I asked her about it and she said it was because she had to answer the phone. ***NO***. I walked out. I told her I couldn't check my dog in because I didn't feel safe because she wasn't wearing a mask. During this deadly covid season we're all living through right now, when I see people in public not wearing a mask, I can only assume they are part of the crowd that has politicized mask-wearing, and that not wearing one is an intentional, overt expression of their rebellion. Which is really stupid imo, but, in any case, I would think that even business owners who don't personally agree with the idea of masks would wear them and have their staff wear them anyway so that their clients feel safe enough to give them their business. This animal clinic in El centro, CA has scheduled nearly 90 animals each day. One veterinarian cannot effectively examine and treat that number of animals. Neither can he operate his business humanely. I had a small mini pin 13 years who I loved as I did any of my 9 children. She was to the point of neither eating or drinking. I explained her condition but to no avail. The vet would not examine her to possibly save her in her current condition. The secretary gave me the address of a pet hospital in Yuma, another 60+ miles away. My pet was slowly dying and I left to Hillside pet hospital. They quoted $150 for x-rays and diagnostic but upon arrival the amount they quoted me was $1077. I was desperate and maxed out one of credit cards.10 minutes passed and the vet she han itemized cost to help my dog over $7000 I could not pay anything close to that and no garentee3 i asked if they could euthanize her in her current condition and it was going to cost over 500 to do that and I was panicking and couldn't catch my breath. I chose to go out to my vehicle to and calm myself down and the pet hospital manager came out to my car saying that I was abandoning my pet if I left the property i was certain I couldn't borrow that amount and as an act of mercy I could make payments for the $500+ and they the manager and doctor wouldn't budge so I started the car and drove home to Niland, CA hoping some merciful act of human compassion for my pet Carmen. The next morning the owner of the pet hospital called me and said he put her to sleep no charge for his involvement. I couldn't even go there and Carmen died alone that day but by what means I do not know? I have become so tormented knowing i was not there to hold her during her passing. She died alone. There should be a maximum allowed amount per number of Veterinarians set by the local state governments in each state. No one should have to suffer ad I have and it has been over 3 months and I suffer each day in mournfully several times a day. Their phone has no voice mail.............just a message that is over a year old when the pandemic was just starting. No one seems caring..........including the Vet. The Vet did not seem interested in my dog and his problems........but he did want to tell me how wonderful trump was. It has been an awful experience and I had to drive 175 miles to go there and return home.........in East Yuma Foothills. Now I will try to get a $75 refund for med's that can't be shipped because the Vet will not bother to do the prescription. PET VM has been asking for the prescription every day for 2 weeks. Apathy, incompetence, and gross negligence would fairly summarize this sham of a "clinic". We have brought both of our St. Bernard's here for treatment, mostly out of convenience, for the last several years. With Dr. Thompson and Dr. Abby in charge it more closely resembled a well organized and compassionate facility. Unfortunately those days have passed and we are now stuck with a third rate, assembly line of a business. I have visited food trucks that are better run. Our dog Max developed a bump on his front right leg, towards the end of 2019, and was brought in for evaluation. We were initially told it was arthritis and he was prescribed anti-inflammatories and was sent on his way. There were no improvements, in fact the bump had grown in size, and subsequent visits did not yield any different answers. No bloodwork, biopsy, or anything was suggested (even though we asked AND his last visit showed a weight loss of 20 pounds). Fast forward to 2 days ago where he stopped eating and was groaning in pain. Since it was a weekend we had to contact a mobile vet from Indio, who helped him cross over the Rainbow Bridge peacefully. Both the mobile vet, and Dr. Howard (who kindly called us back after leaving a message with his answering service), both concurred that the bump was cancer and he was suffering a blockage. Max needlessly suffered due to the sheer negligence and incompetence of this staff. His death will not be in vain, I urge anyone to seek treatment elsewhere because this clinic is not fit to engage in any type of business. read more

The last time I went to this clinic my 5 year old Yorkie was in bad shape. It was after hours so I had to wait until someone let me in. My Yorkie lost consciousness. When I gave the Vet all of the symptoms she just knotted her head and put Kinsey in a kennel. 9:00 the next morning they called and said she passed through the night. Dr. Thompson and Dr. Abby are very caring vets and offer good vetting for the price they charge. They work with the rescue groups in the Valley making it possible to offer for adoption already fixed animals with vaccines. Only Dr. Thompson and Dr. Satow (Desert Vet. Gp) care anything about reducing the over-population of unwanted kittens and puppies in Imperial Valley by offering low cost spay/neuters. They have also NOT mis-diagnosed my animals like two other vets in the Valley have. read more

