If a restaurant, a mercadito, a carniceria, or a food truck offers street style tacos in the Triad, Yelper Michael P will find them, try them, and review them, and all I have to do is follow along behind him - a bit lazy perhaps, but kinda cool, cause like Michael, I do like tacos and such! This truck is his latest find, apparently now firmly ensconced in a parking lot in the front of a mobile phone store, just down E Bessemer Avenue from another great little taco source, Taqueria Latinos. Unfortunately, this is a butt ugly stretch of Bessemer Avenue, similar to if not worse than, stretches of recently re-named Gate City Blvd, and apparently still in the political and financial blind spots of the governmental PTB - but perhaps bike lanes are just around the corner! The entire operation is typical as to menu, pricing, and service, resulting in some pretty darn good tacos - throw in a flavorful Burrito with Carne Azada, some very different, very tasty Rice & Beans, all "artfully" done. and you have yourself a really nice lunch of authentic street food. The tacos I tried were the al pastor, carne azada, and chorizo, all nicely decorated & flavored with chopped, raw white onion & cilantro, and came with grilled onions, a giant, grilled jalapeno pepper, and a red, house hot sauce with some noticeable heat. Once the onions, sliced jalapeno, and hot sauce were added, this became an excellent taco - and all for $1.25 each! I hope on my next visit to get the verde sauce, as well. The burrito is quite nice once you're well into it, the outer edges are rather dry tortilla. Inside is a nice assortment of thinly sliced beef, tomatoes, and lettuce - throw in some of the hot sauce, and you are good to go. The rice is a very white version with peas, carrot, and corn, & when well salted, quite tasty. The beans are basically pintos, in a rather soupy liquid, also tasty. I recommend this taco truck for your consideration!

This taco wagon sets up shop in the parking lot of a closed down tire shop on Bessemer Ave. I spotted it Saturday and wheeled in to check it out and had some pretty awesome tacos. They do the street style tacos, theirs are 2 small corn tortillas per taco with your meat option topped with onions and cilantro. They also do gorditas, tortas, sopes, burritos and a few other items. They had a couple of folding tables with chairs set up if you want to have sit down and eat. I tried chicken and al pastor tacos and they were great. The chicken is cooked with spices and peppers & onions like a chicken tinga, both were very good. Tacos are $1.25 each.

I caught up with this truck when they were at Potent Potables in Jamestown. I saw others eating the food, and it looked and smelled great. So before leaving, I decided to place an order for the boneless wings with a honey bbq sauce. It also came with fries, and he offered me a homemade hot ranch sauce, that was fantastic. The food took about 15 minutes, and I was on my way, with a container busting at the seams. They did not skimp, the the 10 pieces of boneless chicken were very large. Between the chicken and the fries, my wife and I were both able to get a dinner from this order. Based on that, I'll say the pricing was very fair compared to the portions! Great truck, and can't wait to try some of their other flavors next time I see them!

I've been a fan of this food truck for years, and yet a proper review has somehow eluded me until…read morenow. The owners are kindly California transplants, hence the truck's name, and the food is unlike much of what you can get around here. While the menu features flatbreads and quesadillas/burritos/tacos, you can also find fried artichoke hearts and cucumber borscht. The artichoke hearts are reliably tasty and make for a healthier and tangier alternative to many other fried apps. The Bussin (loaded spicy shrimp tacos) is a recurring favorite as well. During a recent visit, however, my wife and I decided to change things up a bit and went with a steak quesadilla and a steak and cheese wrap, respectively. Both boasted tender asada. While the former came with a delicious homemade salsa, the latter made for a refreshingly crisp bite thanks to the purple cabbage and avocado. Were it merely a taco truck, West Coast Wanderer would face stiff competition around these parts. However, the combination of unique offerings, fast and friendly service, and consistently good execution allows it to retain a loyal following.

The owner and staff are kind and friendly. Placed my order, paid and got a buzzer, buzzer went off, got my food and a thank you at the window - easy enough. Soft tacos with shredded pork, three nice sized flour tacos with very tender pork, purple cabbage, avocado, cheddar, cilantro and sour cream with red salsa and lime on the side. Great flavor and very good ingredients, makes for excellent tacos. Sat at the nearby walking distance park and enjoyed my tacos with a view. 4.5 Stars rounded up for the kind owner and staff 01147

We often can split a meal and add some quac or queso and be very content. The sauces are unique and very flavorable. The best dish,by far is the Mezcali special. We settled in on the small outdoor patio on a very fine spring evening for a meal that hit the spot each point along the line. Well... Maybe except for their chairs. These chairs were not the kind you would usually sit outside to eat in, more built for reclining with a drink in hand. It was not comfortable to sit forward and eat my meal. But man, was that meal ever delicious. Chips came out with three types of salsa, and we ordered the guacamole provincial to go with them as well. The chips on their own were decent, but each salsa had a unique flavor and amount of heat that kept things interesting. The guacamole was chunky and full of flavor, with a good enough portion for the four of us. When the meal came, it was clear I had won dinner. I got the "Mezcali's Best" which honestly, I think it was their best effort. Grilled steak, chicken, shrimp, onions, peppers, and zucchini in a chipotle queso sauce. Man. THAT SAUCE. That sauce just simply made the whole thing incredible. To the point when I cleared my plate, my wife had me scrape the sauce onto what was left of hers. In addition, the refried beans had an excellent flavor, I am not usually big on the beans... but this one had me wanting more. Chips used to scoop up some beans, rice, and sauce... were so so good. I would definitely come back here, probably sit inside, and order the Mezcali's best (or anything I can get that chipotle queso sauce on) again.
