Hace unos meses visitamos Querétaro y nos quedamos con ganas de comer en el tradicional restaurante Chucho El Roto. El pasado fin de semana decidimos que no podíamos quedarnos con las ganas de comer en el tan celebrado lugar ya que sus reseñas en Google son impresionantes. Manejamos dos horas y media para que nuestras expectativas fueran fusiladas como Maximiliano en el cerro de las campanas. Lo bueno: El servicio que brindan los meseros es excepcional. La música es tenue y de buen gusto (en estos días si un restaurante no tiene reguetón, ya es considerado como gran conocedor musical). El sabor de los alimentos es definitivamente destacable. Lo malo: El precio y porciones son discordantes. En verdad se siente que uno va a la casa de Chucho El Roto ya que con esas porciones y ese precio es como si le robaran a los ricos para dárselo a los pobres! Excellent customer service! We arrived without a reservation and were seated within minutes. The complimentary pickled cauliflower, jicama, cactus, carrots and jalapeños were delicious. This is an iconic place in Querétaro with an ample variety of typical Mexican dishes from Bajio area. The prices seem to be a bit higher in comparison to the quality of the dishes. The service is fine but sometimes they are busier that you feel left out. It may depend on the time of the visit. It is a one stop place where you can order the typical staples dishes of the area in Al fresco ambiance setting in a corner of the traditional Plaza de Armas. BTW... it is a bit challenging to find parking nearby, but it is worth it and safe to walk the streets around it. I will give it another try again if I return back to Queretaro. read more

Ask for the Spanish menu since their top items aren't listed on the English one I didn't see much that interested me on the english menu, but the Spanish menu had some exciting options. We had the escamoles (ant larvae), and it was really good as a topping on our chips. The Spanish menu also featured the stone bowl menu pictured. It was perfectly cooked beef tips, topped with pineapples, and to be mixed with guacamole. Best meal I've ever had in Mexico and for a great price. read more

Their kitchen closes at midnight so at 10:30pm there were not a lot of open options for dining. For starters we had the Escamoles which are ant larvae. I have never had bad escamoles but the way they prepared these was especially delicious. Buttery, nutty, rich and delicate with so many flavor profiles with the fresh herbs, guacamole, so good. Second app was the mollejas. These were also very well prepared but did have some spice. Main entrees included Salmon with fresh Garambullo sauce which is a cactus fruit. Dish was very nicely done and the sauce was a treat as not something always available and has a very special sweet and sour taste and unexpected texture. The Chile en Nogada was very nicely done. The cream sauce was right on, Granada was crunchy and filling did not disappoint. They did not clear out all the seeds so some bites had some spice to it but was very good. Service was good overall. The place was packed so excellent service would not be easy to get. Overall we highly recommend El Chucho Roto. read more

We stopped in for lunch here before a busi was meeting in the next town. The scenery was beautiful, the service was too notch, and the food was delicious! My friend introduced me to escamoles. He informed me that this was ant eggs. To my surprise, this was delicious! I put this in my tortilla with guacamole, cilantro, and hot sauce. We also had a chorrizo and cheese dish that was outstanding. Of course the guacamole was fresh and VERY tasty!! I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the area. P.S. We stopped by for breakfast and split a plate. They served fresh and delicious pastries with coffee while they prepared our meal. The coffee was hands down the best I have ever had - it has cinnamon and brown sugar (I think). The server recommended the enchiladas so we got chicken enchiladas which came with potatoes and an egg on top, and beans on the side. Everything was amazing!! read more