This place is for people who literally do not have another option. They would not let me make an appointment and when I showed up I had to wait for three appointments before me. They also took in a walk in that came after me before me. The receptionist is very unprofessional. She apologized to my puppy for making him wait, which I thought was weird, without even addressing me. I asked what I could use to prevent fleas for a puppy and they said I had to make an appointment for that information which wasn't available for another whole week. I looked at my receipt and noticed I was charged for deworming pills. I went back to find out those hadn't even been administered to my puppy. Then I noticed that the vet that signed off on the paperwork, Oliver Kenagy, wasn't even the person that saw my puppy in the first place. Is like they were trying to set a record for mistakes and bad attitude. You can tell people there absolutely hate their job. Anywhere else is better. If I could give this place less than one star I would. Took our dog here to get her bandages changed..was told to be there at 830am. Showed up no one was there and waited until 9am anyways. Only to go back around 4:30 and they're barely seeing her. Said she ripped her staples out herself while left alone in the room. Now, even with her cone off at home she never messes with them. So they stapled her back up, insisted we buy another cone even tho we had one. The vet Stood and yelled at my mother and sister about the cone. Telling us that we only cared about the money "it's all about the money huh" and getting really infuriated that my mom was asking questions about how to better take care of our animal. Brought our dog home and she now has TICKS! She's never had ticks, our other animals don't have ticks... Save yourself a trip and go somewhere else. I've taken 3 of my cats in 2 different occasions. Their service was great and my visit took less time than expected. The last time we visited, we took a rescued cat (Ouia Ouia) that had been attacked multiple times by another feral cat. His wound was located on his back, around tail. Eventually the wound got infected, the infection seeped to his spine and his back legs completely gave out. The doctor gave us antibiotics and instructed us how to clean his wound. We did as instructed and the cat regained movement on his legs within two days. Now Ouia Ouia is stronger than ever. Thank you guys so much!!! read more

I adopted a cat from the Petco by the mall. With my new kitty came a free check up from Dr. Thompson. I took her within two days of adopting her for her first check up. She was extremely skiddish and nervous in the first place, and was terrified to be at the Vet's. Dr. Thompson didn't greet me when he came into the room. I tried to explain to him how the cat was having digestive problems. He poked and proded her as roughly as possible, and proceeded to tell me nothing was wrong with her. Other than that, he had nothing further to say to me during my visit. I have never met such a rude, insensitive, careless vet in my life. What offended me even more, was when a Border Patrol Agent and his canine showed up, Dr. Thompson was all smiles and as talkative as could be. I know BP probably pays top dollar for his services, but don't volunteer free services to shelter animals if you don't give a crap about them. I would have been a repeat paying customer, had Dr. Thompson had a little more compassion for the abused animal I just rescued from the shelter. I took my new cat home, and scheduled another visit with Dr. Satow at Desert Vet Clinic the next day. He took a sample, and surprise, suriprise...she had an infection. He actually cared about my cat, and took his time to talk to me and thoroughly examine my kitty, unlike Dr. Thompson. I do not recommend this place. Compassion and love for the animals are non-existent. It all come down to the money. Dr. Abby needs to go back to school. My dog would have gone misdiagnosed had I not looked for a second opinion. Your pet is only treated 'well' if you are willing to spend a lot of money. My eight year old dog had been vomiting and refusing to eat, we didn't know what to do with her, she was dehydrating quickly despite of our efforts to administer Pedialyte. Baffled as to what was wrong with her, Dr. Abby had my dog tested and she was "positive" for parvo...I couldn't believe it, she didn't bother to physically check for anything else. They wanted close to $700 to 'treat' her, or I would like to plainly say it-Taking my dog's health hostage. It was a long list for unnecessary services they were trying to do, such as X-Rays, etc. We turned down all the other things that we knew our dog did not need. We basically wanted her to be hydrated and checked properly. So...she was only hydrated. No antibiotics no anything else for $170. Sent home with the instruction of administering Pedialyte. Really? I didn't know that, good grief. Basically, take your dog and let it die. The correct diagnosis was bacterial gastroenteritis. OLD DOGS RARELY GET PARVO. Most valley dogs will test positive for Parvo since it's so predominant and have been exposed to it but not necessarily have it. Took her to another Vet. She was hydrated and treated, and after one day of treatment, my dog is moving around, eating and wagging it's tail. read more

