This was a fun stop. The restaurant is certainly Southern French style, in a building with a courtyard and lights strung between trees. El Campo was near by our bed and breakfast, so my group had dinner here. While it's a Spanish restaurant, our host said the food was amazing and they had a few local dishes too, so off we went!
My sister speaks fluent french, so she helped my husband and I translate unfamiliar words on the menu, and then ordered for us once we were ready. I'm really happy she did that, because we might have had some trouble otherwise; the staff didn't speak much English, and it appeared we were the only English speakers in the restaurant, which I took as a good sign! Also, by the time we finished with our meal, every table was seated, which was also a great sign.
The food was fantastic. I had a local dish of beans, duck, and sausage, slow cooked and delicious. My sister had the same thing, and honestly, we should have split one. It was far too much food for the both of us. My husband had beef tartare that was absolutely amazing.
Even though we couldn't finish our meals, for some reason or another we still ordered desert. Ice cream with chocolate syrup (incredible) and brioche french toast. Be forewarned, if you try El Campo's french toast, just know you will never, ever, ever have french toast as good ever again. It. Was. Amazing!! So warm, fresh, delicious, crispy...my mouth is watering thinking about it all over again!
El Campo was very good. Large portions, fresh food, and a popular place! Definitely a win! read more
