STAY AWAY!!!!! Went here for my birthday. Ordered a chicken burrito that came with grilled peppers and onions. The onions in the first bite were burned totally black. I tried to eat more to see if it was just in one spot or part of the burrito.I tried several bites but the entire flavor was of burned, charred food. When the server came back and asked how everything was I told her the food was not good and showed her the totally charred onions. She said "okay, I will take it off of your bill." I said thank you and she took the plate away. I sat there eating nothing while my husband finished his meal. Left with a nasty burn after taste in my mouth. At the register, the same lady who told me she would take the meal off of the bill informed me the cook has said I had to pay 1/2 because I had eaten about 1/2 of the burrito. I told her I only did that hoping it would get better and it did not. I told her it was my birthday and it was not a good experience, and that it was incredulous to me any owner or manager of a business who KNEW he sent that burned food out to a table would take such a position. She said she would go back to the cook again. I told her I would like to speak to him directly. I was never rude. Unbelievably, she came back and said the cook said "next time send the food back sooner." Yes, he said this. Not even an apology for the crap he sent to our table. I told her I had no need to come to that restaurant and eat some of my food, send it back and then try to get to get it for free. I was never offered a replacement. I told her there was a distinct difference between grilled onions and BURNED TO CRISP onions. I understand that this does happen at times, but this was our first and will be our last. I am sure others have wonderful experiences here, but having to be lectured by a server was both distasteful and a big turn off for us. Beware if you go here, they are more interested in your money than your enjoyment of a well cooked and delicious meal. And they do NOT understand the me and of hospitality. read more

Everybody here has great customer service. The food is so good. I have tried their burritos and their tacos, and I have been impressed with both. We never had grilled fish before so when my youngest ordered it I had to try it and it was amazing. Been wanting to stop in and try this place for the last few months and finally made it by. My girls wanted Mexican for our daddy/daughter dinner so we gave it a shot. From the minute we walked in, while nice, the staff seemed indifferent and less friendly than the usual Mexican establishment. We ordered our food (nothing crazy) and it took quite a while to actually get our food. We ran out of chips and salsa and were never offered or brought any more. When the food did arrive, it was hot and fresh but rather bland. My oldest daughter ordered a taco salad and I had the ACP and both were just basic run of the mill entrees. I was really hoping this place would be a new hidden gem for us but not sure I will be scrambling to get back here anytime soon. I definitely want to give it another shot though. read more

Huge portions! I guess that's all that matters to most. I've ordered from here twice and both times it was disappointing in terms of quality & flavor. Today it was the Texican Fajitas. Oh, my, gosh. The onions and peppers were a mass of squishy blackness - cooked to death! The protein... couldn't tell the chicken from the steak, it was all the same dark color and all small, small bits, salty but otherwise flavorless. There was hardly any shrimp - it was hard to find in the large pile of darkness. 3 tortillas for the portion size was unreasonable. And this time they forgot the tortilla chips. El Burrito Loco just moved into this new location which is just about maybe a 1/4 mile down the street from the old location which was in a different strip shopping center than where they are now, still on same side of road. I've been here a few times since they moved into the new spot, the food has been really good on my visits. A couple of my favorites here are the chicken nachos and the Super Alambre made with al pastor. The chicken nachos were great, the plate of nachos were loaded with flavorful shredded chicken topped with beans, cheese, pico de gallo, jalapeños, sour cream and guacamole. The Super Alambre was a monster plate of al pastor cooked with bacon, onions, peppers and spices served with rice, beans, guacamole and a little salad with tortillas on the side. read more

This small Mexican restaurant is located in the middle of a small strip center, and the exterior sign is rather hard to see from Church Street, but finding it is worth the effort. The space is narrow, rather compressed feeling, but it is bright & clean, and very colorfully decorated, with Mexican themed murals and pictures of entrees on the walls. They've been serving very, very good Tex-Mex (and a few authentic Mexican dishes, such as Molcajete and Carnitas) since 2012, and probably has flown a little under the radar. We settled on the Carnitas dinner (my litmus test for quality Mexican/Tex-Mex food) and the Enchilada dinner, with 2 chicken enchiladas with Verde Sauce, rice, beans, lettuce & tomato with sour cream. The Carnitas came with rice and beans, as well, and with pico de gallo, & tortillas of your choice. While waiting for our entrees, we enjoyed the usual complimentary chips and salsa.Both were nice and fresh, the salsa is chunky with a very nice taste of onion and cilantro, but little heat. The meals were out of the kitchen quickly, and the portions were very, very nice - a take out box would definitely be required for us. The chicken enchiladas were nice, loaded with moist, well marinated, shredded meat, and covered in a sharp verde sauce, the tomatillo influence undeniable. These enchilada featured corn tortillas, but I think the chicken is bettered showcased with flour tortillas. The carnitas were simply superb -coarsely chopped, full of flavor, tender & moist, perfectly cooked to a nice outside crust, and served with a chunky pico de gallo, made nicely hot with plenty of jalapenos. A flour tortilla loaded with chunks of the delicious pork and topped with plenty of the pico was as good as this dish gets. The rice and beans were both much better than average - both were seasoned well, something that is not always paid attention to in Mexican restaurants, especially the rice -in fact, the rice reminded me very much of that served at Los Gordos in Greensboro, the flavor rising above that of a simple side dish. The service was all it should - efficient, friendly, and attentive. This is good food, nicely prepared with fresh ingredients, beautifully plated, and served with care. This is more than "a drop in if near place", this is a destination Mexican restaurant for us, right up there with our 3 or 4 favorites in the Greensboro area. And they open at 10 AM each day, so an early start is possible. read more

