I have seen Dr. Almario twice and both experiences were great. I am an expert dental patient! I just finished three years of treatment. I spent a lot of time hanging around dentists, orthodontists, prosthrodontists and periodontists. These reviews are blowing my mind. There was no upselling going on. It was the opposite: she didn't think I needed a treatment I have had previously, and she did not recommend deep cleaning. I felt very well taken care of, not only by Dr. Almario, but by everyone else: the hygienist, the tech, and the front desk staff. I spent three years fixing my teeth because I had to -- I spent most of my adult life in fear of dentists. I am so psyched to have found Dr. Almario. Going to this dentist was the biggest mistake I ever made for my dental health, to the point that I feel like I need to warn people. I came in for the first time about three years ago (my first dentist appointment in a couple years) and she told me I had several cavities, which I was super surprised by because I'm really diligent about my oral hygiene and know what goes on in my mouth lol. I believed her and payed THOUSANDS of dollars to get fillings for them (I really don't know how or why a few fillings cost me that much). It was a bad experience -- it was the first time I ever experienced pain at the dentist and she pinched my numb lip while working and it ended up leaving a large portion of my face swollen and bruised for days. I decided I would just do all the work she quoted me and never go back. Well now all those fillings she gave me a few years ago have started chipping off my teeth. I went to a new dentist when a big chunk of filling chipped off while flossing and left me with horrible tooth sensitivity. He said the filling butchered the tooth so badly it would need a crown and all the others she did would also need to be replaced (but not need crowns thankfully). I decided to wait and see if replacing them was really necessary and what do ya know, the other filling just chipped! I'm so sad about it and skeptical if I never needed those fillings in the first place. After reading so many reviews with similar experiences a few years ago I'm especially skeptical. I can't believe I paid thousands of dollars to mess up my mouth this bad only to have to spend thousands more to undo it all. read more

The dentists & hygienists are very friendly and do excellent work. I go twice a year for my cleanings and the staff and front desk are the best! I get automated reminders to schedule my appointments and their scheduling is very flexible. Equipment and technology is very up to date. Some rooms have a TV for you to watch while you have derive done. The location is off sunset and there are lots of great brunch places to go afterwards. Highly recommended read more

The only thing she did was cement it back on. Went to Dr. Almario for a check up and she was honestly the best! The people who gave this place a one star probably has some personal vendetta against them because what they said does not seem true after what I faced. The doctor was straight forward with her diagnostics when she noticed I had cavities. I am a person who does not like getting shots from dentists due to past behavior, but Dr. Almario and her team were gentle and quick when removing and cleaning up my cavities. While the doctor was incredibly friendly and warm, she quoted me to have many cavities (specifically 8) and 3 deep cleanings at a premium cost. While I came in for a regular cleaning, I left with no cleaning and a hefty treatment plan. I took my "proposed treatment plan" + x-rays to 2 other dentists, who both confirmed I had 0, absolutely no cavities nor would require any of the extensive work she quoted. This was extremely disappointing to see a medical professional be so dishonest. I would caution anyone to get a 2nd even 3rd opinion before moving forward with treatment here. Ever have a "deep cleaning"? You'll probably get offered one here. The only times it's been recommended to me is as an upsell when trying a new dentist with an introductory offer. When I declined the deep cleaning I got a rushed, half-a**ed, angry job - maybe half the surface of my teeth polished and floss snapped hard into my gums (which is not good for them). I should've walked out when the dentist brought up "deep cleaning" before even looking into my mouth. Facilities seemed modern and clean and front desk was friendly, but my impression was this is the kind of place that aims to maximize profit by recommending more aggressive and expensive treatment than patients need. read more

I hadn't loved a dentist since I became an adult and had to do my own appointments. I'm 37 so you know I have gone through many dentist. During covid I had to find a new one and I found this office. It's super clean, it has parking and they take all the precautions needed. The staff is super sweet, and you get to watch Netflix while they are working on you. Almost everything is perfect, the only thing is that the dentist sometimes hits you with the metal tools and I'm afraid it will chip my tooth. The assistants are very careful they haven't hit me with any tools. Overall it's great service, and I'm recommending to all my friends. read more

