El Caballito Del Mar (the Seahorse) was great fun with very tasty food.
It's was late. We were hungry and looking for a quick meal after the bioluminescent experience in la Parguera bay. The previous night we had walked by El Caballito on our way home from "downtown." Only locals. No tourists. Dive bar vibe.
The menu is painted on a board. The woman at the counter was helpful. Two empanadillas + two beers.
A digression. If you're familiar with Argentine empanadas, this is the PR version. A filling inside a dough wrapper. In Argentina the empanadas are pretty smalll -- you can eat three -- and they're baked. In PR the empanadillas are huge -- one is plenty -- and are fried.
The shrimp empanadilla was the best. It arrived quickly and was burn your mouth hot. Good music on the sound system. And very inexpensive.
Note: El Caballito only takes cash. No credit cards. And zero tourists except us. Think of it as the Waffle House of la Parguera. read more
