This is a fun place for both myself & my husband to go. My…read moregrandson really likes 'no school days' & coming here. His favorites are these meat pie, called Bulgogi Beef Triangle Kimbap's and then choosing a different type of drink. The cooked food is always a hit. Sushi is great. My daughter loves us bringing fresh kimchi home for her. All sorts of fruits and veggies. These are also a huge selection of household goods. Lots of drinks to try. Coffees, teas, bobas. I get cases of these coffees called 'Mr Brown' I drink a couple a day. They've never bothered us w/ my Service Dog. Staff usually wave at him & smile. Place is neat, well stocked One thing I'd recommend: DO NOT GO ON WEEKENDS, if you can avoid. This place is packed. No way to leisurely browse on a weekend.

They have a strict no photo/video recording in the store but best believe they have several cameras on you. The prices weren't too bad especially for imported goods. I didn't find much myself as we road-tripped here and I didn't want to struggle getting stuff back. They did have some of everything though. They charge for bags, so bring your own. My friend did say this is one was smaller than others she'd been too. She also said the others usually have a food court where you can get different foods. They did have some food situation going on in one of the corners but did not go out of my way to look.

At Colfax/Lansing (right between two memorable Mexican masterpieces - Real de Minas and Guadalajara…read moreBuffet) sits a similarly mighty maven of merchandise, from Myanmar in this case. Why don't we do a bit of culinary trekking at Asian & American Super Market? So, you're craving a touch of Burmese food, but don't have time to head all the way over to Taw Win or Urban Burma? Well, that's absolutely no problem at all - you see, A&ASM can help you out in several ways. Look - here is a handy kit containing the fermented tea leaves and other beany/seedy/etc, items needed for the palate-refreshing salad you probably know better as Laphet Thoke. Oh, you wanted something more substantial? Let's head to the back of the store. See? Here are canned versions of Ametha Si Byan (beef curry) and Ohno Kaukswe (coconut noodles) direct from the homeland for you to sample. (No, silly - the latter doesn't actually *contain* the noodles - that would just make a mushy mess). Wait, where did you go? Ah! I had a feeling you'd head to the front register, where, depending on the day, you can find such delights as Pe Palata (flatbread stuffed with vatana beans), Kyet Thun Gyaw (onion fritters) and Shwe Yin Aye (coconut milk/pandan jelly/sago/bread dessert). Are you full yet? [URP] But there's so much more to see up and down these aisles of course (I'm sure that probably goes without saying, but, well, here we are). Ooh, don't those durian segments look delicious? Stop that, you know you love them. Well, OK, what about a few Da Nyin Thee (jengkol beans) to put some shimmer on your stir-fried dishes? Mmmmmmm, I'll bet those rambutan are super juicy. And just look at these tempting jars of smoky Karen-style fish/chili sauces (Lar Say Paw and Saw Lay Pe, to be more specific). Or, try a link or two of plump beef sausage. (This, like many, many other items in the shop is Halal, as you may have guessed by the fact that the owners are members of the Rohingya community, who have traditionally lived near the border with Bangladesh and practiced Islam for centuries). All kinds of fresh produce can also be found here - for example, I've seen bamboo shoots, taro, and winged beans on various visits. But I don't want to give away all of A&ASM's secrets, so go see for yourself.

I walked into GW Supermarket looking for one thing -- mango puree -- and walked out having found…read moreeverything except that. That's the honest headline of this place: it's enormous, and it's stocked with sections for African, Indian, Jamaican, Japanese, Korean, and half a dozen other countries' pantries, and somehow the one basic thing I came in for wasn't on a shelf anywhere. I asked two different staff members if I was missing it, and both actually walked the aisle with me to check rather than just pointing and shrugging. No luck that day, but the effort mattered. Most of the packaging in here isn't in English, and if you're the type who needs to read every label before buying, budget extra time. But that's part of what makes it worth the trip -- this isn't a store dumbing itself down for anyone, it's a store built for the communities it actually serves, and the labels reflect that. If you get stuck, staff will come find the item with you instead of just gesturing toward an aisle number. Heads up walking past the seafood section: there's a real smell there, but it's the honest smell of fresh fish, not anything spoiled or off. If you've spent time in any proper seafood market, you'll recognize it immediately and it shouldn't put you off -- it's not a red flag, just a strong one. Prices are genuinely good for the volume and range of product you're getting, and the sheer scale of the place means you could shop here weekly and still find something new every time. It's a little chaotic in the best way -- more discovery than errand. Who it's for: anyone cooking outside the standard American grocery aisle, anyone who wants ingredients for a specific regional dish and is tired of substituting, and anyone who just likes wandering a store that clearly wasn't designed by committee. Go in with time to browse, not a tight list -- and maybe don't count on the mango puree. 4.5 stars, rounding to 4 -- knocked half a point for the miss on a pantry staple in a store this size, not for anything the staff did.

This store is always clean and well-organized, stocked with everything I have ever needed for cooking authentic Asian dishes - from sauces to preserved veggies to thin-cut sliced beef brisket to noodles of all materials (rice, wheat, buckwheat etc), to well-priced ground pork and very affordable spices of every kind. In addition, they stock a small variety of groceries and products from non-Asian cultures, as well as a nice selection of kitchenware and basic household goods. They also have a few bakery items: my favorite is the pork floss bun. I always check for it!
