Man oh man, I've been DYING up in New Smyrna Beach after the loss of El Patron... which is why I was ECSTATIC to discover the El Molcajete is in the same restaurant family and has an almost identical menu, just a few miles down the road in Edgewater. Was nervous to try it since my expectations were high (I had big cravings for Mexican food, and there's nothing good near NSB....), but I'm happy to report that El Molcajete delivered! Bring on the JUMBO chia agave margaritas, quesadillas, queso blanco, tacos --and my personal favorite--the MAR Y TIERRA! Reasonably priced, beautifully satisfying. The food is deplorable the drinks don't even taste like they have anything in them when you order an alcohol drink and the service they make you feel like you're not even there. The first experience that I had here, I called for take out. I was on hold for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes and still on hold, I decided to try an experiment. I sent my friend down there to order. They ordered and returned (while I was still on hold) in 15 minutes. Total time on hold: 25 minutes! I practice restaurant forgiveness. So, I called them tonight again for takeout. I was put on hold again. The magic number was once again 10! I hung up. My time is valuable. Their food is ok. Not the best that I've had. I would not waste my time on them, since they do not value their customers time. read more

Wow! This place is fantastic! It's hidden in a strip mall next to Publix and doesn't look like much from the outside but it's very nice inside. Plenty of comfortable seating with your choice of a booth or high-top, along with a large full service bar. As soon as I took my seat at the bar I was greeted with a bowl of fresh, warm, tortilla chips and very tasty salsa. My margarita was perfect and the bartender was very accommodating to my customization requests. I had the mahi-mahi tacos and they were amazing! I am sure I will be visiting this place a few more times while I am in town. read more

I used to enjoy this restaurant but lately it's really gone down hill. I ordered Cancun enchiladas and there was only one shrimp in each one. I did not receive the food I was supposed to ( lettuce pico sour cream nothing ) service was slow and when I mentioned the issue I was just looked at confused I won't be back and with the large variety of options in the area you should probably consider other options as well .... nothing was offered to make my experience better in fact my bill was over 100 dollars and all disappointing ! My wife ordered fajitas trio and all was mixed cold and we received 3 tortillas and not given any extra when asked. Such a bad and frustrating experience read more

My husband and I had lunch here yesterday and the service was slow, there was only us and one other table in the restaurant at the time. I had the tacos and my husband ordered the burrito no rice extra cheese and once we received the food the burrito had rice and no cheese. I ordered the Super Chimichanga and got a soggy burrito and nothing but excuses from the server! i couldn't even send it back because the server never came back to the table after we got our food. I had cheese enchiladas with a cheese sauce, kinda bland, I really should have gotten the ground beef, that would have been better. My kid got a super burrito, with ground beef, he loved it, great flavor. Hubby had the Al Pastor, the meat tasted burnt. Good rice, ok beans. We got the skinny margarita, they generally taste light and fresh. This tasted like it was pre mix. They also didn't enforce masks, of course everyone who came in had them except the people who need then the most, baby boomers. All employees had a mask and distance seating. Wow, has this place started to take a turn for the worse. I saw it happening a few months back and thought they'd pull it together, boy was I wrong. There's one waitress in there who just seems miserable. I always love being greeted by "How Many" and nothing else. Completely understaffed. Food was still good, just not worth the hassle anymore. We have been going to this restaurant since it opened a couple of years ago. The food is excellent. No matter what we have ordered, our choices have always been delicious with perfect serving sizes. During COVID, their take out was excellent. They never forgot anything which happens frequently with takeout from other places. The service is excellent, even when they are busy. We never see them standing around doing nothing. The past two years we have celebrated our wedding anniversary there for the past two years. Mi Mexico in New Smyrna beach was the "go to" best Mexican restaurant in the area until El Molcajete came to Edgewater. If you like Mexican food, you will absolutely love El Molcajete. read more

I have been to this restaurant five times. The food is always delicious. I highly recommend the traditional guacamole, it is easily the best guac I have ever had. Food aside, the service always seems to be hit or miss. Two out of the five times I have been, I have received exceptional service. Two out of the remaining three times it wasn't the greatest, but I can't truly complain about it. This most recent time my wife and I were eventually ignored. Asked for a to-go box and was ignored or forgotten about. So I went to go and find one myself. Waited around for the waitress to bring our check, but eventually got tired of waiting and went up to the bar to pay and leave. I do not know that I would recommend this place as a sit down restaurant. However I can highly recommend the food. As soon as we were sat, they quickly brought us our drinks, following apps instantly, following our dinner almost immediately too! And the quality was AMAZING. Yes, we've sat at the bar before and not had anyone until we spoke up. No, I've never had crappy food. This is our go to for Mexican. Nine times out of ten- the food is spot on. Beer is always ice cold. Had margaritas once and they were very good (but I prefer my tequila top shelf and with out all the extras) It kills me these people that post a review after one visit- It must be tough being perfect at everything you do. If you want to review a place- especially a restaurant, try visiting a couple of times. Everyone has a bad night. I was sick all night and into the morning. Tried it again thinking I'd give it one more try. The woman who answered the phone couldn't understand my name, so I decided to spell it for her. She either could've hear me because it was too loud or she didn't understand basic letters of the alphabet. I gave up. Wow...this place is just down the street from my house and I had never tried it. I think they just opened not to long ago, I loved the food it was so good fresh I'm picky about my Mexican food cause some times it can be way to spicy and hot, but this was just right. It came with rice and refried beans it was so good I got the burrito it came with some kind of cheese sauce. It was so good, I got take out they where fast and my family loved it to. I bought 2 other meals everyone liked it. The price is a bit spendy but it was worth it. I will definitely go again.
