We put our dogs in their kennels for a few days. These are super people who are super busy. This is a full sized ranch that does horse rides, parties and kennel care. It's different than places that concentrate on keeping dogs. The kennels are air conditioned, and located in the corner of the property, away from the horse stalls and the owners' home. There's someone at the kennel several hours a day, but that seems to be kind of hit and miss. Our dogs were fed and watered, so they did provide basic services, but we're going to look for a place that gives all their attention to the dogs. read more

The lady called back after and let me know pricing, she also informed me that we needed a reservation in order to book a lesson. I had to talk with my husband before I made the reservation so I told her I would call back. After about 15 minutes I called back and got the voicemail box again. I left a message. After a couple days with no call back. I went to the website and left a message as well as my email so we could make a reservation for five kids to learn how to horse back ride. My daughters have been looking forward to riding horses since we found this ranch. It has been 12 days now and I have yet to get a response. I find this very unprofessional. Definitely would avoid this place. I inquired about throwing a party on their website. They called me back same day and set up an appointment to come look at the ranch before booking it. I got there and no one was there to assist. We didn't know where we were going and didn't feel comfortable just walking around on our own. I tried calling Theresa to let her know I was there . We have been a part of this ranch for about 1 year and have had Emlyn as my daughter's horse trainer. She is patient, kind, and extremely knowledgeable. This was my daughter's first riding experience. She takes the time to explain everything, is extremely aware of how young riders are feeling around the horses and will accommodate as she sees fit. She understands which horse is best for each rider and will make it a priority after every lesson to communicate with us as parents. We hosted our daughter's wedding at the ranch last weekend and it went off without a hitch. With the beautiful views of the mountains and spectacular grounds decorated with flowers and lighting, it was absolutely stunning. Theresa, the owner, couldn't have been more accommodating. We hired the caterer she recommended, Westacos and the food was amazing. We had a wedding bounce house, a bucking bronco that was a hit with the kids and the adults and the newly renovated event center had a photo booth. There was a petting zoo and Shetland ponies as well. There is somewhat limited parking, but we hired a valet parking service to park the cars nearby, which worked out very well. Our friends and family said it was the most fun they've ever had at a wedding reception. I would definitely recommend El Camino Ranch for parties and events. Had the worst experience attempting to give my daughter a 1-hr private lesson for her and a friend for her birthday. I read some bad reviews online but the website said they were under new management, so I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt, thinking things may be better now. Spoiler: they're not. Spoke to Theresa on the phone weeks in advance and booked 2 one-hour lessons to take place simultaneously at noon on a Saturday. Since I never received an email or any written confirmation, I decided I better call the day before to confirm. Luckily I did because it turned out she had booked the lessons to be one after another instead of at the same time, even though it was made very clear when I booked, which was a little disappointing, but we were able to rearrange our plans and work around the inconvenience. This was all settled at about 4pm Friday afternoon. The next morning we are getting ready for our lesson, my daughter was so excited, when I see a text from the ranch simply stating that "all the horses have come up lame" and they can't do any lessons today. The text also stated that they had known about this for some time, but chose not to inform me (even though I had just spoken to them less than 24 hrs ago and expressed how excited my 7-yo was for her birthday ride) because they were "hoping the horses would come back online." This was really disappointing to hear via text at the last minute when it was too late to plan something else. My daughter was heartbroken, and anyone who knows about horses will tell you it is concerning and not typical that all of them would be lame at once. To make matters worse, about an hour later, I got a call from a different staff member who apparently didn't know about the text and was calling to inform me our lesson was canceled for an entirely different reason! This one said she had to cancel because a personal emergency come up and she couldn't be at the barn today, nothing about lame horses. When I mentioned the other text I'd received, she said, "Oh...yeah, the horses are also lame." I wish I were joking! My sister, myself, and niece bought three one hour lesson. One each. When we arrived the ranch staff, Lisa, redeemed all three of our coupons. The coupon said one hour horseback riding lesson. We were given one horse to share, and got 15 minutes each to go in a circle. We were there for 50 minutes total. I ask Ranch staff why they redeemed all three coupons, "Lisa" said we would have to email owner. I called and emailed owner and after over 4 weeks and many attempts- no response back- but We are out 75 dollars for 15 min to go in a circle on a horse. read more

