El Balcón De Rosina (Rosina's Balcony) is in the Plaza Alfaro, on the corner of the "Romeo and Juliet" Building.
This is the balcony that Beaumarchais referred to in "The Barber of Seville." This is the balcony that Fígaro climbs.
Legend also has it that this inspired the balcony scene in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, but any student of Shakespeare knows he never traveled to Seville (and printing was not popular enough for him to have seen an image of it), so while this may look perfect for the play's set (and the Bard may well have loved to use it), it was not the actual inspiration for the playwrite.
The Plaza Alfaro square is located in a ritzy part of Seville, bordering the Murillo Gardens, with direct accesses to Plaza de Santa Cruz. We were alerted to the balcony because there was a group of Asian tourists staring up at it, taking pics and video, while their guide went on and on with a story.
The balcony is pretty, but just for picture-taking. There is no museum, nor ticketing to go up there and look out at the flocks of other tourists. read more
