Hidden gem! I have been coming to El Chymal for over 10 -15years. The asada is tasty and my favorite is their chicken. Both are perfectly seasoned! I get their ceviche on lazy days- I love it! Love that it's a tiny store but has everything you need. Meats, soft drinks, milk, eggs, produce, tortillas, spices, canned goods, random mexican items, chips, fresh salsa, guac, cheese--The prices are fair and it's family owned. I prefer coming here than those trendy over priced carnicerias. Authentic carniceria! This place is legit. read more

I've been coming here a lot this summer at the request of my wife. $14.99 /lbs for ranchera preparada As of this review. Their quality has gotten better. Tender and so juicy. It went up about a buck since this spring , but it's consistent meat. The occasional fat goes to my dog anyway so I'm not as bothered by it. read more

I found this place because of my parents. They bought some red chili from here and I was hooked. It is spicy but just so good you cannot stop eating it. We've tried the ceviche and agua chiles and everything was on point so flavorful. The tostadas in the blue bag are so addicting I can eat them by themselves they are that good. El Chymal might just be the most ethical, clean and best run butcher shop I've ever seen in all my sixty-four years. Don't be fooled by the fixtures that seem to date back to the Carter administration, everything is spotless and immaculate, and I suspect that they put most of their money into maintaining the quality of the meat instead of the flashiness of their countertop displays. These guys take pride in everything that they do. And it doesn't matter if you're hispanic or if you're sticking out as a Yanqui like a sore thumb, like my wheelchair user Navy vet wife and I who barely speak a word of Spanish, because they will make you feel welcome anyway. It's all about the quality and when you taste their meats, you will understand. Don't get sick off supermarket meat, get your meat at El Chymal instead. The prices can't be beat either, you will save money...but even if you didn't, it would still be worth the trip, because once you've paid attention to what goes on in the big corporate meatpacking operations, you will understand why small local butcher shops are more important now than ever. Just make sure that YOUR small local butcher shop is El Chymal. Accept no substitutes! PS: Did I mention the guacamole and the pico de gallo? Holy smokes...it's "DA KIND!" read more

Location- it is located on the border of Downey/Santa Fe Springs/ Norwalk on Studebaker just before Florence in a small run down looking strip mall with a gas station and a liquor store anchoring each side; this is a small place that would be easy to miss unless you were looking for it; there isn't a lot of parking but we have never had a problem finding a spot; the store is small and unimpressive looking but items are organized and it is clean Staff- all the staff here are helpful, friendly, and bilingual Food- my wife has two siblings who get the meat whenever they are making carne en su jugo and are always happy with the quality; I have purchased carne asada and chicken and always been happy with the product; we also buy great tortilla chips and they have salsas, guacamole, and jaiva prepared for pre-meal snacking while the meat is grilling *if you live in the vicinity this place is a great option for your grilling needs and prices are good too read more

We found this carnicería on Yelp and it's close enough to us that we decided to go. We ordered some marinated chicken, Agujas (beef short ribs), some Ranchera Preparada (marinated) and some shrimp ceviche. The agujas, and chicken were outstanding. The shrimp ceviche was amazing. The Ranchera was ok. About on par with most other places. The gentleman working there were very friendly and patient as we decided what to try. When we go back (which we will) I want to try the chorizo. Good find read more