My go-to for Mexican food is usually La Cocina, but after trying El Burrito Loco, I believe this is my new favorite place to eat at for Mexican food. I wouldn't say that anything was THAT stand out-ish, but the queso dip had much more flavor than most of the other places in Burlington, and the salsa was fantastic! The restaurant was very clean and the service was great. Our server was very attentive and patient with my wants. I cannot wait to visit again! Best Mexican food restaurant I've had in Burlington. Authentic and fresh. I'll be honest, I really only come here on $1 taco Tuesdays. Chicken is juicy and perfectly marinated. Al pastor (pork) is my roommates favorite. They have a gigantic taco for less than $10. If you come in, they have pictures of customers who took on that monster! Friendly, fast, family owned business. I say if you are feeling like having Mexican food, this is the best place to go in the area. So we got the Texas fajitas with a shrimp ,steak ,and chicken, Not only were we charged a $1.50 for extra for 3 shells .. Then I ask for the chips and salsa- that we always get and the ladies like, oh it's $2.60 plus tax.. So im like forget it;so I ended up coming home- we get the food open it an its cold- an a tiny spoon full of rice an bean dip.. And to top it off; My husband tried it order online to get the 5% off- calls it in- and they say we don't even do online ordering, sounds like someone needs to delete the website then cause a lot of people trying to order online. And then we call back they say they're gonna give us a refund to keep the food.And to top it off; you know that she didn't give me the receipt . Then she calls back don't forget to bring the food -while we are driving back..that she said throw away, an now she calls back an says she talked to her Supervisor and he said get it out of trash and bring it back to get our refund. Stopped thru here again while out car shopping the other night and reaffirmed how great this place is. I had the camarones ala diabla which was a decent portion of medium shrimp simmered in a really spicy red sauce. It came with rice, beans and a small salad of lettuce, tomato and avocado. Also a few of their wonderful corn tortillas. My friend that was driving me around opted for the appetizer of mini taquitos with beef inside. It came with a small bed of lettuce, sour cream and guac I think. She thought it was terrific. My wife and I ate here on 6-2-17 for dinner. Food: My wife had the chicken and steak chimichanga meal and I had 3 beef tacos and rice. She liked her food and found it filling. Mine was filling but bland and almost forgettable. For Gringo Mexican food, it was average at best and stereotypical tasteless GM at worst. Service: While fast and friendly, our waitress barely knew English and had to have a minor communicate with customers at the register. Prices: If the food was better, great. Our first experience with this local restaurant in Elon, NC- We eat out often - & if there were a zero star rating that would be our rating- First of all the take-out order was short of one of our items. After arriving home we realized we were missing the chicken/cheese quesadilla. Then I called the restaurant back to inform them of their oversight & the woman on the phone wanted to argue with me about how she specifically recalled not reading back the quesadilla to me, yet she recalled me ordering the quesadilla & then proceeds to ask me if we still wanted it. We then had to drive back to get the missing item. By the way I had went over the items over the phone with her 2x. Unfortunately, the food was less than our hunger filled expectations. The refried beans were the consistency of gravy & everything else was extremely less than sub-par. The salsa was very watery & too thin & the guacamole was bland & unappealing. HORRIBLE experience. On top of all that after being told that we could use our Attractions coupon, (for five bucks off the purchase of two entres, btw it had no restrictions regarding dine in only) after arriving - she told me that it could not be used for take out orders- Really disappointed since this is about 2 miles from our home- Taco Tuesday! UGH! The dollar tacos were clearly over priced as the questionable meat found wrapped inside the tortilla shell had the common appearance, texture, & aroma of wet pet food. We had gone into Burlington to enjoy the Northern Tool Cruise In car show, do a little outlet shopping, etc., and we decided to stop in El Burrito Loco for dinner based on good Yelp reviews. We both love Mexican food and this seemed like our kind of spot. Nothing fancy, but really good food, and Yelpers, you were absolutely on point with this little place. We were warmly welcomed and service was very friendly. The only issue with the service was that our nacho appetizer and our entrees all arrived at our table at the same time. Not a big deal, it's a casual spot and sometimes these things happen, but we usually do like to have our appetizer before the meal. With that corrected I would have given a half star more. That being said, those nachos were really, really good. Plenty of cheese, refried beans, tomatoes, jalapenos, guacamole and sour cream on crispy chips. Entrees - My fella got the Carlos Especial burrito and I got the 3 taco meal. He really liked that burrito, Rice, cheese, poblano, like a chile relleno in burrito form - scrumptious. I had 1 chicken and 2 carnitas tacos. My oh my those carnitas were right up there with the best I've ever had, and the chicken was delicious as well. The refried beans were pretty good as well. We usually go for black beans, but these refried were not heavy at all, and the rice was fluffy and flavorful. In our experience it's always these small strip mall taquerias that have the best food, and El Burrito Loco proves that premise once again. When in Burlington we will probably always make this a part of our day. It's a happy place with happy food. I'm looking forward to trying it again. read more

