Years before was a plate of deep fried squash flowers and a soup that was of the gods I was sure. While the service was still impeccable, the wait staff struggled to carry over a ridiculously huge sandwich board that now serves as a menu. The offerings on said board were unbelievable. All things I could buy from any street vendor or could have asked a talented 8 year old to prepare for me. The drinks are yummy but when you charge 5 star prices you'd better be delivering more than Paul's Diner! Also... The bar used to be beautiful! Whoever "renovated" it?... Well... Then, allow the friendly staff to bring as many items from the menu as you can handle. Come with a group so you can share. An absolute must is the whole fish done à la Contramar, one side of the split fish coated in a punchy parsley sauce and the other in a red adobo rub. Served with flour tortillas (which are refillable) and black bean dip, you'll be instructed how to compose perfect bites. Then, choose your own adventure! We also had both the 4 piece each shrimp tostadas and tuna tostadas. Radically different so getting both doesn't duplicate. The pasta (spaghettini) with clams was buttery and garlicky and the pasta was surprisingly not overcooked. Biggest surprise was the grilled soft shell crabs (with corn tortillas). They came pre cut then reassembled so it was easy to pick them up and pop them in your mouth. The grill flavor was fantastic and we were all impressed. We finished with a slice of coconut cake which was like a caramel coated macaroon. Perfect! Large wine list by the glass and bottle, many cocktails, sangria and beer to choose from. Definitely a place to visit when in Mexico City. Sorry for the lack of photos-- we forgot because we dove into each dish (we were hungry and they looked so good)! Got one good one though...

My friends and I went to La Cueva for some cocktails and dinner. This is a cocktail bar with no restaurant-style seating. So we filled up on small plates of ceviche, tostadas de atun, and guacamole (with chapulines on the side for the skurd Americanos). I'm not a huge fan of chapulines (grasshoppers) but La Cueva makes the best I've tasted to date! They must be seasoned in soy sauce or Maggi's.... delicioso! We had three craft cocktails (really, four, because one specific drink was BOGO), three apps; and our bill was $50. Well worth the food/drink/service/atmosphere and experience.
