Just think if you could merge the Melting Pot, a Brazilian steakhouse and a retreat house. That's…read morewhat the Waldhaus Eifel is like. If you are going to come here, be prepared to eat. And be prepared for a great time set in the rolling hills of Southwest Germany. We were on a quest to find a great restaurant after exploring Trier earlier in the day. We hadn't really eaten that much and we both decided that we were tired of Schnitzel and the typical German fare. After getting a recommendation from a friend, we took a ridiculously expensive 50 Euro taxi to the Eifel. It was worth it though. We ordered the Fleich fur Zwei. It started with bread, a huge salad and then the meat tray. A giant 18" tray of steak, chicken, shrimp, vegetables and pork all served perfectly spiced but raw. Then they also gave us two square stones that looked like Space Shuttle tiles to use for cooking the said meats. I'm not sure if it was the flavor of the seasonings or the stone itself but the taste was both unique and flavorful at the same time. The stone cooked the steak in about 4 or 5 minutes. Just enough time to talk about our amazing day between courses. Then to top it off (just in case we were still hungry), they brought out another huge tray of various potatoes...baked and fried varieties. All for around 45 Euros total!

Definitely a must for those in the Eifel region. They serve a basic german salad, a hearty soup and potatoes (french fries and roasted) with every meal. The potatoes are served family style. I had the tukey breast with a fried pineapple #6. The curry sauce is not your typical asian flavor, this is creamier and less pungent. I also like the cranberry-like dollop they serve with this plate. Very nice compliment to the overall dish. My husband had the #13. He was given 3 meats (tukey,pork,beef/venison) that were raw and perfectly marinated. They came with 3 dipping sauces and out came his hot "tile" plate. He loved the whole concept of cooking his meats and above and beyond that, he really enjoyed his dinner! This is definitely a place to enjoy a nice meal. The dinner plus a couple of drinks was about 40 Euro.

I stayed here for one night on travel and I will say that for the money it was very nice. My bed…read morewas comfortable and the room was nice and clean. Spacious for a room in Europe. I did not get to swim in the indoor pool but they have one and they have nice recreation room with a pool table and a few other things. The bar and restaurant were also very nice. The bartender was absolutely adorable. They had Bitburger, Erdinger Weissbräu & Guinness on draft and a nice selection of Whiskey to include Woodford Reserve Bourbon. They had a limited selection menu due to off season but the selection was quality. They offered Schnitzel of course with traditional mushroom gravy if you choose, a garden salad and fries. This is what I ordered minus the gravy and it was fantastic. The fries were amazing. They also offered a steak with a peppercorn demi glace topped with sautéd onions served with a garden salad and fried potatoes. I tried the potatoes and again, delicious. The last option was a burger with fries. I was with several people and everyone said that the food was amazing. The only problem I had was things took forever but hey, welcome to Europe. My final thoughts, great place. The staff was great and spoke good English which was important because my German sucks! The WiFi was reasonably priced for Europe. I think that a lot of old timers stay at this place but I wouldn't let that stop you if you are in the area. For the price, you can't beat it. One thing to note is they only take Euro or Credit Cards, no American Dollar.

I am reviewing the spa service, not the hotel stay (I did not stay overnight). The food at the…read morerestaurant was also very good. The spa services were not good. My husband and I requested 1 hour deep tissue massages. We got a lady who had so much trouble pressing hard that she actually started to throw her body weight down and use her palms on me. I should have asked if they were certified. She also wrapped us in plastic and left us for 20 minutes of the 60 minute massage. Not quite sure what that was about. After that I should have stayed away from the pedicure and manicure but got one anyways. It was the same lady -- and I actually had to take the nail file and show her that I wanted her to actually create a smooth edge on my toenails. All she had done was file them in the shape they were in -- and my nails do not grow out straight (they grow out "wavy"). She didn't use any pumice stones on my foot. It was so bad that I actually didn't even bother looking at my nails and correct their shape, I just wanted it to be over. Honestly the only reason I thought the mani/pedi would be ok was I thought the service was in another area of the hotel and didn't imagine it would be the same person. Hugely disappointed -- do not go here for a real massage.
