This use to be our "Go To" place for at least 2 times a week. But in the last year the quality has declined as the prices go up. I keep going back in hopes that it gets better but what did it for me is when I ordered a quesadilla with vegetables, all I got was a tortilla filled with rice and a few specks of beans, cheese, peas with carrots. I still enjoy the tacos here. More often then not, I pop by here quickly, solo, and am the only gringo in the place. If one of my properties needed a paint job, or hanging of dry wall, I tell you I could probably strike up some good labor rates. There is a constant barrage of contractors and subcontractors here. The crowd and decor (or lack of therefore) are working class. The Tacos, still at $1.19 are a relative bargain. In 2013 I tried the Taco Spot in Tucker on Hwy 29 with the .99 Tacos and I think Gallo Giro's are better. Chicken, Pastor, Steak, Brain, or I think Tongue are included in the price. I usually do two Steak and two pork. The flavors are perfect. The tortillas are fresh and come hot off the grill. I also like that they have the free marinated spicy vegetables, along with 3 salsas, as well as onions and cilantro. I was craving taco Tuesday and open my yelp app and this place was the 1st place I see, so it had to be fate. Now this place is inside a gas station but don't let that stop you. The have some great authentic mexican food. I got tacos, burrito, and ceviche. Quick tip the tacos are very small so get 3 or more is not unheard of. The burrito was a good size though. Anyway the food was amazing. The ceviche has some kick so if you don't like spicy pass on thos dish. This will probably be my go to taco stop going forward. Oh yeah they even have a drive thru. I love this place. It is inside the gas station and was kind of hard find from the main road. But that's when you know it's good. The tacos are amazing and flavorful. There are not too many meat options. They include barbacoa, cabeza, lengua, pastor, and asada. What they lack in options, they really compensate with flavor. And you know they have a sick salsa bar with pickled habaneros, salsas, limes, and spiced pickled jalapeños/carrots. This place is so cheap. The staff is friendly. We have been to this place for Sunday lunch. There were several folks there ahead of us. It seemed like all of them enjoyed the food:) I had Menudo which was hot (temperature) and really tasty. I love it... My husband ordered 1/2 pollo that comes with salad, and 2 beef tacos . They were great .We also ordered quesadilla and chicken nuggets for the kids . The portion was big and had left over to take home. The place was small and busy as it located in a gas station. I prefer take out next time. But overall We have great experience there . I was never a corn tortilla fan, until I found El Gallo Giro. I lived less than a mile away for about 5 years. I tried their tacos con (with) carne asada (steak) and pollo (chicken) and finally tasted a real taco (in an unbaked corn tortilla) . For a little over $1, you can get an authentic Mexican taco. You can get gas and the go inside for some delicious food. Awful. I got 3 tacos. One Asada...one Pastor...one Barbacoa...I couldn't tell the chicken and pork apart...both were dry and tasteless. Even after putting the "sauce" on them. I had tacos de asada (steak) and pastor (pork). They put meat in two small tortillas, and each taco comes with cilantro and raw onion. You can ask them not to put either in the tacos. The steak tastes very good. Pastor was spicy, which I didn't expect. So there was a bit of surprise there but it wasn't bad at all. My boy ordered burrito de asada. It comes with rice, beans, cheese, choice of meat, cilantro and onion. I asked them not to put any onion. It was pretty good size! My boy couldn't finish the whole burrito! For drink, I got mango juice and my boy got pineapple juice. Both taste very good. They have drive through window on the side of the gas station and sitting area inside of the gas station. I guess most people ordered to take out, but we opted to eat in. The dining area doesn't look anything like a nice restaurant but it was comfortable enough for us to stay and finish our meal. :) I'm glad they are open till midnight. My food was "Oh so good" that I made a mess of my face eating. The Asada is spiced perfect with good texture. I don't usually get chicken but I snagged a taste of my friends dish.. I was pleasantly surprised and I actually liked it better than the steak. I may get the chicken next time. I wasn't a fan of the barbecue, a little bland in comparison but it wasn't bad at all. THE FLAVORS OF MEXICO! This food reminds me of Mexico and not that Mexico with Americanized hotels and amenities but that Mexico that is appreciated by the locals. To really appreciate Mexico, you need to stay in one of the beach condos or in a local hotel where they speak very little English, you need to eat where the locals eat, shop where they shop and ride their bus. For everything that is unique and natural in Mexico, there is the shiny American counterpart that begs the question: Why are you here? When we read that this restaurant was located in a gas station, (Big EZ), we were more curious than concerned because in the past, we have discovered some of the best food in unexpected places. When you walk inside, just walk straight ahead and you will run into this little counter off to the left. There is seating off to the right, bar style and standard tables for two or four. We approached the counter and requested a written menu so that we could take our time and explore the options. I finally decided on the Mulitas, one pork and one chicken. They are served with mozzarella cheese, a slice of avocado, onions and cilantro. I only ordered these two items because authentic Mexican food can be very filling and satisfying. Also, I knew that my husband would order a combination platter, as (usual), and this would give me an opportunity to sample the refried beans and rice. His platter also came with four corn tortillas and a choice of two proteins, (chicken and spicy beef), lettuce and tomatoes. He eventually ordered four additional corn tortillas. The mulita was stuffed with meat and had a top and bottom shell. I chose to remove the top shell and ate the bottom portion separately. I spread beans on the top and ate it as a mini taco. The shells are obviously made by hand and grilled to the perfect texture with slightly crispy edges. Both proteins were seasoned and prepared to perfection which means no sauce or condiments were needed although they were available on a min-bar in the dining area. My husband's platter was crazy good with tender, juicy proteins and deliciously prepared beans and rice. There was nothing about this food that was not on point and memorable. It was definitely worth the drive from Alpharetta! The health score on the wall was a respectable 95. However, I need to know that all surfaces including the floors are clean beyond question. The napkin holder was filthy and the tables needed to be cleaned at a deeper level. Also, the floor could have used a good scrubbing as well. Yes, care of the kitchen is most important, but the dining area should never be neglected. Please step it up! This little place also has a drive-thru window which is either very sweet or very dangerous! This allows you to call in pick up your orders for your convenience. The one thing you never forget about Mexico is the food, which is second to none. It is good to know that the delicious flavors of Mexico are just minutes away! Some additional items on the menu are as follows: Carne Asada, Mojarra, Burritos, Taquitos, Pechuga a la Plancha, baked chicken, (El Giro), Quesadilla, Sopito, Tortas, Ceviche and Milanesa Plato.