I love this clinic, and I so appreciate Dr. Wishner. Last Saturday evening my beloved horse Bandit became extremely I'll and I was terrified I might lose him. Dr. Wishner responded to my emergency call and rushed to my ranch. Bandit was extremely dehydrated and blocked. Dr. Wishner treated Bandit and stayed with us until Bandit was out of crisis; he left about midnight. Words cannot explain how much I adore my cat Maverick, so when he got extremely sick last year I was devastated. I took him to the animal clinic to see what was going on, and Dr. Abby was extremely compassionate. She gave Maverick an IV, took some samples for tests, and was very gentle with him the whole time. Since it was on a Friday, she even insisted that we come in on Sunday (they're closed) so she could administer another IV so he could have a better chance at surviving. I was amazed that she would do that for us, and though she prepared us for the worst, Maverick recovered soon after! At the time, he was a very sick 10 lb 1 year old Maine Coon, and he's now a healthy 21 lbs a year later. read more

No. WTH has happened to this place?! I adopted a cat from the Humane Society, and had not been back here since before Dr. T passed away. Took kitty in for his free vet exam, and waited patiently while trying not to eavesdrop on the private employee conversations happening behind the counter. When it was our turn, I voiced my kitty concerns. I thought for sure the male curly-haired vet would would at least look in my cat's ears and look closely at his skin. After all, the Humane Society pays for the "free" visit. I was 99.9% sure my cat had Ear Mites, and he had bald patches and scabs from scratching. He also had (occasionally) bloody diarrhea which was my main concern. They came back with an estimate of $160 just to test his poop and "determine" whether or not the cat had ear mites. You never even looked at his ears!!! I paid the $50+ for the fecal test, and took home the plastic container to collect the sample in. When I came back the next day and brought the container back in, I was promptly ignored at the window along with a lady that had been there longer. After several minutes of an employee sitting at a computer typing, *directly* in front of us, the other lady got mad and snapped at them to cancel her appointment. All the sudden, there is a couple half-assed "be with you in a minutes"complete with annoyed looks. Probably the first time I ever stood at a counter for 10 minutes just to hand off a container of poop. The other lady looked at me and said "They're not very nice here". I see that! Guess it's time to give Desert Veterinary another shot. read more

Please stay away from this place. My dog started developing symptoms on a Friday, over the weekend there wasn't a vet service available in the valley. I took my dog on monday. When I picked up my dog to carry him to my vehicle he was crying for so much pain. When he was examined by the veterinarian at this location he stated that he needed to draw blood to diagnose his condition. Veterinarian stated that my dog had an elevated White cell count but that he didn't know what was his illness. Veterinarian injected my dog. Prescribed 3 pills of what I think was antibiotics. I made my dog swallow 2 of those pills but he died the next day. The cost of this visit was $350.00. Money that I can't afford not even for a personal dr visit. I'm sure that Veterinarian knew there was nothing that could help my dog. The greed of this veterinarian and his staff has no limits. Please stay away from this place. read more

Had an emergency with our pooch. Blood in her urine. Walked into the clinic and Dr. Thompson saw her right away. We had a urine sample with us. He diagnosed a blatter infection and sent us on our way with a percription of Amoxicillin. I'm only giving one star because giving zero stars isn't a option! I went to this vet for many years Only to find out that the injections they were giving my dog shouldn't have been given to him nearly as much as they were causing him to develop lumps and growths on his body! He was 10yrs old when he passed away and so I had took him here for cremation because I was told they were the only vet to do it on site! This is where everything went very bad! First I walked in and told the lady I was there to bring my dog in for cremation and explained to her that he was in the car. She then started to talk to another worker there and then turns back to me and says ok go ahead and bring your dog inside so we can evaluate him? I then asked her evaluate? He is dead and in a bag! He is here to be cremated not to be seen... she asked how big he was and I told her he was 60lbs and she then had me carry my dead dog inside and put him on a scale from the scale I had to carry him back outside and set him in a deep freezer on top of a bunch of other dead animals! This was my first dog ever and I was devistated now I'm having to carry my dead dog all over the vet? A couple days later I called to check on his ashes because I wanted his ashes back and the girl who answered the phone clearly wasn't paying attention because I told her I was calling to check on my dogs ashes she asked for his name so I told her she then puts me on hold comes back and tells me that they don't have a dog there by that name! I said I dropped him off three days ago to be cremated and she says "oh your dog passed" I was looking in the back... anytime I had to deal with this place no one was ever focused on one task and honestly it just made the experience that much worse because they kept talking to me as though he was alive. So now I don't even want to take a dead dog to this place let alone a dog that is alive! read more

