Well, that's exactly what happened today during my trip to Asadur's, a great local Mediterranean market with a wide variety of hard-to-find products, all in one place. Being Greek, it was great to see many of the classic Greek brands on the shelves - Papadopoulos cookies, Misko pasta, Kalas salt, Minerva olive oil, Venizelos coffee, Ion chocolates - the list goes on. There's also a fully stocked section of spices found in traditional Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cooking, with many of the spices that are used sparingly in Greek dishes available in small quantities. I really like this, as I can buy the spices I need fresh, and that makes a big difference in flavor when you're cooking. The cheeses in the cheese case are always fresh and high-quality, including a great kasseri, a sharp kefalograviera, and what I originally went in for: Dodoni feta, the best Greek feta cheese around. Its soft, creamy texture makes it both a great table cheese and an excellent ingredient in dishes like a good home-made spanakopita. Finally, the staff at Asadur's is quite friendly and happy to help you find what you need. I was advised that I can call one day ahead and get fresh meat and if I purchase in arrival the meat will be frozen. Good to know!

The proprietor is particularly helpful and friendly and brings in all the good henna brands. I usually stock up and send out to friends. Friendliness by the store owner, a great stock of foods that make any Indian/Pakistani go "Aaaaah", and the henna are what keep me coming back here.

Rich was happy to find Zeke's coffee, a Baltimore brand not readily available locally. They had only opened a few months before and said they were expecting a lot more items coming soon. Sure enough the second time we went there were a lot more items and they were expecting a big shipment that week. We picked up Rich's coffee and got some beans in tomato sauce, vegan cheese (for a lunch guest) and ice cream, among other things. A pleasant place to stop in and pick up some products and then got to the Cuzina for some carry-out. The staff is very nice and helpful, another nice addition to the Kensington area.
