Service was great, our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, the food was horrendous, it was so bad all we could do was laugh. The "Chile rellano" was literally ground beef in a bowl of canned white nacho cheese with a piece of a poblano pepper added in. We actually had to ask what it was because it looked like soup with toasted cheese on top. The cheese was so thick it just stuck to your teeth and the roof of your mouth. The cheese enchiladas was the same canned cheese with an undercooked, thick, soggy wannabe tortilla. Looked like a plate of milk. I wouldn't even consider it Mexican food, its atrocious. You can get better quality from the frozen isle of your local grocery store. We wont be returning because of the poor quality food. read more

El Giro Mexican Restaurant should be named "El Restaurante De El Gringo" and you will notice when you come here why I would say that. I have never been in my life to a Mexican restaurant that every single person who is a patron and works there, including the servers, bartender and even cook look like me. Maybe the owners are prejudice, maybe not, but something was up with these people. The food was taco bell quality, nothing special. As someone who has been in the industry for a long time, my standards are probably higher than some, but the service here was beyond horrible. The server, who is probably the daughter of the owner seemed clueless. We kept having to ask for things, when we received them I could only scratch my head... We had about 10 people who were sharing guacamole and cheese dip. I asked for plates for us, she brought me one. The rest of us had to use napkins to eat off of. When my salad came, she never brought any silverware, so I had to walk up to the front booth near the entrance and pull a fork out of the silverware dish rack. The server never cleaned anything off the table, nor provided us with to-go containers. We literally had to get up and walk to the server station to get our own to-go boxes. Stopped in for a quick bite. Food was good, didn't have much but what I had was good and more meat than most. Service was ok. Friendly. Talked to who I think is the owner. If I could give it a zero, I would. For starters our server walked over and asked if we knew what we wanted to drink (we were given no menus at that point so we didn't know what they had for drinks) we order water and after looking at drink menus my fiancé orders a beer and I order a piña colada. My fiancé gets his beer, 20 minutes goes by and I still don't have my piña colada and our food order hasn't been taken. Our original server never came back and some other girl did and she got my piña colada for me. The guacamole had absolutely no flavor. I had to add mass amounts of salt and pepper and asked for limes (they gave me lemons instead of limes) to doctor up the guac. We get our food I got the carne asada, my fiancé gets a burrito, our food comes, 10 minutes later someone comes over and sees we haven't touched our food and we had to ask 2 different people for silverware . My carne asada was beef jerky on a plate. The burrito was okay, we got no refills on our waters, and no server ever returned until we got our to go boxes and paid to leave. 0/10 would recommend. This place gets high marks for great service, friendly cute waitresses and the towns local hangout. The parking lot is easy to park but the construction on the street makes it difficult to get into at times. The prices are well priced for a lot of food. The food okay and some of the items were mediocre. I love the chips but hated the salsa.. This is a great place to hangout and decent food. read more

Unless your looking for a bar and not a family restaurant I do not recommend this place. Food has gone severely down over the past few years and we have even found parking lot gravel in our beans. Unless your a male who tips good the waitresses hardly even notice you and it takes forever to get seated let alone if you order food. This was not a one time experience, all of the above has happened several times. Now if a beer or a drink is what your wanting this may be your place because they have that part spot on including the regulars who only come to drink and are treated like royalty compared to the other customers. It's not Mexican food. It's, hell I don't know what it is. Chips were ok salsa was suspect. I ordered a beef burrito and shrimp. The shrimp were ok they were a little salty but they did their best to cook frozen shrimp. The burrito wow, it looked and tasted like a microwave one from the gas station. They microwaved it so long the plate was on fire and the cheese turned to soup. The beers were cold and the staff was very friendly. I will go back but I'll make sure to order something that they have no choice but to cook and see how they do. read more

My son and I stopped in for a bite before traveling to Athens for my other son's high school basketball game last night. It was our third time eating there. Food was good, but will remember to get grilled chicken next time. The stewed or boiled chicken had no flavor. The margaritas, excellent! It was, however, disturbing to see an employee and an elderly take out customer arguing at the register. Apparently the customer thought she'd ordered a small taco salad, I believe. What she received and was charged for was a large taco salad. The employee went to battle about this! Telling her "don't speak to me that way", and "let me go find the person who took your order", as if to prove she was right! It was unbelievable, and totally inappropriate. Finally she offered to make this lady a small taco salad (pretty sure that's what it was) and she would pay for the small taco salad! Genious! Perhaps that should have been offered first before the huge scene? Whatever happened to the saying "the customer is always right?" Was it worth humiliating a customer to be "right?" It didn't make the employee look too great either! This lady was easily in her 70's, and in my opinion was treated poorly. The employee kept accusing her of yelling at her, but the only raised voice I heard was the employee's! And, she is an elderly woman who must have gotten confused on what she ordered. It happens. Finally this lady gets her smaller order, and this employee, of maybe another employee (she was trashing this lady to the other employees) kind of starts it up again! Once this customer leaves, and I'm sure will never return, the employee felt the need to "explain" what happened to select patrons throughout the restaurant! I could not believe it, and have NEVER witnessed such unprofessional behavior in a restaurant. This elderly lady was black, but surely in this day and age it was not because of her race? This has to be the most pitiful excuse for a Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten at! No flavor at all unless you add salsa which is a watery mess of tomato, some onion and lots of jalapeños. We started with a chili reano as a dip, we do this everywhere because it usually blows cheese dip away. Nope. Not here. Bell pepper doesn't count. I ordered the number 4. Tacos barely had cheese and little lettuce and the meat was flavorless. I added the watery salsa for some flavor but didn't help much. Next was my cheese enchilada. A corn tortilla floating in white American cheese and nothing else. It was disgusting. I added the cheese dip from the "enchilada " to my hard shell (stale) taco but still no help. I didn't even open the soft shell taco. I assume if I'm hungry enough later I will see how pitiful it too is. My dogs will like it. Maybe. Great service but terrible food. Decent food, sketchy location, but I order a lunch entree which was 7$ then was charged for spicy salsa so total bill ended up being around 15$. For that price you can get a very good meal downtown or go to the other Hispanic restaurants 2 minutes down the road eat a meal and have a beer and have three different salsa to choose from. read more

