Stopped here before getting to the hotel next door to pick up chips and salsa and some margaritas. The salsa is not tasty at all and the drinks were the nastiest I have ever had....almost taste like you were drinking cleaning products. Just horrible. So usually when I come into town I'm always very pleased with El Charro. That's why I'm giving this 3 stars, because my usual service is pretty solid. Unfortunately, last time I visited I ordered steak fajitas and ended up with a plate of barely any steak and a pile of onions & peppers. It took us around 30 minutes to even be able to order our queso and food. Was really disappointed with this trip, but usually I have a reasonable experience. read more

Driving through and decided to stop to eat Mexican food. The services was good and ambience was decent. I talked to the waiter and she was telling how they were from Mexico, so I'm thinking, the food is going to be bomb. Unfortunately , the food didn't taste good at all. Not even close to authentic Mexican food. I'm originally from Southern California, my dad comes from a Mexican family, so i know good Mexican food. The tacos weren't even tortillas- they were hard shell tacos with some weird meat inside. The tostada was layered in heavy beans, and cream and become super soggy. The enchilada was made with some weird cheese. This place has potential of becoming a good restaurant if they had a better chef. My verdict- should had fasted. read more

This can only be called Mexican food if one has never eaten ACTUAL Mexican food. I normally eat whatever meal I get at a restaurant, regardless of whether it is good or middling. On my one visit here, I ate the bare minimum number of bites to no longer be starving, and left the rest on my plate. Then I left and ordered a pizza. 'Nuff said. read more

Choosing to dine at a Mexican restaurant In Louisiana was quite a gamble, we Texans thought. But since it was a Monday - when everything else was closed - we decided to risk it. So glad we did!! Hubby and I both ordered Shrimp Fajita Nachos and were wonderfully surprised. Plates piled high with grilled shrimp atop onions, bell peppers and chips arrived sizzling hot. The melted white cheese dripping over this yummy concoction was amazing. It was muy delicioso y sabroso. My only regret was that I could not eat all of it; one order of Shrimp Fajita Nachos was easily enough to feed two hungry gringos. This place is usually crowded. It is probably the only Mexican restaurant in the area. The food is only fair, the portions are small and the taste only average. I guess the locals don't have much to compare with. Most Mexican restaurant's dishes come with an abundance of refried beans, rice and accessories. This place only minimal. The salsa again only fair. The wait long, and the service longer. I ordered a chile rellano and the portion was very small. The cheese minimal and the overall experience was not great. I love to go to this establishment, the portions are more than enough, it has prompt service, the staff is friendly, the atmosphere is easy-going, & the prices are very affordable. The food is a bit bland, but being a Cajun that is probably just my point of view, & it is easily remedied with the nice selection of spices they keep at the table. Just left the place a about a hour ago tried it out due to what was said about it. When i made it here it was not to many customers besides the party i was with. The waitress was a bit slow i assume because it was near closing. So we ordered our food it came back pretty quick but which i enjoyed. The only thing that was wrong was the food to me i have had way better mexican food then this place. I ordered a enchilada tamale beans and rice. It was a bit salty and tasteless besides the salt. Usually the chips are hot with the salsa but these were cold and the salsa wasn't even spicy. I'll just say may be the mix up with the food was because they were ready to get off. If I see a better update on the food I might reconsider. read more

Fun atmosphere. I didn't care for my food. The soft tacos had hardly any lettuce and no tomatoes it was just meet and cheese. The fried ice cream was freezer a burnt tasting scoop of ice cream in a flat tostada shell. They did not fry the ice cream just stuck it in a premade fried thing and what little ice cream there was tasted yucky. It was mostly whip cream and almost no ice cream. I love el Charro! As of recently I just started going here and have received excellent service from Nikki, Mike, Kelly, and Evan! They have helped me to enjoy my experience at el Charro. I have gotten something different from here every time I go and have no complaints with the food. To the guy below my, this Mexican food never claimed to be "Authentic" you get what you pay for. To readers, I believe sitting on the patio is fun and blissful experience. I was also happy to see that they had Pacifico on tap :) Overall, good food, good people, nice atmosphere. read more