All the other one star reviews are SO accurate to what happens here. I previously had recommended this practice to fellow Los Feliz residents and I am truly sorry for anyone who took that advice. I had came here for a cleaning and was met with the most unkind response from any dentist I've ever encountered. I was told I had severe teeth issues and that my insurance wouldn't cover anything even if it was pre-authorized. When I asked for any context on where the diagnosis was coming from I was told "I can make you bleed and you'll see how much comes out". Like... what in the world. Then Dr. Almario refused to tell me the rest of the "diagnosis" saying I "couldn't handle it". So not only was there's no explanation any patient that doesn't have a dental education background could understand, they were actively withholding information. I had to beg them to tell me. It was the most insane thing I've dealt with at a health provider's office. Instead of speaking to me with any tact, Dr. Almario just got up and left the room and said nothing else to me and the hygienist was forced to mediate with me as if i was in a fight with a significant other. I still can't believe how insane this visit was. Later that night, I sent the same X-rays to another dentist that night and she was immediately like "you have nothing to worry about... I don't know why they would scare you like that." So I can't emphasize enough to please stay away from this office. read more

My visits with Dr. Almario have been virtually pain free, the staff is incredibly friendly, the office is clean and relaxing, there's plenty of parking in the lot, the equipment is high-tech so I know I'm getting the best care and they even have a screen on the ceiling connected to Netflix and headphones that made my crown and filling procedures fly by. I've been going to Dr Almario now for a few years and each time I'm further impressed by the high quality of work, service, office appearance and cleanliness. A few times, I've seen her associates instead of Dr. Almario and I've also been impressed with their high quality and standards. NEVER... never ever has anyone at her practice tried to 'up-sell' me or even suggest anything not related to the health and longevity of my teeth. Adversely, *I* have asked about add-on procedures such as whitening or capping my teeth and each time I been educated as to why I *don't* require these procedures and, as they are not usually covered by insurance, how they wouldn't be a good economical consideration for me. In her (their) care, my gums have gone from being unhealthy to pretty darn healthy and stable. Considering my genetics, I have held on to far more of my teeth than any of my younger siblings even (THANK YOU Dr. Almarios' team!). I go in every 3 months (MY CHOICE) and ask for x-rays every 6 as I am nearing 60 years old and at this age bone-loss is a real consideration. I hate going to the dentist. I've been through six dentists in the last ten years, since my favorite dentist retired. I went to Dr. Almario a few weeks back for a cleaning and consultation and she had me at - - - her beautiful, clean office building with parking in the back, the espresso machine and tv in her lovely, comfortable lobby, and lit candles in the examination room. Sweet. Christina and Dex ( the doctor's husband) handle the front desk and the phones, and are as polite, professional, friendly and efficient as can be, and so is Dr. Almario. She brings her toddler daughter in on Saturdays, who patiently watches her mommy work on people's teeth. I love this place and I love my new dentist. My last visit, she PAINLESSLY filled two teeth. I'm not kidding. Couldn't feel the shots. Couldn't feel my mouth for six hours but that's the price of pain-free dentistry. No blood. No painkillers needed afterward, no sore mouth. I've always had to use nitrous with other dentists - even just for cleanings - but Dr. Almario is so gentle I don't need it anymore, which is good because I need what's left of my brain cells. She's very conservative and doesn't like doing root canals, etc., unless they're really, really necessary. I have four more fillings to go and I am unafraid! She did have to give me the obligatory flossing talk, but I had that coming and she's so nice about it, it's not like you're getting in trouble. Decent part of town, she takes my Delta Dental insurance... My teeth have found a home. Now if she only did internal medicine too, I'd be set. Maybe she has a sister who's a doctor...? read more

I hadn't been to a dentist in about 2ish years (excuses, excuses: grew too old to be a dependant on my parents' insurance, finished school, moved around a bit, restarted school and got coverage again), and decided to finally make it a priority and scheduled a check-up/cleaning with Dr Almario as a new year's resolution (checking things off the list early). I was a little wary about Dr Almario's only having three reviews on Yelp at the time, but they were all positive, and her office is close to my house, and she takes my insurance.. so, basically all my criteria were met. Also, they were able to get me in for an appointment within the week. The office space was very clean and, as others have mentioned, there is a coffee machine and fridge with water in the lobby. Christina the receptionist/hygienist was sure to invite me to a beverage. Candles galore, which added a peaceful element to the office. [Not overpowering, though, for you allergy-sufferers.] There is parking in the back, but street parking in that area of Hillhurst usually isn't too difficult. I'd describe Dr Almario as professional, not too chit-chatty, but very warm and genial. She delivers information very candidly but doesn't lecture or reprimand. She was happy/willing to explain my xray results and describe her treatment plan. Answered all my questions. Did not try to sell me services that I don't need (eg, cosmetic procedures). I also liked that she did the cleaning herself (with Christina's assistance) and took the time to examine all my teeth and their old fillings. I have to go back to have an old filling replaced and am not stressed about it at all. Looks like I've found my new regular dentist, as least while I'm in the LA area. read more

