    Schilchersturm and Grießschmarren mit Hollerkoch
    Heying D.

It is a shame that I haven't been to the Eisgreissler as a Viennese. I was overjoyed to see that they had Schilchersturm which is a special young wine and only available in the fall. It was so so good. I also had Grießschmarren mit Hollerkoch which was good but not as good as Schilchersturm as it was a little bit too sweet and too rich for me. It was costly and I'm still debating whether the high price is worth the taste... I guess I have very high ice cream standards which only my favorite ice cream place in Vienna can fulfill...

Hazelnut flavor is to die for

The flavors are not in English but if you ask they will translate all the flavors for you! They're also nice enough to let you sample but keep it quick because there's usually a line out the door. The hazelnut flavor was to die for. I got it twice in two days :)

One of the best ice creams I've ever had IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD! Congrats, Eis-Greissler. You've made the top of this ice cream fanatic's list. Love at first (sample) bite. I walked in this small, cute shop and see 2 rows of ice cream before me. The staff was incredibly friendly (and good-looking ;D ). Since a lot of tourists come here, they usually translate all the flavors in one go. They also let my friend and I try a lot of flavors, including pumpkin seed oil, poppy seed, pistachio, hazelnut, etc. I seriously loved them all, especially pumpkin seed! I ended up getting a double scoop pumpkin seed oil and almond (my default favorite). If I could get a triple-scoop, or more flavors, I definitely would. But I was short on cash, and they don't accept card... Definitely come here if you're in Vienna!

Bottom to top: poppy seed + raspberry + PUMPKIN SEED OIL + vanilla!!

Without a doubt, the BEST ice cream I had while abroad! I taste tested in 10 different cities, and Eis-Greissler takes the number 1 spot! As someone who doesn't speak any German, I was overwhelmed and excited at all of the flavor options. The kind employees were really helpful with describing what they had and suggesting flavor pairings as well. PUMPKIN SEED OIL: Wow, I was blown away by this flavor! Pumpkin seed oil is special to this region of Austria and I was surprised by how rich it was. It had a lovely nutty taste and I was just so sad when it was gone. I could taste the freshness of the ingredients and couldn't believe how delicious it was. This flavor tastes amazing with either vanilla or chocolate, which they gave me a tiny scoop of to try it out! POPPY SEED: To balance out the creaminess of the pumpkin seed oil, I chose to get poppy seed as the other main flavor. It's so light and refreshing. I was recommended pairing it with the raspberry, and together, they create a lovely combination. To be honest, I still think of this ice cream 4 months later. I miss you. You're so perfect (AND CHEAP!!) Until we meet again!

    Butterkeks and Topfen-Heidelbeere

So, we know that Vienna is famous for its coffee houses, but do you also get good ice cream in the city? It's a fair question, and difficult to answer given that most travelers have a rosy perception of their experience... even if they're not sure what quality they are getting. But, careful research should indicate that the choice for favorite ice cream in Vienna often boils down into the argument of Tichy v/s Eis-Greissler. I was saving my stomach capacity for cakes, and so, could only visit Eis-Greissler. It was a fortuitous discovery on route to St. Stephen. There was a long line outside the shop, and while I expected a claustrophobic experience (the shop is what: 18 square meters?) I still got in the line. They do allow you to sample, but with a language barrier and many people behind you, I didn't feel tempted to experiment with the samples. I asked the server for guidance, and went with Butterkeks (butter cookie) and Topfen-Heidelbeere (blueberry yogurt). Quality gelato and sorbetto. Not as intense flavors as one would expect of gelato, but I did appreciate that they have their own farm and cows providing organic milk, a decent selection of vegan/gf flavors, and a focus of only using natural ingredients. Having fun with google translate, I did read their website in some detail, and was amused by their acknowledgment that their ice was not yet genuine organic ice because of EU standards. Pretty sure google translate is the one suggesting that ice can be organic... but, kudos for truth in advertising: another reason to support them compared to nearby vendors aggressively marketing their products.

Some of the best ice cream I have ever had, comparable to gelato in Italy and ice cream spots in NYC, if not better. We planned our dinner based on the proximity to this ice cream place. Right after dinner, we headed over and as other Yelpers have mentioned, flavors aren't in English, but they will gladly translate them for you and they are generous with letting you sample different flavors. The flavors are unique and on point, as in no overly sweet aftertaste. I highly recommend the kiwi or poppy seed, both were very good. I really liked the pumpkin apple one as well, seasonal flavor? It's also very affordable, I believe my single scoop in a cone was about 2 euros or less. If you're in Vienna, you should definitely give this place a try. My friends and I stopped in on a cold and rainy day, but it was worth it. I would love to come back and try some other flavors!

    Vegan walnut ice cream
    Laura E.

Delicious ice cream made from organic and locally sourced produce! They also have quite a few vegan options, tried the walnut one and it was delicious! And for 1,50€ a scoop the price isn't too bad (especially for that quality)

Believe the hype yelpers. This is one great ice cream shop. The queue is always long, sometimes 30 people deep and now I know why. Probably the best hazelnut ice-cream I've ever had. Seriously, go there and try, its worth the wait!

A couple raspberries, dark chocolates and a mango
    Dina H.

Best ice cream in town. Clever flavors from all natural ingredients. Big lines = you're at the right place. Quick service so don't fret about the wait. You'll need that long to make your choice anyway. My favorites: Edelbitterschokolade, Butterkeks, Erdbeere Topfen, Erdnuße

This might be the best gelato I've had ever. I eat ice cream like its water and have gotten pretty picky about my ice cream. They use organic milk which is a big plus for me, and let you sample flavors before buying. One scoop is 1.30€ I tried cookies and cream and hazelnut which were both extremely true to their flavors. The hazelnut gelato was essentially hazelnut in ice cream form and not masked at all by vein overly sweet like other places. The texture is quite "chewy" which is the texture I am always looking for in ice cream- it is a while before it turns runny. The cone was also excellent- crispy and a good sweet flavor. I might be back tomorrow.
