The Cathedral, including the Giralda, was registered in 1987 as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, along with the Alcázar and the General Archive of the Indies. It remains one of the most important symbols of the city, as it has been since the Middle Ages. The tower is one of the most famous monuments of Moorish architecture in Spain and one of the most refined examples of Almohad architecture. Highly recommend climbing to the top to get the most amazing 360 view of Seville. They don't have stairs - instead it's a paved incline that have 35 ramps and then a few stairs at the top ... each floor is marked so you can see your progress. It's not an easy climb - the windows along the way is a great place to catch your breath :) I read that the ramps were built to allow the Sultan to ascend mounted on horseback to see the beautiful view. Your entrance fee to the Seville Cathedral includes the bell tower. Oh, and be warned when the bell towers ring, they are super loud - like I thought I might have gone deaf, lol. I visited during the winter so it was cool inside but during the summer, I heard it gets hot & stuffy ... one of the reviews recommended visiting first thing in the morning.

Since this is slightly off the tourist trail-- though one does see tour groups pass through-- be prepared to request an audio guide (they offer it in six languages). The guard will give you both a guide and a sheet of paper that indicates what the guide covers-- unlike many of the audio guides in other Sevillan sites, this one is particularly good, and offers rich historical context situating Santa Caridad in the moment it was constructed. Cost: 5E/person.

There was so much going on in the Plaza that it's well worth a stop…read more The Plaza was maintained long after the 1929 Iberian-American Exhibition wrapped up and fun to explore. We especially enjoyed seeing the different details and content represented in the 52 provincial alcoves. We crisscrossed the canal as we watched rental boats paddle by, horse drawn carriages picked up and dropped off in plaza and the flamenco dancers, musicians and bubble makers. The short walk up to the second floor also provided another perspective to take it all in. Definitely one of the must sees while visiting Seville.

Leaving a foot print on a trip that was taken in the past. One of top tourist things to do while…read moreSeville and almost missed it. While at the Alcazar Palace waiting to be picked up by the tour bus, Las Setas was only 15 minutes away. Using the Google map, hurried thru the maze of people and stores, it was amazing to see this scene. I did not get a chance to visit the Roman ruins, fig tree or roof top walk way. Will be back to fully experience this area.

The lighting at night was a bit underwhelming as it seemed like some of the bulbs needed to be replaced? An archeological museum, Antiquarium, was located underneath which contained Roman ruins, mosaics and it was free to enter by showing your Alcázar ticket. At the ground level were restaurants but we did not enter. One level up was the more popular spot with the "I Sevilla" which attracted more people than we saw walking above on Las Setas. There was an admission to walk on the parasol but due to the rain and overcast weather we skipped it. Overall quick stop if you're visiting this area of Seville.

Guided tour was definitely the best way to visit this amazing cathedral…read more We met in the designated guided tour entrance which was along Av. De La Constitución. We booked the English tour at 15:30 and that would last for about 1.5 hours. Nestor was our guide and met everyone outside. He was a great source of information throughout this tour, patient and also made sure all of our questions were answered. The tour took a limited number of visitors and brought us into areas not accessible on the regular admission including the choir and the largest main altar in the world. The main altar was just amazing to see and it was even larger than the one we saw years ago at the cathedral primada in Toledo. We also viewed one of the most famous occupants in the Cathedral, the monumental tomb to Christopher Columbus. When the tour ended he also brought some of the group over to the entrance to the Giralda, bell tower, to climb the ramps all the ways to the top. Unfortunately by that hour it was hailing and pouring rain so it was difficult to take in the above views of Seville. We did come back the next morning to partake in mass which took place before the general admission. It was a unique experience made even better with the accompanying choir with the organ. This was also the only time one could see the Chapel of Santa Maria de la Antigua before the curtains were drawn across the gate.