Only mexican restaurant in this town. The food and nachos are sub par but the mixed drinks are great. The service....well, an inanimate inflatable doll would provide better service. I came here once during the day and had to open the front door and fool the server into thinking a new customer came in to get him to come out of the kitchen and refill my drink. The food was good. It was fresh. The place was busy but seemed short staffed. There was a man walking around which I presume was the owner or "wanna" be owner. He guarded the register majority of the time worried more about collecting $$$ vs seeing if customers were happy. We had to grab our "own" Carry out boxes - heaven for bid... as no one asked if we'd like it to go container. I stacked our plates only after waiting 20-30 minutes trying to give them a hint it was time to remove them. As a paying customer, I should feel welcomed and not a bother. If you're out of food, drinks, it's proper etiquette to let your guests know. I realize it's "small" town however that's all the more reason to let guests feel welcome.... read more

The food is definitely great, not the best but good. The salsa is very very good and the cheese dip is actually melted which is good because I don't like cheese dip that is practically solid. I have ordered their burritos, and other entrees, which are all good. The beans are also delicious. But the down side to this restaurant is the service. They always forget you when you ask for things like another thing of salsa or chips. They mess up orders very frequently, and most of the waiters/waitresses aren't very good at their job. One time I was there with family. Whenever our food arrived they didn't bring out my mom's dish. Keep in mind this was a salad, very easy to make. Should've been the first thing to arrive. So we told the waiter about it and he said it would be out shortly. We waited for about 20 minutes and the salad still wasn't out yet. We asked the waiter, he apologized, and said again that it would be out shortly. So we waited and waited and the dish never came. Eventually my mom just gave up and we left. Another thing I have noticed about this place is how huge their drink sizes are. Order a small margarita, and they bring out this huuuuge mug that is filled to the top. I can't even imagine how big the large would be. Overall, living in a small town, it's the only mexican food we've got, so, I am 99.99% sure I will find myself sitting at a table there in the not so distant future. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!!! Please read my story from tonight, Sunday May 7th, 2017. My husband and I with a friend who is 20 came in and sat at the bar. I ordered a water, my husband a beer, and our friend ordered a water. The bartender was very nice. After receiving all of our drinks and we were about to order our food when a lady (not our bartender) came up to our friend who is 20 and asked if he was 21 VERY rudely. He jokingly said if she wanted him to be he could. At this point we had no clue why she was asking, we were having a great day. Then she rudely tells us he cannot sit at the bar and we need to move. As we were getting up to move I told her in the state of Georgia you can be under 21 to sit at a family restaurant. I have been a bartender and bar manager for 15 years. I know my stuff. She then back talked to me. She walked to the back and we heard her say "THAT BITCH HAD AN ATTITUDE WITH ME SO I HAD ONE BACK". How unprofessional is that?? A customer should never hear something like that! Never!! She apparently said she was an assistant manager, um, ok? Even more reason for her to have some class about the situation. She was very confrontational about the issue so much we decided to leave, all I kept saying was it was legal. She told me I should "google it". And just for her piece of mind I did, 100% legal. And she was so confrontational about our friend at the bar but they NEVER carded my husband to get the beer!!! We even heard her say from the back "we can't have 15 year olds sitting at the bar". I'm 36 and my husband is 34! And our friend is 20! When we left my husband never even took a sip of the beer and she yelled as we were walking out "so you're not paying for your beer!?" I offered to pay but the server motioned that it was ok they will take care of it. She should be the manager not the one who is! Unprofessional is an understatement of the situation today. After our last visit we will not return. The food is mediocre and service is sup-par. The staff is more focused on arguing about who does what and talking to service their customers. The last visit it took 45 minutes to get even part of our meal and then they forgot to bring my children their food. They still charged us for it though and the owner would not do anything about it.
