This place is a little family run bakery, which is obviously very popular, and is just a little way off the centre (as it were) of Pudsey. It's not difficult to see why they are so coveted, as soon as you go in you are greeted by a super friendly team (I assumed a husband and wife team, but can't be 100% sure) ready to help you. I went in to browse and found myself instantly attracted to their lovely looking home-made preserves sets. The gentleman asked me if I was ok, which I was, and then apologised for having to turn on his mixer for a moment! It was lovely, and really wasn't a problem. As I had wandered in around 3pm ish the shelves were looking rather bare - the sign of a great bakers - and so I wandered to the glass counter at the front. I didn't want to walk out without something tasty. In the end I settled for a beautiful heart shaped chocolate brownie, complete with raspberry in the centre, for my boyfriend. It was going to be Valentine's day after all! I'm told that it was delicious, so I'm glad I made that choice. I bought a set of six mini breakfast jams as well, for a friend, and they were totally bargainous. I won't say exactly how bargainous, lest she discover how much I spent, though with any luck it'll be the gesture that counts! All in all this is a delightful place to purchase breads, jams, cakes and any other home made goodies. Just get in early to avoid disappointment!

These guys really are proud of their products, and with the Pie and Pasties shops this is no exception. A shop dedicated to pies is many a person's idea of food heaven, and near seasonal times of year, Bonfire Night, Christmas, New Year's Eve, people flock to Wilson's for good ole pork pies, and by flock I mean flock, queues outside the door and around the block, Wilson's is famous. And if the addage, the way to a man's heart is through his stomach is to be believed, then Wilson's is a good place to start. Pork Pies have never done much for me, but lawd, my friends love them. After calling in a favour from a mate, he requested payment in, of all things a Wilson's pie. Bargain! Twas when I went along to purchase one that I saw the busy bustling nature that is all things Wilsons. From this favour payment led to a whole bunch of people craving the Wilson's pork pie. You can't help but notice the acolades Wilson's has aquired over it's years, from best pork pie in the world, to small pork pie champions, winning awards in the pork pie appreciation society, yes this really does exist, to coverage in the local press, it seems everyone who has tasted a Wilson's pasty or pie becomes a fan. The pork pies tend to overshadow things with their famous nature, but Wilson's also does some killer pasties, and they're flippin enormous, from steak and ale, using Timothy Taylor's ale, corned beef pasty, Cornish Pasty, which is scrummy without being to peppery, but the right mix of flavour so it's not all bland and nasty. Pies wise, the Huntsman is fabulous, and my prefered option over the pork pies, much to the scorn of my friends, but the Huntsman is tasty and sweet and tart all at the same time. Large or small, meat and potato, steak, Huntsman, mince and onion, sausage rolls, cheese straws, scones, apple pies, muffins, and the big daddy, the three tiered wedding cake; 20lbs of award winning pie for £100, awesome.

It is a great compliment, then, that I consider Wilsons to make the finest pasties outside the South West. Despite the rather unpromising exterior that makes it look like a generic chain bakery, Wilsons has won many awards for its baking, its pork pies in particular, and their cheese and onion pasty is one of the best I've ever tasted, with flaky pastry surrounding a tangy, mature filling. They also do amazing snacks, like freshly baked cheese straws and radioactive looking mushy peas, and even make special three-tiered pork pie wedding cakes, which look so good they nearly make me want to eat meat again.

Moi: Sounds lovely. Pass the fat free chicken salad would you? Man: I used to work there, I made the chocolate boxes out of chocolate. Moi: Fantastico. Is that my Diet Coke? Man: They're boxes of chocolates, made from chocolate and filled with truffles. Moi: *CLANG* *CLANGCLANGCLANGCLANGCLANGCLANGCLANG* Luckily for the boyfriend he survived being clubbed over the head repeatedly with a frying pan and off to Otley we went. And there I was introduced to Mr Bun the Baker, sorry, I mean Trevor of Patisserie Viennoise. Creator of MANY WONDERFUL GOOEY CHOCOLATEY CAKEY TYPE THINGS. Things SO gooey and chocolatey and beautiful that you can hardly bring yourself to smash them into your mouth. For about 4 picoseconds. I never thought it would be possible to drop £35 in a patisserie but what the hell do I know? All I can say (seriously because my mouth is still stuck together with cocoa and butterfat) is that when a man buys you £35 worth of cake, florentines and chocolate truffles in a chocolate box made from chocolate it's frankly rude to pass on even the merest molecule of it. Slimming World. I am so so so so sorry.