My review is based solely on my daughter's birthday party here at this facility. I really wanted to give this place a good review, but I just don't think I can after thinking about my entire experience from start to finish. I initially called and spoke to Theresa (I believe she is the ranch owner). She was helpful and provided me with all the information I was looking for. After reading reviews, and taking special note of the one very negative review regarding a party here, I went ahead and cautiously booked. I signed and emailed the contract to Theresa and mailed my deposit check. I had to check with Theresa multiple times to confirm she received the contract and check. She couldn't find my deposit check for over a month and never did confirm after many attempts to find out if she received my signed contract. I spoke to her many times to confirm the party was booked since I had no real confirmation. Through many of our conversations, Theresa was always asking me what day my party was, what time it was again, if we were scheduled to "paint the pony", etc. Not a very comforting feeling when the party host cannot keep any of your party information straight. I kept worrying we would show up the day of the party to find out she has us booked with someone else or not scheduled at all. I wanted to check out the facility prior to the party so I could determine what items I needed to bring. Theresa explained the facility was always open and I could just "walk in".I drove out one day to take a look. I felt a little awkward just walking around unsupervised, so I waited while someone was teaching a riding lesson. A not-so-friendly instructor asked me what I needed, and sent a teenager to help me out. I also sent Theresa a text when I arrived in the hopes that I could meet her and at least put a face to a name. She never responded to my text. The day of the party, I sent Theresa a text to let her know we had arrived. I expected her to walk over and introduce herself and run through set-up and other party information, but she never did. We started setting up and did so for about an hour, and Theresa still never came over to greet us. The same, not-so-friendly instructor was teaching a lesson and at one point asked us to stop setting up because she didn't want us to scare the horse (I fully understood her concern). The party started at 11 and guests were arriving and the girls were anxious to ride the horses. I was originally told the girls would start riding at 11:30 and would ride for an hour. A few random teenagers with waivers and a clipboard (still no interaction with any real employee of the ranch yet) walked over to have the parents sign. At 11:45, I had to call Theresa on the phone (she STILL hadn't shown up yet to greet us) and ask her when the girls were going to ride. She informed me that the instructor was finishing a lesson and would be right over. The instructor finally rounded up the girls and brought them over to start riding. The instructor (Lisa, I believe her name was) must not care much for children. She was very rude to the kids and acted as though we were a HUGE inconvenience to her. I completely understand that horses are big and strong animals and care must be taken when working with, and around them, but there is a nice way to talk to these young girls and she chose to be rude. She yelled and had an attitude the entire time. We had a party of 10 and each girl got exactly one, 6 minute ride on the horse. That's it. The ride was around in a circle, being led by yet another teenager. Totally unprofessional from my perspective and several parents made the same comment to me. It's a terrible feeling to know your party guests are worried about the safety of their kids. During the riding portion of the party, Theresa FINALLY walked over to introduce herself. A little too late at this point, I was already completely annoyed by the treatment we received an lack of direction or concern. After the 6 minute horseback ride, we were scheduled to "paint the pony". I went into the event center to grab my camera and by the time I came back out, they were done painting. I was told this takes 30 minutes, but it was all of about 5 minutes. My husband walked up as they were painting and approached just as Lisa was yelling at one of the girls. I don't know why this woman is in charge of parties when she clearly doesn't like hosting them. After they were done painting, every staff member disappeared and we didn't see anyone until Lisa came over to ask for final payment. The event center is cute and you can really set up a fun party there, if only the staff cared. I realize this is a stable with boarding and riding lessons as their main source of income, so the parties are probably an afterthought for the business and it definitely shows. Unfortunately, I left feeling embarrassed that I held a party at such an unorganized facility with a mean staff. None of my guests were impressed by El Camino Ranch. read more

