I've passed by this restaurant dozens of times, though it's tucked away in a small strip mall, so I forget about it when I'm thinking of a nice Mexican spot to go to. First things first. The food is awesome and all of the sauces and even the chorizo is made in house. I'm sure there are other items that are homemade as well, but we haven't gotten there yet. :) We shared a Suizo Burrito (homemade suizo sauce) with steak and it was incredible. It is not an exaggeration for me to say that this is my favorite suizo sauce ever. The density of the sauce isn't runny like most others and the texture is almost that of chili (but not too thick), which means a solid flavor with every bite. We also loved the homemade guacamole and horchata, which is unlimited refills! We had long conversations with the owners and employees and they were super kind and loved sharing all the unique elements of their restaurant. We'll definitely be back soon! read more

I stopped in on a Tuesday afternoon when it wasn't very busy and ordered the chicken Suizo Burrito. The restaurant was clean and festive for the holidays. I was able to watch it being made fresh on the spot, and the guy preparing it did a phenomenal job. We have eaten here many, many times. My son LOVES the Carne Azada Fries so we visit every few months so he can cure his craving. We stopped in on a late Sunday afternoon after a long 9 day road trip. We knew there was nothing in the fridge and Amuzgo is close to home and after eating a lot of different meals on our trip, we just wanted something familiar to us. My son ordered the Carne Azada fries, of course and a kids quesadilla. I can't remember what my husband ordered but he has his favorites too. My daughter had the nachos, her fave. I have some weird eating things going on and I don't eat much. I asked for a kids burrito with no meat, just beans, cheese and sour cream. Since it was a kids meal, it came with fries that I gave to my husband. My speciality bean burrito was awesome! We had the chile rellenos, which were cooked perfectly, not greasy, and the portion was generous. The steak tacos were very hearty and delicious as well. Picked up a large order of assorted entrees yesterday for a family gathering, and Silvino took care to make sure the entire order was correct and gave us plenty of green sauces we requested (highly recommend!) The chocolate churros were freshly fried and the filling was still warm biting into them a couple hours later. I was craving Mexican food one evening and decided to give this new local place a try based on the reviews that I've read. Unfortunately, I was not as impressed as other reviewers. I really wanted to like the food as I was hoping that this would be our new local place for some good Mexican food. Sadly the food was not really good and did not leave a good impression. We placed a pick-up order through DoorDash. The order was ready in time and was waiting for me once I got there. But once we started eating the food our enthusiasm started to disappear. It was really bland and uninspired. But what really disappointing me was the salsa. It was as if it was diluted with water. The sauces - red, green, and spicy - were all fresh and flavorful. The homemade chips and guac were perfect for anyone (spiceheads like me can modify with said sauce). And the burrito I had was perfectly sized. I wanted for nothing more. But sometimes it is when you want for nothing that you're given the finest gifts. In this case, churros. Warm, delicious churros filled with jelly. They're big enough to split, but no one will judge you for taking one down all by yourself. There just may be another star waiting to hit for them, but until I dine again, this is a resounding four. *Or of anyone at all. Service was fine, as in friendly. I was there at the indicated time. 3 minutes later I take a bite and the food was cold. When did they make it I wondered. It's a nice place, but I am starting to understand that with prices rising nobody else was there at a prime time in the evening. I saw Amuzgo's Facebook post this morning showing a pic of the enchiladas with salsa verde (green sauce) and had to go. I've been meaning to try this restaurant ever since he left the restaurant in palatine and opened this one. We were so impressed with the food, the service and the value for the money. The salsa verde was incredibly fresh and delicious! I asked for carnitas in my enchiladas and my bf had the chicken. Both were so tender and not at all dry like some other restaurants. I moved here from California about 3 years ago and have missed authentic Mexican food. This was far better than anything I ordered in CA. The restaurant is right next to Starbucks so you won't miss it, even though they only have a banner for signage. It's tucked away in a little strip mall and if you see the Starbucks sign, turn in. The lettuce was crisp with the freshest toppings including the guacamole - sooooo goood! 2nd visit - Chimichanga - large enough for 2 or 3! STUFFED fat with filling, toppings so fresh, they had to have been chopped just moments before they were served and that guacamole - sooooooo goooood!! Based on the reviews I had high hopes. I was very disappointed to see a cafeteria style service that felt like a cross between Taco Bell and Chipotle. The only thing that is warmed / cooked fresh is the tortillas. Although authentic tacos adds a little oil to the tortillas as they warm them up which does not happen here. It makes all the difference believe it or note. The rest of the meats have been sitting in containers "cafeteria / buffet" style (I don't know for how long). But my tacos were luke warm. An authentic taqueria experience should make your taco on the spot, sizzling off the griddle or grill. I was disappointed. To their credit, the toppings were fresh and their Salsa are pretty good. They are definitely the nicest most courteous people. They make you feel welcome and are very accommodating and prices were reasonable. Though I no longer live in the area, this has become my go-to place for dinner when working on my rental property still in the area. The owner (Silveno???) is extremely helpful, and even remembered what I liked from a previous visit two weeks earlier! Their chimichangas are amazing, and large enough for 2+ meals! I made one of them last for 3 small meals, and the flavors just kept fresh and strong over 2 days! Don't worry if you only want a little - take the rest home for breakfast or lunch the next day. ;-) The prices are also in line. The burrito and chimichanga are both in line with other Mexican restaurants, but the flavors and welcome make this place that little bit better! Mexican food can easily be made vegetarian or vegan but some restaurants will still give you a hard time. The crew at Amuzgo is friendly and very helpful if you tell them you don't eat meat or dairy. This is a hidden gem!! My husband and I tried this place last night for the first time. I'm sorry we didn't know about it sooner. The food is truly excellent. I'm sure everything we ate was from scratch. The couple that owns this restaurant are very nice and are really excited about the quality of food they serve. I ordered chicken enchiladas with verde and my husband ordered chicken tacos. The owner, Sol says do you like Mexican sausage? I make my own! Try this! We both tried his chorizo and it was excellent!! So my husband actually changed his order to chorizo tacos! So, as we're waiting for our food for takeout, Sol says, do you like mole'? I said oh yes I do. So, he hands me a whole barbacoa enchilada with mole' to try! Omg! We both said omg, Amazing! And again, obviously from scratch. My enchiladas were already being made so we ended up ordering a third dinner, enchiladas with mole' to save for later. Yes! It was that good!! Their beans are definitely made from scratch as well.
