Last time I was here, this cute shop wasn't, so it's nice to see a fresh new addition to the area. It's quite a large space - open and airy with high ceilings and plenty of hanging plants, making for an enjoyable atmosphere. There's lots of seating, both indoors and out on their front patio lined with colorful flowers. We chose to sit outside on this nice, sunny morning. But first we ordered at their front counter. Here you'll find a few large glass cases displaying lots of baked goods. Savory tarts, danishes, fresh breads, and small sandwiches. We came for coffee, but couldn't resist a little bite once we saw what was on offer. Opting for the goat cheese, tomato and basil tart, they quickly warmed it for us and delivered it out to our table. Along with it came our big cups of tasty coffee; an oat milk latte for me and a cappuccino for my husband. Everything was enjoyable! Our 10-month old was definitely a fan of the flaky pastry, as were we. I would look forward to returning here again before we head back home, and on our future visits to York.

The filling was a warm, savory mix of diced beef in a rich, flavorful gravy, wrapped in a golden, flaky pastry crust. Service was friendly, and prices were reasonable. They're very consistent with their quality and although there are other nice bakeries in York, for me, none of them compete with Thomas's. Thomas the Baker is really cheap too, it's possible to get a decent lunch there for a couple of quid. The only bad thing I can say is that it's unhealthy but then again all bakeries are!

if you like your fresh baked bread this is the shop to go to…read more its a very basic looking bakery! old fashioned looking, customers have about 6ft by 4ft of space to walk in order and leave! it supplies some of the local resaurants with its little fancy bread rolls! little pesto loaves, or the scillian with ham and cheese baked through! and the stroke of inspiration he had when he did marmite and cheese bread! herby breads, plain breads, cheese breads, olive breads etc breads come in 3 sizes from little dinner rolls, cobs and loaves, though not all of the breads come in all 3 sizes the smell of the fresh baked breads and herby goodness is so inviting you have to get in early as by noon most of its stock has been sold or the shop has closed already! hint, buy all your bready needs from here and freeze, what you can't eat on the day! then just warm frozen breads up when you need them!

Filmore & Union is basically a gluten-free bakery, a small chain with a few stores, mainly in the Yorkshire area. I called here by chance having to change at York Station on my way home from Newcastle Upon Tyne, with maintenance works going on at Victoria Station hence meaning I had to change, and I was delighted to find a totally gluten-free bakery. There didn't seem to be a large amount of seating but the overall range of food was decent, I ordered a toasted peri-chicken wrap and also had a rose and pistachio cake, the premier was above average and did taste okay, albeit it wasn't something you could just eat and it was quite messy and required a knife and fork which isn't great considering this is supposed to be "to go" food, another issue was the fact it stuck to the paper so easily, and perhaps using some better paper in the future would be better as this was a huge issue. I ordered a rose and pistachio cake, having previously been aware of the combination of the two flavours from when Starbucks did a Limited Edition Pistachio and Rose Mocha just over a year ago, I didn't really enjoy the cake, it tasted a little dry. This is only a small stand in York Station, and is rather similar to another gluten-free bakery I visited which is a stand inside a department store, called Beyond Bread inside Selfridges and London, they both sell similar products of a similar quality in a similar nature (a stand inside somewhere), away from the comparisons this branch is OK, and is great for getting some food while in the train station (albeit at slightly higher pricing but this is normal for me as it is gluten-free food which is often more expensive). Due to the quality of all food struggling to reach much higher than the satisfactory / good mark, and slight issues with the pricing and the fact this place could be hard to find incase you are not using the platform, I feel it only deserves a three-star rating but this branch did impress me enough to add a larger, stand-alone branch onto my "to go to" list next-time I'm in the area.

The beef cheek was unctuous, and the vegetable accompaniment has lovely notes of cinnamon and juniper in the slaw portion. The hunters stew was filling but not heavy, and well seasoned. The oscypek cheese starter is similar to halloumi, with a firm, salty chew that gets your tastebuds going. The beer selection covers the gamut of Polish beers, from light lagers to raisin-y bocks (Koźlak). There's a wide range of vodka cocktails we did not try, plus ciders and wines. And the truly house made desserts are worth saving room for. I usually pass on dessert, but the cheesecake (not sweet) and poppyseed cake were too much to resist -- and I'm glad we didn't. So filling we brought half back home. The staff was friendly, and our waitress was charming and helpful, and even helped me understand the variations of the gołabki cabbage rolls that my grandmother had called galumpkies. Turns out there are many versions (and names) of these stuffed rolls across Eastern Europe. Now I know! Definitely worth putting on your York agenda.