I have had the WORST experience with this ranch, and highly recommend that you steer clear from throwing any parties at this location. This review has been posted due to the lack of communication and lack of effort, from the owner, of the ranch, to solve this privately. It has been almost 20 days since my last email correspondence and I have not received ANY kind of response. My sons birthday party was set to be thrown on November 27th, 2016. I provided a $100 deposit to Theresa Houchin, the ranch owner, a few days prior. On Saturday morning, the 26th I went to the ranch to render the contract and questioned Theresa in regards to the weather. It had been raining on and off for the last few days and I believed it would be best to reschedule considering the weather forecast. When I asked Theresa if the rain would pose a problem to the party she stated, "I have thrown multiple parties in the rain and it will be fine." I was hesitant to agree but trusted her because she seemed so certain that it would be absolutely NO problem. When I arrived on the 27th, I began unloading decorations and it wasn't until 20 minutes after that Theresa arrived. At which point SHE brought up rescheduling because of the rain. She mentioned having called earlier to reschedule. She made ONE call FIFTEEN MINUTES BEFORE I was set to arrive. Correct me if I am wrong but 15 minutes is NOT an adequate amount of time to notify someone of a cancellation. A cancellation was certainly not what I expected following the reassurance of rain being absolutely no problem. She followed my hesitation with, "" It wouldn't be the best idea to have it today, the horses will be cold and the children will get wet." Is this not something that should have been thought about the day before? With her having made it clear that it was an inconvenience to her and uncomfortable to the horses I hesitantly, agreed. I let her know that I would get in contact with her at a later date to try and reschedule. I came around to getting in contact with her about a week afterwards and expressed my feelings of opposition to rescheduling.The date I had chosen was specific to when out of town family members would be available. Finding another date would be close to impossible before the end of the year, with holiday's coming up. Being that she was the one who suggested rescheduling I believed it was only right to adhere to the contract which states, "AS SOON AS A CONTRACTOR IS AWARE OF A POTENTIAL CANCELLATION, DELAY, OR LOCATION CHANGE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY CUSTOMER. . .CUSTOMER MAY, AT CUSTOMERS OPTION CANCEL THE SERVICES ALTOGETHER...IF THE SERVICES ARE CANCELLED CONTRACTOR SHALL PROMPTLY REFUND THE DEPOSIT IN FULL TO THE CUSTOMER." This was followed with a string of emails from herself and her husband stating, that I was in the wrong and there would be no deposit return. The argument stems from her saying she only "suggested" the cancellation. The following are direct quotes from emails I received, "First, obviously we have no control of the weather, especially the heavy downpour that started about 15 minutes prior to your party start time." The heavy downpour had begun Friday and was forcasted to continue throughout the weekend, hence my hesitation at even agreeing to keep that date. "I did not cancel your party, I asked you if you wanted to reschedule, Due to the rain," If the rain was the reason for the "suggestion" then why was MY suggestion of rescheduling, the day before, ignored? I have attempted to handle this matter privately as to avoid giving the ranch a bad name seeing that, my sister is a part of the "boot camp" services provided by the ranch. Which thus far has never posed a problem. However with the lack of effort from Theresa, to solve this privately, I am forced to make this public. I can only hope that this serves as a warning for anyone who is considering having a party at this location. read more

We were looking for a new place to board our dogs. When I connected with Theresa on the phone, she was really nice and professional. The facility is very nice and quiet. We met Matt who took our two dogs and we left them in a building with modified horse stalls. They are so roomy and spacious compared to other places we have used in the past. One thing I look at is the faces and conditions of the other animals that are there, they all seemed well kept. The whole place was clean and neat. When we picked up our two poodles, they were just as we left them, clean and very relaxed attitude, (not easy for poodles). The dogs have a nice place out in the country to run around and not be in a crowded place like other boarding facilities. El Camino Ranch also boards and handles horses. I had a horse here for a short amount of time and I couldn't help but adopting one who was living in very bad conditions and continuously got under fed. Many of the people who work here are very unskilled and refuse to take any sort of advice. The stalls were always very muddy & hardly ever mucked. There are two turnouts that people leave their horses in for up to an hour and just overall the riding isn't very safe due to the in-proper care of the pens/arena. Beware about trying to work with your horse in any pen because a very bossy rude lady will demand you leave so she may teach a lesson, even though that's a clear breach of the contract you signed initially which states no arenas/turnouts/pens will be able to be reserved. Overall a very rundown, unsafe, unclean place to board your horse. The worst part is how they treat the sweet horses no animal deserves to be treated that way. read more

I love this kennel. It's very clean and temperature controlled. The horse stall are very large comfy spaces for the dogs to be in. They have lots of space to run around when they get let out to play. This ranch not only has many underfed horses but the people are very unknowledgeable and do not like advice. We saved one horse from here. One pony had feet so overgrown it could barely walk and the owner did not care. Many of the horses are not ridden or cared for properly. Many people offer to help the owner but she did not want any help whatsoever. The owners also feed a very small amount. Overall the horses here seem to not be treated well and it is very hard to see, I wish I could save them all. Apparently they now have a stallion that they isolate and people have said they beat it in the cross ties, please do not allow them to continue hurting such sweet animals. read more

