Tamale is spirit open and full of shredded beef and ground beef. Sauce on the tamale is just red sauce. Carnita tacos were good but didn't have a great deal of flavor. I do love the chicken taco. That is the best thing I ordered. Rice and beans are average. Husband likes the chorizo and chicken dishes. Salsa is just average normal salsa. Had something new, chicken Diablo and it was spicey!!!!! it!

The very last time I ate there, I got super sick in the middle of the night. Vomiting and diarrhea at the same time! I had the La Villa special and the mushrooms looked off and the steak did too. Decorations from the ceiling. The restaurant inside was smaller than it appears outside. Busy for a weekday evening. My friends were already seated with chips and salsa. The margaritas were on the table for the evening special. Kind waiter. He was attentive and we placed our orders. At our table of 4 my friends all enjoyed their food. I ordered the Burrito Especial: Beef burrito with red sauce, topped with grated cheese, lettuce, tomatoes & sour cream. I think it just was not what I was craving. It felt small and underwhelming. It had good flavor, but just wasn't hitting the spot. The margarita was strong and chips were plentiful so I did not leave hungry. I know there is not a ton of options in Indianola. I would come back to try it again if we venture that way again.

Our food was amazing and the service was excellent! It was a beautifully mild September afternoon,…read moreand we decided to dine outside under a tent that was pitched in the restaurant's parking lot, near the entrance to the building. We were told to sit anywhere, and our server came by immediately to offer beverages. I ordered a michelada ($8) and it was the same awesome cerveza preparada that I'm used to enjoying back here at home at a few of my favorite Mexican restaurants. My friends ordered margaritas, and they looked similarly impressive, particularly a watermelon margarita. Its cloudy appearance looked to contain fresh watermelon puree instead of some weird watermelon liqueur, and it was adorned beautifully with fresh fruit. Dinner was outstanding. I enjoyed fish tacos ($11) for a lighter dinner, and they were served fresh, hot, and delicious. Besides sliced red cabbage, there was a condiment of pico de gallo that had some minced jalepeño, that was crunchy and super fresh, and topped with a creamy chipotle sauce. Absolutely perfect. Service was prompt and courteous, and while we were dining, staff came out to the tented patio to celebrate a few birthdays of other guests with joyful song, making the experience very festive. Prices were extremely reasonable, at least compared to where I'm from, the Twin Cities. The portion sizes were enormous. My friends had to request boxes to take home about 2/3 of their dinners. So normally an experience like this would warrant five stars! Well, our experience was slightly marred by waiting interminably for our server to collect our cards for payment. As it turns out, guests are expected to self-pay inside the restaurant at the counter. This requirement was not communicated to us, and I ended up walking in and out of the restaurant with a heap of paperwork to sort and pass out to everyone at my table to sign, then I had to return inside to give the pile of receipts and pens back to the cashier. This payment inconvenience is very inconsistent with the rest of the experience. It would never stop me from returning, obviously, because the food is so outstanding. But I may not remember to warn anyone of the unusual step of having to manually pay at a counter when the whole rest of the experience is full service.

A little long considering we were the only people in there at that point. But I hoped that meant it was being made from scratch. Food arrived, it looked delicious! Both of our first bites were heaven! Sope had a thick fluffy masa cake base with the most tender roasted slightly seasoned carnitas. Topped with a soft kind of white bean, a few sliced tomatoes, a few onions, shredded cabbage and salty cotija cheese. Very filling. Wife's Gorditas were three small masa cake shells stuffed with moist shredded dark meat chicken. And the same topping as mine. We both thoroughly enjoyed our food!!Would stop back again when I town.