I'm taking 1 star down for price. The pricing is ridiculous. I paid $255 for this and that just so I could be told that my poor girl had kidney failure. They wanted up to $750 in total (I still have it printed out on paper, so I'm not exaggerating) just to administer IV fluids and to house her for the night. We had to take our loved one elsewhere. I'm taking yet another 2 stars for conspiracy. Our girl passed away almost 6 days later (not blaming the clinic but ourselves) and we needed our girl cremated. I couldn't bury her here in the yard since we rent the space. I can't afford a pet cemetery either. But anyway, the clinic does NOT provide clear evidence that they cremate your beloved pet separately (let alone, cremate properly, for that matter). I called them twice on the phone asking how I could be sure if my girl's ashes were going to be returned to me, but all they kept saying was, "We make sure we tag their name on their bodies and cremate them separately". I kept repeating them how I could be 100% sure, but I never got a satisfying answer back. After picking up the urn with supposedly my little one's ashes, I decided to ask them in person. The one attending me at least tried to give me more info about the place where they cremate. She even went ahead to ask her superiors (I think) but only to come back to me saying that she can't provide me with any info at all. I became rather speechless. I may never know if I truly have my precious doggy's ashes inside this urn. I feel as though I should do something about it. For all we know, these guys work with a third party company with very bad practices. Unfortunately, the pet cremation industry is unregulated. On my research I've read that only few business owners have moral ethics and cremate properly and even let pet owners watch the cremation process so they can be 100% sure they're getting their loved ones' ashes back. Some others RECORD VIDEO instead. Now WHY can't this clinic provide something as simple as video?? Or even pictures at least?? If I ever find out they're not providing the service that we paid for, you bet a lawsuit will come in order. read more

I took my doggie Trixie because her breath was really bad, she was loosing teeth and I wasn't sure what was going on. The staff and the Vet were really nice and compassionate. The technician that was going to perform the deep cleaning and possible removable of her teeth was very informative and considerate of my concerns. She provided an estimate from low to high depending on what she might find once she worked on Trixie. I am happy to say that all went well, the technician explained everything by phone when she had finished working on Trixie and again when I picked her up, great customer service. The staff here really cares about our animals and although there are some not so good reviews I can tell you they are great. I would also like to add that the 3 times I was there clients brought in their animals with various bad conditions such as passing and being ill and their staff did not miss a beat they provided the same loving and compassionate care that I received. Thank you for loving and caring for our animals. Oh and to put the icing on this message I ended up paying less then the low ball quote because some of the stuff that the technician quoted me were not required, so lets add HONEST to their greatness!!!!! read more

This used to be the only place I would take my animals. Ever since Dr. Thompson passed, this place has gone downhill. I brought my very old cat in (20 years old) because she had stopped eating. The vet that checked her out (I didn't get his name) said there was nothing they could do for her and the best thing to do was to put her down. My husband and I had known that time was drawing near, she had arthritis and she could only eat soft food but this was still very difficult for us. We cried when the vet euthanized her. The nurse came in and saw us crying next to the motionless cat on the table and said "Oh he already did it?" Then, we had made it very clear that we wanted to keep her ashes. My husband had to spend 10 minutes arguing with the nurse to make sure that we would get her back. Fast forward a few months, My husband and I were feeding a stray cat and her kittens. After we found homes for the kittens, we wanted to get her spayed. We called ECAC and they said wanted to charge us full price to spay a stray cat. They would not give us any kind of discount, all they did was give us the phone number for Man's Best Friend- we had already called them and they said they did not have any openings but they would let us know when they did. It's been at least 2 months and we still haven't received a call. I called Desert Veterinary Group and they spayed the cat for $20 and gave her a rabies shot. read more

