We were seated outside and could enjoy the beautiful Volksdorf setting on an uncharacteristically warm September evening. The service was quick, attentive, and very inviting and respectful. The food came out right away. All of the dishes - from the bread and butter to the spaetzle to even the latte - were outstanding. Everything was well worth it. This is definitely a higher-end place that isn't pretentious or off-putting trying to be gourmet. It's very rustical yet at the same time modern. The staff is young and there is nothing stuffy about it. The food is well prepared and creative. I had a daily special as a starter and then a fish as the main course. My buddy had a salad to start and the gnocchi which he raved about. I really enjoyed my meal and found the accompanying wine just as good. Someone else complained about the portions and pricing in another review. I do have to agree that portions are on the smaller side and pricing is definitely at the higher end of the spectrum. I don't feel that the place is a rip-off or anything along those lines though nevertheless. It's not true gourmet eating but it's also not your every day, stop in for a bite place. If you come with those expectations, and knowing the area, you won't be blown away by the price. We had starters, mains, two glasses of wine each, two bottles or water and two espressos to complete the meal. Total cost was a touch over 100 Euro which is totally fine in my opinion for the quality of food, quaintness of the location and polite, professional service. I'm definitely coming back with the wife. I do recommend reserving, as once there is no longer outdoor seating or the weather turns, there aren't all too many tables inside and the place seems quite popular. There's also no parking on site so you had to search around on the street a bit but it's always easy enough to find something without walking all too far.

i went to mellinghus twice for dinners and really enjoyed the food and wine, as well as ambiance…read more the restaurant is small and cozy, with nice candlelight feel. there are nice pillows and plants and windowsills that make it all seem very homelike. we did have a little trouble at first when our reservation was for 5 instead of 4, and one waiter did not want to let us sit. luckily the waitress did find a place for us to sit and worked with us to accommodate. the cheese and sausage platter was amazing, served on 3 tiers with jellies, pickles, capers, and fruits with lots of varieties. we also got a large salad lightly dressed with grapes that was refreshing to have on the side. the flatbread pizzas are also excellent, and i had expected more of a torte but was happy to have it be so light and crispy crust. the first time the toppings were more simple with cheese and onions, and the second we got one with parma ham that was really nice. i also loved the snails, served warm with butter. the entree dinners also seemed good, the chicken was very moist and while i didn't try the schnitzel it seemed like everyone at the table enjoyed it as well. the wine selection is also excellent, but i would recommend that the waiters know more about the types of wines and nuances, as when i asked questions about if the riesling was dry or sweet there was some uncertainty on which had each flavor profile.
