This restaurant is great. The atmosphere is quaint and charming. The food was awesome. I ordered nachos with chicken. My hubby had the taco salad with steak. I'll start with the good. Walked in and was served immediately. I was getting a to go order of a burrito and fries. Food was prepared quickly and the restaurant seemed to be a nice place to grab a bite to eat & a drink, but didn't stay. The not so good. The server that handed me my food, not the same person who had taken the order, was rude. I was sitting at the to go high top potentially waiting. I was the only one at this table. She yelled out "Yo"! and handed me the bag, and immediately turned around to walk away. No "thank you" or making sure what I'd ordered was correct. The bad. The burrito barely had any steak inside. Seriously like maybe four small pieces. It was stuffed with just the fillers, beans, rice etc. No sour-cream as ordered and the order of fries was a kids size at best. I was seeking a burrito like El Paraiso in Elgin has but was in Crystal Lake. It would've been worth the drive to Elgin. Much bigger burritos, large order of fries and includes a drink at El Paraiso. Soooo good! My daughter ordered the quesadilla plate with chicken and she said the flavor was really, really good. I had the taco dinner (2 chicken, 1 beef) and the meat was soooo flavorful! All of the ingredients were fresh and delicious (even the refried beans, which I normally don't eat, were good!), the restaurant was clean, and the service was friendly. Every time I come here, I'm always surprised by how incredible the food is, especially for the reasonable price. My go to is the chicken enchiladas, served with rice and beans. the shrimp was perfectly fine but according to the server and cook the peppers and onion always look like this unless asked to not be well done. Overall the staff were wearing masks properly, except of course the woman taking payment and handling my order. That was disappointing. Glad to see the chefs wearing masks and the other server doing so. I wouldn't go inside during dinner again. Customers just come in without masks to dine. Very rude. Horrible experience today. Stopped by with my dad to get lunch. Went in and ordered 5 tacos to begin with. Get my food and walk out. Grabbing the container the way the worker gave it to me. I get back to my shop and open to find 4 tacoa. 3 perfect tacos and another of just tortillas with no meat whatsoever. I go back to complain. Showed the waiter that attended me. He went to show the cook who is probably the owner. Cook right away got a lil offensive saying he put 4 in there all with meat. That I must have flipped the container over. But yet all the other 3 tacos were perfect for some reason. Told him I didn't flip anything over that if I did the other tacos wouldn't be perfect. He pretty much said don't come here with your bs. We really liked this place for Mexican food. But the past 2 times they have messed my order up. When we called they said we would have a credit on account for the next time. Well the next time came and they told us there was no credit to be used we still ordered and paid full price only to have then mess it up again. Perhaps if the cook wasn't drinking while trying to cook orders maybe there would be no mistakes. Needless to say when I called to say my meal was not correct they argued with me. When you go to El Burrito, here's what you can expect: The typical refried beans and rice along side standard Mexican fare such as tacos, enchiladas, burritos, etc. However, the taste of the food exceeds that of most Mexican restaurants I have been to. It definitely isn't a grilled-shrimp-marinated-in-lime-and-cilantro-hoity-toity Mexican restaurant, but it offers some of the best tasting traditional Mexican food around. The value is tremendous. My husband and I just had dinner and margaritas, and our bill was $19.00!!! Monday and Tuesdays are $1.99 margarita nights. They are good, strong margaritas too! The guacamole is very good, and they have great Horchata too. I would recommend it for a night when you just don't feel like cooking, but you also don't want to spend a ton of money eating out. After 15 years of going here, I am finally getting around to writing a review of el Burrito. Lets get the bad stuff out of the way first -- The place looks like a dive. It is situated in a corner of a dying strip mall and the bathrooms can be dirty at times. Occasionally the wait staff have a difficult time with the English language. That said, the food is outstanding! Only a fool would go to a place called el Burrito without trying the burritos. The burritos are massive. All the other menu items I've tried have been excellent as well. Everything is fresh and homemade. Prices are more than reasonable. The best part is the $1.99 Margaritas every Monday and Tuesday night! If you are looking for some excellent and authentic Mexican food, give el Burrito a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

The only item I've found to be disappointing was the rabbit - you could tell it was frozen, not fresh. I was hesitant because I've seen those frozen monstrosities and did not want that at all. But our server seemed pretty happy about them so I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm very happy that I did. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, good food. Great amount for food for your money. I haven't been able to finish my meal either time I've been. I believe you have to pay for a 2nd bowl of chips and salsa, but I don't know why you would need that 2nd bowl. No complaints about service, actually I would commend them because my husband and I are NOT the fastest decision makers and they've been quite patient with us.