I've been here multiple times and have enjoyed it each and every time. The wait staff usually has at least one and sometimes two waiters or waitresses that speak English, which is a big plus for me :). The food here is delicious. I've had many items from here. After 8 days in the jungle eating fruit and tacos, I came to the city. This was my first 'real breakfast'. I don't know what I ordered. Although it wasn't what I wanted, it was delicious. It was similar to the Mesa in tamalas, smothered in a tomato sauce. The best part was the most yummiest pastry I ever had, a pumpkin muffin dusted in sugar and sliced almonds. Our first meal in Querétaro was at Chucho El Roto. My friends had told me that it is a popular place for visitors coming to the area, and a place that I had to try. We started dinner with some Sopes de Chapulín and quesadillas. It was my daughters first time trying grasshoppers, and she loved the sopes topped with grasshoppers at this restaurant. While my daughter enjoyed every bite of the sopes, it was the quesadillas that I couldn't get enough of. For our main course, I had the chile en nogada (a traditional Mexican dish), and my daughter had the enchiladas de Querétaro. These enchiladas are not like anything we had ever had before, and the potato topping tantalized her taste buds. We ended dinner with some flan while listening to the live music from the center. I loved that this restaurant had a large outdoor patio and you can enjoy beautiful views of the city while dining. I highly recommend this restaurant when visiting Querétaro. read more

Good sampling of Mexican and American cuisines. Excellent service, excellent selection of wines beers and cocktails. I had cabrito (goat tacos) appetizer and a ribeye steak with French fries. The tacos were absolutely delicious and stuffed with a lot of meat.The steak was very fatty with connective tissue that is difficult to chew. It had an excellent flavor. Next time , I will stay away from the steak. This restaurant is very highly rated in Queretaro Mexico and I would reccomend it to all that may be in the area. read more

The best Chiles en Nogada I have eaten in Mexico. It was flavorful and delicious. The staff was amazing. All had masks and face shields. The restaurant was very festive with the holiday coming up. The staff all had marks in the Mexican flag. We had amazing Huitlacoche quesadillas. Absolutely delicious. My daughter has celiac and the staff was very helpful and kind at helping us pick out some food that would be gluten free. My only regret is that I didn't take any photos. There is outdoor seating and indoor seating. A live musician was performing. Absolutely fantastic experience. Delicious food and a very professional, well organized and kind staff. Lack of attention to detail, I am a vegetarian and asked for a veggie salad, they got me a spinach salad with Ham, they didn't even make an effort to correct it, they removed half ham and got the salad back. I understand not all places are vegetarian friendly but they didn't even care to apologise for the mistake. read more

It is located in a central square that is surrounded by ficus trees. Went here for lunch on a weekday. This is a traditional Mexican restaurant. As a drink I had a papaya juice made out of fresh fruit. As an starter we shared a "Molcajete del Chucho Roto" which has a variety of grilled meats and cheese. This was really tasty and came with tortillas. As a starter I ordered "Lengua a la veracruzana" which is beef tongue. It came with a rice and delicious tomato based sauce with green olives onions and spices. It's a good place to sit outside and look at the plaza. The area has many restaurants but the service here was efficient and polite. They could be better and having waiters explain what everything is but that's ok. I ordered the enchiladas queretanas and it was tasty but very filling. It came with little squares of potato, queso fresco and cream. I also had a chelada, they put ice in the glass which I found really weird and if you're worried about having ice locally you should ask for your drink with no ice. I tried their Ron pope cake and it was a nice smooth tres leches. A nice place to stop and eat in between touristing. Great food and ambience , most of the personal was great and cordial. I had incident in the bathroom that cause me a bleeding due to a wire out of place in the toilet. I reported that to a lady named Monica and she said , don't worry it's just a wire! I ask to speak to the manager and she had me waiting for more than 10 minutes . After that I went looking for her and she said they were to busy providing service to other customers. Finally I got to talk to the manager (Adrian ) and he was very nice and promised to fix the problem. It is very disappointing that Miss Monica being a lady was so rude and careless. Located in best area of town, Plaza de Armas, but several issues decreased our enjoyment: they have too many waiters, everyone takes your order but no one follows through so you don't receive your order. Coffee cold, Corundas dry, large servings and waiters always on you, they should be trained better.