Was told I had SIX cavities. THIS WAS FALSE! It all sounded suspect because I just had an X-ray done by my hometown dentist (who I trust) and nothing was wrong. After I was told by this doctor that I absolutely needed to spend tons of $ and get SIX "cavities" filled, I of course got a second opinion at another office with new xrays. You guessed it...in reality, I did not have any cavities!!! Either the folks here are incompetent and not up to par, or this misdiagnosis was a money making scam. I fear either scenario. Called the office and asked if they did Dentures and they said yes. When I arrived at the office I once again asked if they did Dentures answer yes. They did Xray . Dr. Almario then came in once again I asked if she did work on Dentures she gave me a non answer . She cleaned my teeth and and when we had a discussion regarding my Denture she finally told me she did not do Dentures but would refer me to a Dentist Downtown. So not until she has done her $69 job on me did she admit she was not the proper Dentist for me . I assume she just wanted my $69 or she was charging me to refer me to another Dentist . Yikes, people aren't kidding about the upsell. I didn't visit this page until after my appt (hopefully it's not the same for some of you). My story is simple. I went in for a cleaning and was told I had 11 cavities, needed my wisdom teeth extracted, a $300 mouthguard for grinding, and a deep cleaning (on all 4 quadrants). I was asked to schedule 4 appts and pay up front before any work. I decided to go back to my Beverly Hills dentist for a second opinion. He looked at the x-rays and gave me a cleaning. There was no need for fillings, no need for wisdom teeth extraction, and definitely no need for a deep cleaning (which is a serious procedure). Glad I had a trustworthy dentist to go back to on the other side of town, glad we have great insurance. It's harder if you don't have that option in place. Unnecessary dental work can cause unnecessary lasting pain. We can do better, people. read more

Writing a review right after a bad experience can sometimes "bite" you later but since it's been 2 years since my first and last visit here I think it's fair to leave a review. Now, first let me start with saying this place has gnarly technology. It's clean and has updated equipment. Owning all the bells and whistles is only a small piece of the puzzle, the integrity is the main part. I'm like most humans on earth who take care of their teeth but could always do more flossing. With that being said, I have never had a cavity, crown, or anything other than braces back in the day. During my initial visit here I was told I had numerous cavities and was presented with a $3000 plan towards healthier teeth. The worst part was that I didn't even have the cleaning done at all so I was charged essentially for x-rays... cool... not. I did forward those x-rays to a friend and advised that there were no known issues with my teeth so I decided to opt out of any further business with this practice. I just think it's so unprofessional to work up an invoice when there is no need. It's like taking a car into the shop and even when everything is smooth they want to add on hundreds of dollars to replace this or that. That's how I felt this place conducts business... just like a mechanic shop. Sad. Save your money and seek out another dentist. Your teeth and wallet will thank you. read more