I bought a Groupon for this place end of June and 4 months later still have not been able to use it. I called and most of the time no one answers. When I did get someone they were always booked. The entire summer I got told no because the horses were reserved for camp members. So I tried after summer. Nope all booked. I finally made an appointment 3-4 weeks ahead for 6pm and I get there and nobody is there. Tried calling and no answer. Look up their hours and find out they had booked me after their closing time which is 5pm. Now my Groupon will expire before I can manage to get another appointment. I've contacted Groupon for a refund. Do not buy a Groupon for this place if you wanna use it. Funny thing is I finally managed to get that one appointment when I didn't mention I had a Groupon. I boarded my two dogs here fir a weekend. I was a bit worried, because they had never been before. The kennels are horse stalls and are very spacious. They come with elevated dog cots and it is climate controlled. You can bring your dogs own bed and toys. When I picked up my dogs, I got a full run down of all their activities over the weekend. I could tell they had been loved because they knew some of both my dogs personalities. We will leave them here again. read more

We literally had to get someone. The kids horseback riding would've been fine except for the owner hounding my wife for prompt payment in front of our guests. HOW RUDE. Then she had the nerve to criticize us that we will not be done with or party on time. She even said that there's another party to follow. When we left on time, no one was coming to set up the next party. I felt like we were discriminated because of our nationality, perhaps. The helpers were there especially the gentleman. We had my daughter's birthday party there a few weeks ago. We had a wonderful experience. I worked with Theresa in the beginning and she was very quick to communicate and return phone calls. She gave us a nice tour of the event space and surrounding stables in advance. There were SEVERAL volunteers on site the day of, and each of them approached us numerous times to see if we needed any help setting up/tearing down. The event center was cleaned and patio hosed off... the area was really pretty and we didn't feel the need to bring any additional decorations, only a few chairs to put in the shade. The staff made sure we kept to the schedule; we did the horse rides, petting zoo and paint a pony. We finished with enough time for cake and presents. The kids enjoyed running around the outside patio, watching the horses, and playing on the small jungle gym. The paint a pony was the biggest hit! Even the shyest kids got into that one. Brice and the onsite staff were very helpful, and very patient with all the excited and anxious kids. The feedback I got from the other parents was also positive. The price was very very reasonable..... and comparable to what I would have spent on an at home birthday party with a bounce house. This was the MOST stress free birthday party I have thrown for my daughter. The only thing that would have been easier was if I got the liability forms for each of the kids signed prior to the party. We had to rush to get signatures right before the horse rides started. Theresa gave me 1 with the contract, but I wasn't aware I had to give them to the parents of each kid (or she might have told me and I just forgot). Make copies and hand them out with your invites! So thrilled with the care given to our 3 dogs by Theresa and her crew. We were so worried about putting out 14+ year old in the kennel, but they took great care of him and the other two. When we arrived early to pick them up I was impressed that all the stalls (yes, they are in old horse stalls) had already need cleaned. The other dogs in stalls seemed very happy - not stressed at all. The dogs got to get our each day to explore the ranch -- what I'm presuming was a "bucket list item" for them. As a dog owner and lover -- you just know if you dogs were okay while they were in the kennel -- I knew the moment I saw them that they had done great. Will certainly use them again. I was excited to host my daughters birthday at this location. I spoke to Teresa two times and she promised she would call me back to makes sure the date in May I wanted was possible. 3 days passed by and I got no phone call until I call her back. She still didn't have a response for me but she did offered other dates. I asked if my husband and I could go and see the location and she said we could go. I drove 30 min and even took my daughter so she can see horse while we were there. It was a little hard to find the entrance of the place at first but we eventually found it on the side of the place. It took us a few min to get down the car and set the stroller and then figure out where to go. When we did there was no one at a "guest house". We had to talk around the building and after a few steps we saw a gentlemen and we ask for help/directions. He's answer? Do you to speak with Teresa and he pointed at where we needed to go. I'm sure we looked confused and he got up and walk all fast in front of us. We met a lady who she covered her mouth while talking to this guy and she said to us, didn't you see the guest house??? We said yes and then she walk by us and told us to follow us. Again she was walking fast in front of us. We had a stroller so we couldn't go as fast as she was. After we finally made it to the "guest house" all she said was "this is what you would get and the pointed at a playground a tables outside. Then she got a phone call and said fell free to look. After 10 min from us standing there, alone with so many questions we walked away. Mind you we had our daughter and we took us about 10 min to get back in the car and put the stroller back. She finally came back and asked if we had any questions... We said no because we felt we were an inconvenience for them. I'm so disappointed at the service we received but I'm glad we won't host the birthday party there. I could only imagine the "customer service experience" we would get.
