Pisco sour

We stopped by here for a quick bite. This is a very nice and clean restaurant located at the Mercado. We enjoyed a crab and cheese empanada and a shellfish empanada. Both were very tasty. We washed them down with a couple pisco sours. I saw the king crab in the refrigerated cases. Gotta come back to try that! So we did go back for dinner tonight. Same great friendly service but WOW what an incredible meal. Crab salad with lemon dressing followed by an absolutely fantastic Peruvian ceviche. To finish was the King Crab and they even separate the pieces and remove the shell. A hot cast iron bowl of butter and garlic await dipping. WOW it doesn't get much better than this. A delicious bottle of Savignon Blanc to wash it all down. Im in seafood heaven!

This was our last stop in Santiago and it did not disappoint. Sebastian greeted us and after a few moments of conversation we decided to eat there. We sat upstairs where we were able to see just about everything going on in the fish market. We started with water and seafood empanada which were pretty large and tasty. The three of us then ordered the seafood 'boat' which was plenty for us to share. The shrimp, oysters, muscles, and crab were all good. The ceviche wasn't my cup of tea. The fried items weren't seasoned and the bread wasn't crispy. We also ordered a bottle of white wine and then we each bought one to take home. The staff was friendly and the food was good.

Right outside the central market, good place for seafood! I visited Chile and came to the central market during lunch time. This waiter started advertising to us and their vast menu caught our eye. We were seated on the upper floor which wasn't too big, so a table of six was a little crowded. We were offered a small cup of this alcoholic drink, which tasted pretty good. Personally, I ordered this.. octopus rice dish and my boyfriend ordered the swordfish with a side of rice. I loved my dish, the flavor was wonderful, the serving was generous, and the seafood was so amazingly fresh. My boyfriend loved his swordfish as well, saying it was fresh and tasted amazing. Among our party of six, we agreed that the seafood was fresh and the food was yummy (: I also want to mention, the free bread and salsa given was really good, especially the salsa. We even asked for more salsa to add a bit of spice in our own dishes. The service was pretty good. The bathrooms were clean and well stocked (better than a lot of other restaurants in Chile). I thought the price was fair. I recommend this place if you're near the central market and you're looking for some good seafood!

The fish market was the last place to stop to end our trip to Santiago. We were greeted by Sebastian who happened to be a native of New York. His hospitality is what actually made us stay at this restaurant. We ordered a seafood platter which was ALOT of food in my opinion, but it was good. We had more wine and even ended up taking a few bottles home.

First experience with this restaurant was awful. The place was really crowded and the waiters kept forgetting all the orders from the surrounding tables. With ours, it took half an hour for them to serve one undercooked fish and another salmon filled with spines. Had to recall the first dish which was simply reheated and returned. Price is above average, really bad value. Won't return and definitely do not recommend.

This place is located right outside mercado central. This restaurant specializes in seafood dishes. My family decided to stop by this place for lunch at around 2pm. The place has people but it was not very full so we were seated right away. Before we even were able to place an order, the waiter comes to our table and pours us each complimentary sparkling wine. I expected the wine to be cheap but it was surprisingly quite delightful. I ordered the mango juice to drink, it was quite delicious. To eat, I ordered the traditional style swordfish with a side of rice. The swordfish was absolutely amazing, the filet was thick, well seasoned and well cooked. The swordfish was priced at around $15 USD, and let me say that it was definitely worth the money. Most of the rest of my family ordered seafood from this place and they were not dissappointed. My family left this restaurant very satisfied. In conclusion, if you are outside mercado central and can not make your mind up about where to eat, check out El Galeon. The seafood tastes amazingly well seasoned and fresh. The servers are friendly and patient. Definitely one of the better places that we ate at during vacation.

The king crab was good but wasn't mind blowing. It was nice that they prepare it by cutting it up for you. The ceviche was not good - we got the three different ceviche and it tasted as if it has been in the lemon for too long. Not only that, it was way over priced.