I have always been afraid of dentists until working with Dr. Almario. She is so gentle and considerate. I had to get a pretty deep cavity drilled and a partial crown, and when she was working on my mouth I didn't feel a thing. I didn't even feel the needle go in for the anesthetic. She is so kind and very attuned to how you're feeling. Ever since seeing her, I'll never go anywhere else. And! I'm no longer afraid of dentists. Please give her a try for your next appointment! She (and her staff) is wonderful, and absolutely worth your time. Also, as someone without dental insurance, my treatment plan was surprisingly affordable, and the office helped me work out a schedule and payments that worked for me. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Almario and her talented staff. They always provide me the absolute best care and attention. I used to lose sleep over the notion I had a dental appt. the next day but no longer. The office is state of the art and clean as a whistle. They are usually very prompt and if they're dealing with an emergency they make sure to let me know how long the additional wait will be (hey, if I needed the dentist for an emergency, I should hope her other patients wouldn't mind standing by for 10 or 15 minutes). i have gone to one dentist my entire life. then i switched insurance and i had to find a new one, so i picked Dr. Almario, who was close to my house with good reviews. walking in, i was amazed at the flat screen tvs, fancy coffee maker. it felt like a spa, not the dentist! have i been missing out my entire life?! i went for my check up (which i don't even think was a thorough routine cleaning), and x-rays. the woman at the front desk had to assist the hygienist with the x-rays, which i thought was odd. they had to do the whole cycle twice and take two sets of pictures because the first round was done so poorly. then dr. almario went in, and told me that i had 9 cavities, and needed all four wisdom teeth removed. i am not cavity-prone, and have had maybe 3 cavities my entire life (two on baby teeth), and always go to my routine cleanings with good reports. i was shocked to hear this, and i felt that it was a bold recommendation to say i needed all my wisdom teeth removed, when they were not impacting my other teeth or causing any shifting. when i asked about pricing, the woman at the front desk could not give me a clear answer. she was very vague and evasive, and had a very difficult time explaining the math. she said they would have to request white fillings, and my insurance only covered silver filings, which they don't do. she ultimately said that there is no way to give a price until the dentist begins drilling, because that's when she would be able to tell how deep the cavity is, which determines the price. after a long, confusing conversion with her, we arrived at a ball park figure, which was very high even after my insurance coverage. this sounded like an incredibly shady and disingenuous way to address this. this called for a second opinion, so i went back to my original dentist, who luckily looked at me at no cost. i had Dr. Almario's office email the xrays to my other dentist for their review. my dentist said that the x-rays were indistinguishable and unreadable, and basically useless, so he did them again. he did an exam and said that i have no cavities, and he would recommend keeping my wisdom teeth unless they are bothering me, which they are not. this is exactly the opposite of dr. almario's diagnosis. i felt like her recommendation was bordering on malpractice, and she was over-diagnosing to be profitable, not because it was necessary or in my best interest. obviously i am no expert on the matter, but i do not trust her, nor would i ever go back to her for any work. i would avoid her, although she seems pleasant and the office is nice, i believe she was diagnosing for her own benefit, not for my oral health. now i guess i know how they afford all those fancy TVs! read more

I'm usually a Yelp reader and not a writer...in fact this is my first official review on Yelp, and I'm dedicating my time because I feel it's worth it to tell everyone how awesome Dr. Almario is. I HATE the dentist. Having moved here a little over a year ago and having always gone to the same dentist since I was 5, I was nervous to be in a big city and have to find a dentist I trusted, was comfortable with, etc etc. Dr. Almario is awesome. Her offices are so clean, there is parking in the back so you don't have to worry about stressing out about street parking or parking decks. Her assistant is SO sweet and knows exactly who I am whenever I call with a problem. I went for a check up a few months ago and realized I had 5 cavities... when I went to get them filled it was quick, easy, and painless... and believe me.. I freak out in dentists chairs. Today I went in because one of the teeth I had filled was feeling a bit sensitive. She took an x-ray and filed it down a bit more and didn't charge me a thing. NOTHING. She's awesome. The worst experience ever~ Went in with a toothache. Got called in for X-rays ( 2 films $58) after that the dentist poked around on my tooth with a metal piece ( $80) then tells me that she'll send me to another place for root canal (unknown price) because she's not able to do it at her office. AFTER getting my root canal done somewhere else I was suppose to go back to her for crowning. I asked her how many times would I be coming back to her, she said 4 more visit!! FOR ONE TOOTH?! My total bill for the whole 40min visit cost me $100 (with a $38 discount) which did nothing for me but told me to take Tylenol for my pain. I will contact the dental association for my concern that I was getting over charged and had nothing done for me, ALSO I'm being send to somewhere else for something that should be done in one stop. I'm not new to the dentist, nothing like this has ever happened to me before. I made the appointment there for the convenience of the location but I truly regret it. read more

They told me they did and we proceeded with x-rays and cleaning. A month later I received a bill for $4.65, which I thought must have been a mistake, and ignored it. Then I received a few more bills and a *collection* letter from the office, so I called them to clear the miscommunication. They sent me the detail for the charge and turns out it was for "additional images" which my insurance covered at 80% - something I asked them not to perform unless fully covered. Last week I received a second collection letter (yes for $4.65!) stating "we have no choice but to explore alternatives." Also about a year ago my husband went there for a toothache and was told that he needs a root canal done - it would kill his tooth and cost thousands. A different dentist then fixed it with a filling - it saved the tooth and costed under a hundred. read more
