So out of the local spots trying to make Puerto Rican food none of them so far none can top this place. The service was excellent friendly and it's like you're talking to a friend. It's outdoor seating only. It sits on the corner. Across from. The river off of Jefferson. The music was giving la isla del encanto! From the papa rellena to the pernil everything we had was hot and had excellent flavor you can tell it was cooked with love. Definitely will be back again! read more

Ended up stopping in just before 8pm and was greeted by the owner himself he told me that they were unfortunately closed but the amazing staff offered to still take my order and while I waited me and the owner had conversation like we have been friends forever when I finally got to taste the food the flavor were crazy if I could give 6 stars I would this is a MUST try read more

Authentic Puerto Rican food and just like the dishes I grew up with! We got arroz con gandules, a pastelle, a pork chop with white rice & beans, maduros (fried sweet plantains), and mofongo with pork. Everything was flavorful and delicious!! The menu is clear and in both Spanish & English, and Alberto, the owner, is a cool and friendly guy. A few things to know: It's more like a stand than a restaurant so there's no indoor seating, only patio seating, they're only open Thursday - Sunday, and right now they only accept cash, Zelle or Cash App for payment. My gf and I got ours to go and tore into it at home! The servings were huge and we had plenty of leftovers so we're going to enjoy it again today! With so few Puerto Rican restaurants around, I hope people will discover this gem and support a unique local business. 10/10! Boricua!! read more

El Amanecer corner of Southfield and West Jefferson a block over. Beautiful view of the Detroit River across from the park. Hot n New Puerto Rican food Downriver, Authentic marvelous food. A scrumptious meal we ate on the patio, no inside dining room. Delightful Puerto Rican Rice Arroz con Gandules my addiction. Added a skewer each of Pork and Chicken fresh off the grill . Empanada de Pollo filled with shredded Chicken OMG best ever Eaten . Savory stuffed Papas Rellenas (Stuffed Potato Balls) filled with Beef holy Wowsa outstanding Delicious . Alcapurria is a popular fritter dish from Puerto Rico, truly a winner with the dipping sauce . Tried fantastic Puerto Rican Flan Dessert, Thanks Al for the treat. Phenomenal food, phenomenal service! We had the shish kabobs (pork and chicken--both amazing!), the arroz con gandules (so good and hearty and delicious), and the empanadillas (everything you want in fried pockets of food). The staff clearly cares about this place and the people who visit, and they're so warm and brilliant. The location is absolutely beautiful, and centrally-located in the middle of a sweet neighborhood! You want to check this place out. You need to check them out! FOOD was very good great flavor, when we got to the window the gentleman confused my sister while she was ordering trying to repeat the order he tried to convince her to eat something she didn't want just because it would be quicker, we ordered a total of 3 plates one with chicken and one with pork and one with bistek the guy taking the order never ordered the chicken plate because he was trying to get my sister to order something else , we also ordered alcapurrias and rellenos de papa, let me say they were very good so no complaints on the food, However we ordered one bistec ensebollado, one rice and beans with pork that we didnt eat because it was given to us after I mentioned we had one person that hadnt had her food yet so we took it home, and one rice with shrimp with 4 frituras, I ordered 5 sorullos de maiz and never got them but i was so upset at the service I remembered on the way home, 3 meal and 2 alcapurrias and 2 rellenos de papa with four drinks and only receiving 3 out of the 4 meal luckily my daughter ate from our plates. For a cost of $125.00 is a bit steep. For a Puerto Rican restaurant I expected a more Puerto Rican vibe instead they had a trumpet player playing old school jazz and as a salsa trumpet player myself that read and writes music the guy played the same notes on every track he played just slowed the tempo on slower songs and sped up on faster songs but the notes were the same. This was very disappointing. Unfortunately as a Puerto Rican that loves to support small business instead of the big chain restaurants I will not be returning with my family or recommending this place to anyone. read more

This little spot is beyond amazing. Alberto and his family know Puerto Rican food! I highly recommend anything off the menu. We not only had great food but he is an excellent host and the coolest guy I have met in a very long time (and we meet a lot of people, regularly). If you're afraid to practice ordering in Spanish, his English is beyond reproach. He also has a great Brooklyn accent and brings NY Puerto Rican food to the beautiful waterfront of Jefferson Avenue. This place is really special! A local treasure - for sure. I found it on a bike ride after work from Detroit. I took a friend there - and we were there just at closing due to my friend's work schedule. The owner was *so* accommodating. We got a real sampling of delicious dishes. And flan to boot!
