We encountered El Cepo while doing a self-tour of the coffee growing area of PR in October 2023. We loved the food, libations, ambience, cool open air floor plan, and mountain views from the table. So on my next trip to the island this past weekend, we made the trek again from San Juan. Solid consistent encore! We were fortunate enough to be tended again by the same server- Auda. She seals the deal and review for the restaurant with her excellent service. Don't miss the Bailey's piña colada and smoked Old Fashioned (ask for it with aged rum). For food- buñuelos de calabaza, croquetas de manposteao, paella criolla, chuletón de cordero, are a must. Stop pre or post by Café Lareño to stock up on great true PR grown and roasted coffee, and have a confection at their shop. Hasta la próxima!

First timers here and is not going to be the last! Awesome experience in overall!! Starting with the service...Absolutely Great!! The waitresses were very courteous, kind, and knowledgeable about the menu...All their recommendations were a true hit!! Drinks and appetizers were really good...The bartender did an awesome job with the Piña Coladas and we tried a unique Piña Colada made with Baileys...It was a little sweet for my taste, but was delicious anyway. I also got a Moscow Mule and it has been one of the best I've ever tried. In regards to the appetizers, we got Codfish Fritters ('Boñuelos de Bacalao') with mango jam that were heavenly delicious. Equally delicious were the mini 'alcapurrias' made with green banana dough and ground meat (really yummy!!!). Now, moving to the main entrées, I got the chicken breast ('Pollo Piornal') accompanied with mashed local roots. The chicken breast was very tender and flavorful and the combination with the mashed roots was a real match. My wife got the pork shank cut ('Ossobuco de Cerdo') accompanied with 'mofongo' (mashed plantains). The pork was cooked to perfection, also very tender and flavorful. The 'mofongo' was really delicious, with the perfect texture and seasoning balance. To finish our dinner, we got a vanilla crème brûlée that was absolutely delicious...It was creamy and it really tasted to vanilla; the caramel coat was perfectly made and tasted really good; it was a true balance of flavors to the palate!!! Ah, and everything, from the appetizers to the dessert, was presented very nicely and inviting to be enjoyed!!! In regards of its ambience, the restaurant is located in a beautiful place of the picturesque Town of Lares. The place is very comfortable and inviting. It has a viewpoint at the top from where you can capture breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, coffee plantations, and other beautiful areas around the restaurant. When we visited it was raining and that transformed the atmosphere in a very cozy and romantic one. We really loved it!!! El Cepo is from now on one of our favorite places to visit every time we come back to our beautiful Island. We found this place basically by accident, and we do feel blessed for that!! We wish many blessings to the owner and all the staff that make of every customer's experience a memorable one! GOD bless you all!!!! Thank you for making of our experience an unforgettable one!!!

Staying nearby and decided to have lunch at El Cepo after visiting the town of Lares and the nearby caves (not great at all). Called in for a reservation as Open Table showed no availability. Beautiful place well done to allow for excellent views from pretty much everywhere in the restaurant. Many good options to select from in the menu, including different steak selections (although a bit pricey). We had the goat cheese appetizer and the fish and chicken with risotto, tostones and salad as sides and the turron crème brûlée (thanks spell check...) for dessert. Overall very nice experience and would definitely recommend if in the area.

The restaurant's remote yet near-town location with its beautiful panaromic view is amazing. The lambchops, and risotto were to die for, as they say. I loved, loved, loved the lemonade whose fresh spring of rosemary transported me away from all troubles. The ambiance is super special and the staff, professional and friendly. A definite recommend in the beautiful and historic town of Lares.

Ambiente familiar y de camaderia. read more

A hidden gem up in the coffee region of Puerto Rico. A magical place with spectacular views. Food was sublime. Impeccable service. Kiara, our server, went above and beyond to make sure our visit surpassed our expectations. She achieved her goal. The entire crew greeted us with enthusiasm, which set the stage for an unforgettable experience. Our goal was to celebrate my aunt's 88 birthday. She had a blast. You need to make reservations and trust me, it is well worth it. Place was packed with pleasant guest. I tried the Wagyu Burger with sweet potato fries. My aunt had the fillet mignon on blueberry sauce, my godmother followed me with the same burger and my cousin had lobster sautés on butter. A great list of appetizers served with red wine sauce and guava sauce, heavenly delicious. If you visit Puerto Rico is a "de rigueur" visit. Will we go back? Without any doubt or hesitation read more

The food and views are amazing. This is a gem in Lares and worth visiting. Steaks are the specialty, but the soups, empanadas, and seafood were cooked and plated perfectly. The decor and breeze make eating so peaceful. The service was great too. read more

Nestled in the beautiful mountains of Lares, Puerto Rico, this charming three-floor chalet with its inviting balconies offers a truly memorable dining experience. The service was attentive and quick, ensuring a pleasant visit from start to finish. We were all more than satisfied with our selections. My paella criolla for two was a homerun--flavorful and perfectly prepared. My son's chillo (red snapper) was exceptionally delicious, paired with a nicely executed mofongo. The churrasco was tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor, complemented perfectly by the mamposteao rice as a side. All of these carefully crafted dishes were enjoyed with the soothing mountain breeze and a breathtaking view of the sunset dipping behind clouds and lush peaks. read more