I brought my dog here for an emergency-he had been hit by a car. The clinic is not prepared for emergencies, it seems they specialize in routine care. Although the reception staff was kind, they seem to have one vet in charge and something like an assistant vet that picks up the slack....and that doesn't cut it most of the time based on long waits. The main vet does not have good interpersonal skills either....and when I asked for a discount after the fact and the bill was due, I was told that the price was "fair" and I could have taken my dog to San Diego to shop around for cheaper prices beforehand (mind you, he had been hit by a car). This was all stated very matter of factly. My dog also came home and developed gangrene where they had given him bandages on his so they had to amputate his tail a few weeks later. Thanks El Centro Animal Clinic! Another expense I owed and more trauma for my dog. Yet the clinic staff had told me that I had to leave the bandages/cast on as they were, since his tail was fractured. Sigh. A few months went by and he seemed to recover well until I noticed a weight loss and lack of apetite. This time around I went to a vet in Mexicali where they performed a blood analysis, x-rays, the works. Aparently from the accident, my dog had suffered internal injuries that damaged his kidneys and bone joints and this had in turn caused anemia, thus leading to an enlarged heart and spleen. It was very sad news...and the El Centro Animal Clinic had done x-rays and blood tests before and never mentioned any of this. They just "fixed" the broken bones and then followed up with the tail amputation due to the gangrene. It is hard to lose a dog, but to be strung along to be made believe that your dog can in fact recover when it isn't possible due to internal injuries in the kidney, all to make money, is wrong. The El Centro Animal Clinic's vet is there to make money, leave no doubt about it. Bad bedside manner and unequipped staff to handle serious issues. This place has the attitude that there are only 3 vets in the Valley, so they can offer the lowest level of service at the highest prices-at your pet's expense. I highly urge people to consider another vet either in Mexicali or the one in Imperial. Likewise, and this is disturbing, when my dog was at this clinic, I left him to go to work after the accident. When I went to see him after I got off work, he was in pain and stress, more so than when I had brought him in. No one had been there to comfort him from the staff, he had crapped on himself and it was DRY by the time I saw him, so no one had been checking on him either. I was so angry about the lack of concern or alertness that the staff had for their animals, they were giving priority to people who were just there for routine shots or run of the mill problems while my dog was suffering. I think they said the vet was waiting for swelling to go down...but then I was told they were fixing another dog and whenthey finished my dog would be able to be operated on next. When I asked why it was like this, I was told that he had been given a morphine shot already so there wasn't anything else they could do and he just had to wait regardless because of the swelling. I just stayed there with him until the assistant vet came along and took him into surgery-4 hours later. Please, have a plan in case your pet has an emergency. In the Valley, some the vets rotate who is on call after hours or on weekends....so it isn't always possible, but have a back up vet in Mexicali too for emergencies...and just write this clinic off if you have a serous problem as they are over priced, the vet is non compassionate and they either missed serious health problems or just didn't let me know, so that they could run expensive tests and perform surgery when in fact the writing was already on the wall. My dog was seen at this clinic on 12/30/10. She was misdiagnosed, and given a steroid injection that contributed to the death of my family pet. I can only say a thorough exam including blood work on Dec 30 instead of ending up in the emergency care clinic in san diego on Dec 31, may have saved her life. I am very disappointed in the El Centro Vet ....and could not recommend anyone to that clinic. If you have an emergency, please go elsewhere. I take responsibility for not demanding a full exam, but I cannot take responsibility for having to ask for that. Blood work up should be standard of care for all animals presenting with my dog's symptoms and that was not provided at this clinic by this vet. read more

We would recommend them without hesitation to anyone who LOVES their pets. If a option -10 stars! Never...ever again. My pet was scheduled for procedure over a week in advance. I dropped my pet off the morning of the scheduled procedure, I was told to call late afternoon that day. I stopped by at the time specified (mind you no call came from them) they stated my pet was delayed and procedure would be completed that evening. My pet was being prepped for surgery. I was told to return the following morning. I returned the following morning at 9:30am as told again no call from them) I went to pick my pet up at 10am and again was my pet was delayed and is currently in surgery. I was told to call later in the afternoon. Let's see what happens...my poor pet has been in a cage at the vets for a total of two days possibly three! What the hell, my pet is important to me...imagine if that was my child...against the law...no child is delayed for surgery! Never...ever again. El Centro Animal Clinic you SUCK!!
