Tried a bunch of taco spots in town trying to find a fix for missing Southern California Mexican food. I don't want to oversell it but these are legit the best street style tacos I've found anywhere in town. Love the tacos al pastor. Quesaberria is excellent, so are the tostadas and asada fries and the torta too. And the best fries in town from the burger truck which has great burgers and an awesome Cubano. El Chapin's burger tastes just like a Five Guys burger with an even better patty. The burger itself is a bit of a mixed bag. I found the patty to be juicy and the burger sauce adds a nice creamy tang. The burger was a bit on the wet side, some from the grease and some from the toppings. The bun absorbs some of that and makes it a bit soggy. There are two big slices of cheese on the double cheeseburger and it's a bit too much on the cheese to patty ratio. Very similar to a five guys burger in terms of cheese and bun. The fries are a fresh cut that comes with a side of burger sauce. The fries, being fresh cut, aren't super crisp and are greasy. The side of the burger sauce is a great addition that makes these subpar fries good enough to eat. Okay burger and would be interested in trying the tacos. read more

Can confirm. These are THE BEST tacos in Colorado as well as any we've ever had. The flavors are explosive and the meat is so tender, charred, and delicious. Pastor and asada were our choices. 10/10. I still adore their Al pastor tacos; highly recommended! They're not only cheaper than Chipotle but also authentically delicious Mexican cuisine--not Americanized. Finally, the waiting time is typically just 15 minutes, and everything is served fresh--no frozen food! Plus, they've added outdoor seating, which is a fantastic enhancement. We came here for lunch after leaving the zoo. It was nice that they had shaded outdoor seating for us to enjoy our food. I got 3 street style tacos all different meats with a pineapple drink. The food didn't take long to get. I think the only true thing missing from all 3 of my tacos was some spice. I guess I could've ordered jalapeños with it, but my mom had 2 sauces that came with her taco plate so I made it work. It was good for a Saturday lunch. read more

I am on the hunt for the best tamales in town. After such a brilliant review from Yelp I decided to give El Chapin a try. Although $25 for 6 tamales seemed expensive I still wanted to try them. One of the better Mexican food trucks in the Springs. I had the tacos Chavinnes ( not sure of spelling) as I had never tried them. They were kind of like flautas. Deep fat fried chicken tacos served with cabbage, salsa and fresh tomatoes. All very good. Next time I will try the regular ones. They have a covered seating area which is nice in warmer weather. If you weren't looking for this place, you might miss it nestled beside the meat shop off Fillmore. The street tacos are authentic and delicious. You have to try the carnitas! They even do a taco Tuesday special where you get three tacos at a discounted price. The horchata is sweet and milky and comes in a huge container. Yes... we had to call to find this food truck outside the Callicrate Beef & Deli... but it was worth every bit of effort! Husband had to have a breakfast burrito on our way through town. He loved it -- said the flavor, the seasoning of the beef & eggs fries & potato, down to the tortilla. Wasn't dry & didn't fall apart. Good value. I had the carne asada fries were all that as well. Seasoned just right, yummy pico de gallo. It's quite a ways from our home base, but I see this is a future destination food truck!!! read more

I was so incredibly excited to try this place based on their style of the street taco, considering I miss my California mexican food so much! The pictures of the tacos had my mouth watering and so I begged my boyfriend to take us to go try them out. I am sad to say it was quite the let down. Perhaps it was because it was in between meal times, as we arrived around 4pm. We ordered six tacos to go. They looked delicious and most certainly smelled delicious. We almost couldn't wait to get home to try them! Right off the bat, we were dissatisfied with the lack of limes and salsa served with the tacos. Two tiny wedges of limes are certainly not enough for six tacos. The lack of a good amount of salsa made the already dry meat seem even more dry. The tortillas were something out of a bag. I know, I know, it's hard to not judge a place on the fact that they don't make their own homemade tortillas but at least pick a good product if choosing to source them from somewhere else. The meat choices were disappointing, like I said. Here they are from best to worst: barbacoa, carnitas, pastor and asada. Everything was dry and lacking flavor, ESPECIALLY the asada. I am sad to say that we are still on the hunt for great tacos in the springs! read more

This place is great. Passed it several times, always meaning to stop by and try it. Finally did and I'm addicted. After 15+ years here in the springs I found the best taco place here. No kidding. I typically avoid most places after years of trying to find a decent one. Only place I'm comfortable getting Mexican is California. The al Pastor is my favorite, but they are all great. The Asada is fantastic, as are the carnitas. The quality is excellent, and the meat comes from Callicrate, which makes sense on why their food is so good. This is NOT the typical brown-stuff-on-plate we have here in town. And the flavors are just so good. I try to not come here so much, but I can't help myself. ;-) Please try it out. It's hidden behind Ranch Foods on Fillmore. You might curse me because you'll get addicted. But, it's worth it! read more

Yasssss! I stopped at Ranch Food Direct and to my surprise, I found this taco truck in the parking lot. I wasn't hungry, but when faced with tacos, I can always find an appetite. I had the al pastor taco plate that came with a grilled jalapeno, rice, beans, and two tacos. They grill the onions! I loved it! It was delicious! My first impression came today. I thought it was "A-OK", as the 3 star rating would denote. I'll have to give it another whirl to see if my rating stands. I ended up here after my favorite Mexican food truck didn't show up. I'd heard good things about El Chapin. I ordered a carne asada "Super Burrito". I feel like carne asada is a good test of a restaurant. The tortilla wasn't completely cooked. The rice wasn't fully cooked and had chewy/tough bits. The pico was at one end of the burrito instead of throughout. The carne asada taste was ok, but soupy almost like a stew. By the time I got to the bottom of the burrito it was a sloppy mess. Maybe their carne asada isn't where it's at. I'd like to try one of each type of street taco. Service was friendly and the prices were A-OK as well. read more

This a food truck--actually a trailer that never moves. It has been a feature behind Callicrate Beef for years. The food is great and authentic, the soda is Mexican with real sugar, primarily Coca-Cola products in heavy glass bottles that are refillable but not here, so they have to be recycled. Negatives, you will be here awhile to wait your turn to place order and then will wait for a lot longer to get your food. There are not enough seating/eating areas under shade, could be improved by revamping arrangement of booths and increasing size of area under cover. Tabletops do not get wiped down often, might only happen once a day for all I know. And yet I go back because the food is so good. read more

We've driven by this place a few times and finally stopped. You will NOT be disappointed! Hubby and I are supporting small businesses, these days. Friendly staff, yummy food and reasonably priced. $1.99 for a street taco, cheapest we have found. You get to choose your meat. Many other items to order as well. Can't wait to go back. Staff is wearing masks and gloves. Hand sanitizer is available. Kudos to the patrons, everyone was at least 6ft apart. My only negative remark would be way to many onions, just scraped some off. read more