Meat empanadas

We stopped by to grab a quick bite to eat. All day I had really wanted a vegetable empanada but they didn't have any so I opted for their meat empanada. I was disappointed because it had purple olives and hard boiled egg on it. I'm not fond of olives and I have to be in the mood for eggs. The empanada was fried and I rather have it baked. My daughter ordered ceviche and it was ok, the citrus flavor could have been toned down. My daughter found a hair in her meal and the waiter gave he another ceviche to go. The two young waiters we had we very nice.

Look somewhere else. They have a staff outside to pressure you to come in. The food was BAD. Salmon was dry, fries were uncooked and cold.

Food was way too overpriced and not worth it. Better to look for holes in the wall with real food, not this tourist trap

The meal started well with friendly service and the Salmon tartare cones. They were delicious! The tables on the patio are wonderful. We ordered the salmon and the Sea Bass. I was particularly looking forward to having Chilean Sea Bass while in Chile. Ironically the salmon was the hit and the Sea Bass was dry. Also, after we chose to order just a glass of wine each instead of a bottle, our waiter abandoned us. He stopped checking on us and we had to ask for the check (albeit typical in Chile) after quite a long wait. Please note this isn't a bad restaurant, it's just not consistently great for a 5 star hotel. There are many options for good dining in Santiago, this one is average for fine dining.

Incredible experience!…read more We were hoping for the opportunity to try a good Chilean Sea Bass, but due to the season found ourselves indulging in the juices of the Patagonian lamb perfectly prepared with putee eggplant and a Carmanere wine glaze. Before we can even decide on an appetizer, we were greeted with freshly warm biscuits that were stuffed with caramelized onions and a cone of tuna Crudo (on the house!). Pro Tip: Request a taste of several wines, including the regional Carmanere (originating from France, but rediscovered in Chile). Camilo provided us with exceptional service and even surprised us with a parting gift! It was a pleasure getting to know him and hope to cross paths with him in the future.

A Must-Visit in Santiago: Unmatched Congrio and Exceptional Dining Experience…read moreIf you're visiting Santiago, Chile, there's one place you simply can't miss. For anyone who appreciates top-tier seafood, this restaurant serves what I consider to be the best fried Congrio in the world. The fish is expertly prepared, with a perfectly crispy exterior and tender, flavorful flesh that highlights the quality of the ingredients. Beyond the Congrio, the entire menu is outstanding, offering a variety of dishes that are consistently fresh and skillfully crafted. The service is impeccable--attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly, making you feel right at home from the moment you step inside. The ambiance also plays a big part in the experience, with a beautifully designed space that balances elegance and comfort. Whether you're here for a casual meal or a special occasion, this place truly impresses on all fronts. For a memorable culinary experience in Santiago, this restaurant is a must-visit.

If you want an authentic, no-frills, family-run dining experience in Santiago's Central Market,…read moreMares de Chile is a gem. Yes, it smells like fish the moment you walk in, because it's surrounded by the day's fresh catch, but that's part of the charm I suppose. I mean it's literally next to the stalls selling fresh seafood. We ended up having one of the best, and cheapest meals of our entire trip here. The seafood was exceptional: the salmon, octopus, and calamari Fritos were incredibly fresh and perfectly cooked, each dish simple and full of flavor. The razor clams were fine, I wouldn't get this one again. Before our plates even arrived, they welcomed us with a free consommé, a warm, comforting touch that set the tone for the meal. What really stood out, though, was the service, they were humble, genuine, and full of warmth. The family running the place treats you with a kind of quiet hospitality that makes you feel like you're being invited into their home rather than just their restaurant. Mares de Chile isn't fancy, but it's honest, hearty, and unforgettable. The whole meal with a half bottle carmenere and beer cost us $40. This would have been a $250 meal in New York. For anyone looking for real Chilean seafood and heartfelt service without tourist-trap prices, this spot is an absolute must.
