apartment complexes and section 8 because we already have a large share of renters! This city has a lot to offer on the weekends if you check the city website. It's far from a boring sleepy town, It's a thriving town with wonderful people living in it!

The first band to perform is Cold Duck. This band performs old school, Latin and Jazz music. The West Covina City Hall Civic Center is the location of the event which takes place each Wednesday from 6-9 pm. The concert series runs from June 14-July 26 and offers free music, vendors including food, clothing, jewelry etc.. they also have free games and jumpers for adults and the kids. They added a beer garden for the first time. Security is provided by the West Covina Police Department and which their station is a mere feet from the site of the stage. This is definitely good times, good vibes, good people and it is all FREE!!

As part of the Beginning Line Dance Adult Class (SU26-4219), our class's official schedule is from 7:15 PM - 8:15 PM PDT. Last week on Tuesday, July 21, this employee in question, barged into the class slightly past 8:00 PM PDT and started yelling at us that class is over, with no respect or regard for the teacher either. He then started moving chairs every which way to begin stacking, except as a full class of 35 people, and on many occasions, over 35, we are already jam packed in there, so this male employee swinging chairs around carelessly in an attempt to rush us out of there while we are in the middle of class is extremely reckless and dangerous. Especially since this class has multiple students who are elderly. Is it a value of the Arcadia Recreation Team to have employees be rude to students who largely are from the young children and elderly age group? Is there a lack of training to this team, such that employees think it is okay to yell and disrupt a class that students have paid for and has not reached the designated ending time set by the city?  I feel in danger when I see this male barge in, as he clearly has no respect and is extremely hot headed. If he is in such a rush to end his shift, perhaps he should not be assigned to this evening time slot.  My family and I have been students in multiple classes since 2017, and never has there been an employee who treated a class with this level of disrespect. Multiple other students in this Tuesday class were unhappy with his behavior and called him out, only for him to continue shouting at us as he ignored us and stormed out of the classroom. If these are the values shown in experiences at Arcadia Recreation Center, I will have to end my time taking classes here this season, even though we have attended classes since 2017 and have taken Line Dance Class for the last 3 years. This is extremely disappointing service and disturbing behavior for an employee of the City of Arcadia to have.
