I enjoy the food and atmosphere at El Campesino, but it is so dark in there that you have trouble reading the menu. They need to replace the overhead lights. Also, it needs a good cleaning from top to bottom. read more

I'm really not sure what to rate this restaurant. SomeoId fine dining. Classy. Well, maybe for Duncan is. But honestly, they have a buffet and it really didn't look that good. Looked like the food had dried out. We didn't order that but ordered from menu My husband ordered the chicken sandwich. It was grilled. Well spiced. The French fries were good but he said something was not right. Maybe just undercooked. No spices at all on yjose I read they had the medical cocktail that they call cocktail camsronies. So, I tried that. Wow!! When I yadyed it the first thing I did was draw I'm a breath and lift my eyebrows in shock. I said to my his and this is xi sweet. How much sugar did they add!! Other than that it was really good. I ate about half and took the rest home. We also ordered the street tacos)don't remember the name) They are bland but that's normal. The tortillas tasted really fresh. The beef wasn't tough. It also had cilantro something else. It came with a side of Verde sauce(green), beans and rice. All in all, it wasn't bad But....here is why they received a three-star rating. We had to ask for napkins. Then we had to ask for silverware. Then we had to wave our waitress down for more tea. I spilled the cheese and she was very slim and laid back. The entire time she seemed very detached though she did ask if we needed anything else sr the end of the real. Really weird And finally, what bothered me MOST waste called ahead of time and asked them how they were handling the vivid virus. At you practicing so I'm distancing (yes) Is all the staff wearing masks (yes-and sanitizer) We got there and none was true. Everyone that came was "find a seat where you want to sit" No one had masks on. They had a small bottle of sanitizer at the checkout. I just had heart surgery and was horrified at what we saw. We should have tut we and left because I am both risks. We got to the car and I grabbed my sanitizer and rubbed every inch of my arms! I didn't know if she misunderstood me, it's doubtful that we will be back because of that If you didn't mind the above it's worth trying but don't go expecting z nice restaurant. I've been eating in Duncan for years and I swear I don't think I ever heard anyone talk about this place. Maybe I'm wrong or killed off that brain cell at some point. I went here on recommendation of a client I was working with and it was just around the corner. The place was clean with appropriate decor and friendly staff. Service was quick and the food was hot and cooked to order. I got a chili rellano with chicken, a cheese enchilada topped with chili and chips salsa/queso both of which were made there it seemed. The queso wasn't bad but it's yellow (cheddar) which just isn't my favorite. The salsa was OK but nothing to write home about. They usually have habanero sauce but were out today so maybe next time. The food was very good IMO. The rice was hands down best in town. Most of the time it's usually kind of bland and is just a filler. This rice could have been a meal by itself. Beans also tasty and the main course was gone pretty quick. You also get a sopapilla if desired at the end. I tried it since I haven't had one in forever and it was very tasty. I had to scrape off some of the sugar as it was just too much jut after that was fine. Not sure why this place hasn't got more press outside of being a lil off the beaten path. They have a lunch buffet which I'd like to try since I just missed it last time. Price was reasonable IMO and on par with other restaurants. read more

If you like authentic Mexican food, this is it. I grew up in south Texas enjoying Mexican food. Moved to Duncan and found this place years ago. My family and I go here 4-5 times a month. Sunday buffet has chicken fried steak and chicken fajitas along with other stuff. If you want to order from menu, it has 60+ options. Great atmosphere and folks that run the restaurant. read more

I love El Campesino! the staff works together to prepare authentic Mexican food. my favorite is the their Chile Rellenos.

My husband and I ate here on a Monday night while staying at a local bed-and-breakfast, the Lindley House. We came in around 6 PM and there was only one other family in the restaurant. Service was efficient and quick. The manager was friendly as he walked through the restaurant a couple of times and he delivered our dinners personally. Highlights of the meal: The chips and warm queso brought to the table when you first arrive. The chips were crispy and well seasoned. The queso had nice flavor. We also enjoyed the fresh salsa that was medium heat on the spice scale. My husband ordered the espinacas enchiladas (spinach) with rice and refried beans and they were very good. The refried beans were nicely flavored. I had the Juarez special. It consisted of a cheese enchilada, soft cheese taco, regular beef taco and guacamole tostada, along with rice. The cheese enchilada had a very good red sauce. I'm not always a fan of red sauce but this was very nice. The soft cheese taco was standard. The beef taco was OK and I was disappointed in the guacamole tostada. The guacamole was average but the tostada was slightly stale. Neither of us enjoyed the rice. It was cold and not flavorful. With all that said I give this restaurant a rating of three. We feel it is the best Mexican food we have had in Oklahoma. It was an authentic Mexican restaurant. We are used to the Tex-Mex in our home state of Texas. I recommend that you try this restaurant, we would definitely eat there again. read more

You get queso along with the chips and salsa included! This place was good, I got tamales but subbed red sauce instead of chili (personal tastes), but my coworker got chili on hers. This was a good little hideaway off the main drag, with a drive thru liquor store next door! read more

If you have not tried this little hidden gem, you should do it! Excellent service, and a great menu offering. The lunch buffet has mini burritos, taco prep, and American food options too! This is my favorite restaurant in Duncan and my favorite Mexican restaurant period. The beef is extremely savory and by far the best beef I have gotten at a Mexican restaurant. Their chili is also amazing and closest I have ever gotten to real chili at a restaurant before. The salsa is incredible in my opinion but is made in a way that I feel many would not like though. While it is a great restaurant it is not without its faults. Because it is a small family owned business the staff seems to be limited with there rarely being more than two waiters. While those waiters are among the best waiters they often times get overrun during peak business hours as a result. The queso while free is bland and average. The last two are not problems for me as I never go during peak hours and I don't go to Mexican restaurants for queso either but i can understand how some people would have issues with that. read more