I don't know why it's taken me this long to finally try this place, but now that we have, it's a keeper! The only regret I have from our first time here is that the Facebook page didn't have the complete menu, and I didn't know they had camarones diablo (my favorite Mexican dish). Oh well, it'll just be an excuse to go back, and I am definitely planning on it! The Bistec a la Mexicana (steak strips in a spicy chipotle-style sauce with onions, jalapenos, and tomatoes) was simply wonderful. I had a burrito dinner with steak in my burrito. It came with rice, beans, cheese, lettuce, tomato, sour cream. The portions were generous and the price very reasonable. The seating is simple and the capacity is less than 50 people. We were seated quickly and the salsa and chips were very tasty. The menu was a little confusing but it makes sense eventually. Our food was prepared quickly and it was hot. She offered hot sauce but she brought some green stuff that was so mild it was like ketchup. I used the red stuff that was in a jar already on the table. Calling all Texans - this place is legit! My partner and I drove the half hour from Durham to try this place out because, upon perusing the pics of their dishes, I discovered that they make their enchiladas verde in the manner I am accustomed (and c-r-a-v-e). For some reason, enchiladas verde here in NC is often served with shredded lettuce and chopped tomatoes on top - almost like you get a little salad on your 'chiladas. In Texas, enchiladas verde = a piping hot lake of green sauce with an island of enchiladas dead center, covered in a blanket of white melty cheese. The whole thing is hot, hot, hot - molten if you are at the right place. So the salad on top thing really throws me. Anyway, I digress... So we head out to Burlington cuz I gotta have them enchiladas... Hopes were high, and expectations were met. This place rocks it. The only reason I didn't give five stars is that my plate was melamine and ice cold - food hot, dish cold. No, no, no. It all needs to be scalding - to the point that the server warns you with a "hot plate, don't touch" disclaimer as the volcanic goodness arrives before you. I digress again... So this place - it's good. Yeah. It's good. Homemade tortillas, properly fried chile rellenos, brilliant red sauce on the enchiladas rojo. Wish it was closer, but damn - I'll make the drive. (And btw, you eat the whole "Burrito Loco - about the size of your forearm - and you get your photo up on the wall, right near the register. Great salsa as soon as you sit down is one part of what makes this spot one of my favorite lunch break locations- I'm usually starving. While the food is pretty standard Mexican fare, it's always tasty and fresh, service is always fast and friendly. They have excellent specials like dollar authentic tacos. Mmmm this place in my option is the best I've had in Burlington. It's better than cancun beside Walmart ,la Cocina in the mall and la fiesta all combined. But seriously there is something different about the food, it tastes more fresh and it is just amazing all around. I had the taco lunch special I got one hard and one soft taco both beef. The beef was very flavorful and looked really fresh and made with love it had nice color not just plain ole grilled beef. The rice was very authentic and the beans were the best i ever had. Tried this place a few days ago after driving to a favorite (Fiesta Grill in Chapel Hill) only to find them closed for vacation. Yelp to the rescue! We arrived right around noon & the place was almost full; we snagged a table by the front door. We both got the carnitas tacos with cilantro & lime. They were ok, but just not the most flavorful in the world. Even the cilantro was muted for some reason...maybe my tastebuds were on strike?! Anyway, we left full & received good service.
