New York bagels meet Miami! I just came across this little bagel shop and decided to give it a try. The bagels are so fresh and the selection of cream cheeses is great. They also have tons of sandwich options and coffee drinks as well. I highly recommend keeping it simple with an everything bagel toasted with garlic chive cream cheese. EL BAGEL IS THE BEST BAGEL SPOT IN MIA! There is unfortunately always a line but do not let that deter you (I just come earlier). They have an incredible variety of bagels and shmears and dips. Their sandwiches are also phenomenal. But every bagel is packed with flavor, they are light, have a great crust, and honestly toasted to perfection every time! The bagels are reasonably priced and their coffees are pretty decent too (but I wouldn't come here just for the latte). If you have a lot of sandwiches to order, do so ahead of time because it can take a while. There is additional parking in the back and some spots out front but I've never had any issue finding some. This is because they make what they have fresh daily, which I can definitely appreciate! Service was awesome, we were running a bit late and got to the store about 15-10 minutes before they closed and they were not rude in any way. The staff didn't rush us, they took our order and were very friendly about it too! I also really enjoyed the front patio area, I thought that was a nice touch for customers to eat their food there. There is a small parking lot out front shared with the other shops but also a lot of street parking conveniently nearby. I ordered a Too Good To Go bag and when I got there it was all packaged and ready for me. The bagels were fresh and flavorful. The lady, (manager/owner maybe) who welcomed me was very pleasant. This latest time I ordered a BEC on an everything bagel. The bagel was chewy almost stale like they microwaved it, and the bacon was fatty. It's always packed when I go and that almost always means waiting longer than they estimate which I wouldn't mind if the sandwich was bomb. The staff though is very pleasant and helpful. They were steady but not busy. I placed an order for three plain, toasted, bacon, egg, and cheese. I received them a short time later and began to eat mine in the car. My take on the bagel was it was good but not the most amazing bagel I have ever had. I found myself needing more napkins than I ever imagined. They put so much cheese on it that it overpowers the taste and the possible quality of the food/ingredients. The cheese was literally so messy; it was the messiest bagel sandwich I have ever eaten. As I ate it, I wondered where all the bacon was. It seemed as if the bacon was rationed, and not much was placed on there. I did have other people with me, and their bagels were the same. They only ate half of their bagels as they refused to eat the rest due to being mostly cheese-tasting and the mess. Would I eat here again, nah I would pass. I went back to el bagel a year after having a less than great experience and I am happy to say it's one of the best bagels in Miami and closest to a New York bagel. The service is amazing and the Casher at the front from New Jersey is hilarious. They changed the inside configuration and it's much better! More space. It's not meant for eating in (by design) it's a grab and go eatery. Hard to find parking at the Miami shores location. I typically get a sesame bagel scooped toasted with scallion shmear and lox. El Bagel..literally translates to "The" bagel. After finally checking it out today, I can see that yes the hype is real. Let me explain, I've seen more than a few pictures from friends including our CM Farah of these loaded and colorful bagels. However, I'm usually on the other end of town at their open hours I simply hadn't been able to go. Fast forward to some end of the year PTO Friday. I was nearby for errands and finally yes I was able to go. It's a cozy storefront almost like the ventanita of lore. You either order online or on site and get your order to go. Though geared toward the latter, there are 3 benches outside where you can indulge. The attendant was pleasant in explaining their product, and she was on point with the recommendation of their B.E.C. (Bacon Egg & Cheese) bagel. I also picked up some iced coffee, though I believe they sell rose or other bevvies (next time). My bagel had a substantial cross section, and with being lightly toasted, a good texture. It was loaded with a big runny egg, melted cheese and gloriously crispy bacon. So much so that I needed a fork to clean some that was on the wrapper after indulging their yummy carbs. Being a dessert fiend I do wish they had they had some sweet /fruity bagels or cream cheese and thus I'm dinging a 1/2 star but El Bagel has definitely earned a spot in my weekend brunch spot list. read more
