Valery and her team are incredible. They are personable, compassionate, professional and fair! Having been seen by Dr. Sweeny for a few years now, we have built a pretty good history which is super helpful and makes it easier to keep coming back. Valery and her crew are great with kids too (mine mellow out somehow every time we've come. ) I'm in the office just about every week to swap out my Invisalign trays and I feel right at home. Being here has seriously encouraged me to keep up with my cleanings and check ups because once my trays are done, I won't see these wonderful women as much. I've been going for 4 years and I'm sadden to leave this review as my experience here wasn't bad when I first started. Over the past year I could tell there was a lot of attrition with the hygienist and the last time I went was the last straw. The hygienist started putting numbing cream on my teeth prior to my teeth cleaning, didn't explain why and didn't ask me if I was even allergic to it. He then started to clean and it was the most painful experience ever. I stopped him within a couple of minutes and walked out. When I stopped the hygienist from cleaning, he proceeded to tell me that he has 20 years of exp and that I needed to trust him. I do dental cleanings 3x a year and I'm glad I trusted my gut when it felt off. Prior to my cleaning, I saw someone who also had a cleaning leave in absolute tears because the cleaning was so painful. I'm going to start by saying that I am in my late 30s, have gone to the dentist every 6 months for my entire life, brush twice daily (with fluoride toothpaste), and floss daily. I had maybe 3 cavities in my late teens/early 20s, but none for more than a decade. Then I came here and saw Dr. Pouldar. My first visit here in the fall of 2022 included X-rays and a cleaning. The hygienist was lovely, told me I had great home care, and did a great cleaning. When Dr. Pouldar came in, he looked at small stains on my two front teeth and made a condescending comment about them (the stains came off easily with the cleaning). He then briefly looked in my mouth and reviewed the X-rays, and told me I had 3 small cavities that needed to be filled. I felt that was strange since I didn't have anything on my last dental exam, but wanted to trust this office and therefore had them filled without issue. My second visit was a cleaning in spring 2023 with the same hygienist I'd previously seen. She again told me I had great home care and did a brief cleaning, My third visit in the fall of 2023 is when things really became concerning. I had my annual X-rays and a cleaning by a new hygienist who also told me I had great home hygiene and mentioned a small amount of gum recession (which I'd known about and has been unchanged for years). When Dr. Pouldar came in, he briefly looked at my teeth and the X-rays. He told me I have a small cavity in a wisdom tooth (I still have all my wisdom teeth because I had room and they grew in straight lol) and he told me that he can go ahead and pull that tooth. I was frankly shocked that this was the recommendation for a "small cavity" and when I said that to him he replied "well do you want me to do a crown on a wisdom tooth?!" I couldn't believe that was his response! I then asked if the cavity could potentially remineralize because it was small and he said "no, it's definitely going to get bigger." Then he continued to tell me I have old fillings they are worn down with dentin showing, for which he recommended I get a porcelain inlay. Keep in mind, I've had nothing other than simple fillings in the past and don't know what ANY of these procedures he is recommending. Anyway, I continued to ask questions and ended with "what would you do if these were your teeth?" and he said he would just continue to watch them. Lol. Ok. At this point I saw my old dentist back in NJ who saw no cavities and told me that even if dentin is exposed (which it wasn't - it was just discoloration), if I'm not having sensitivity or other issues there is no reason to do an expensive procedure such as a porcelain inlay. My final visit in May 2024 was also strange. I saw a new hygienist, a middle aged man. As soon as he looked in my mouth he said "wow you have a lot of gum recession!" He went to get a "special tool" and proceeded to do the most uncomfortable cleaning I have ever had in my life. After the cleaning, he told me that my gums are very unhealthy and that is a "reflection of your overall health." He said my gums bled a lot. He then showed me how to floss correctly lol. This is when I got defensive, explained to him that I use an electronic toothbrush, floss daily, have gone to the dentist every 6 months my entire life, and that I have never been told that my gums were so unhealthy! He replied "well maybe they weren't being honest with you." I couldn't believe that! I left the room very frustrated and gaslit. The front desk staff was lovely and apologized, asked for feedback, and didn't charge me for the visit. I have since seen my old dentist in NJ, had X-rays and a cleaning, had no cavities, no issues, and was told my gum recession is minimal and significantly less than the average person. The hygienist also told me that a lot of places are trying to claim periodontal disease so that they can do more expensive deep cleanings. Phew, I should have trusted my gut all along!! Summary: don't go here. I'm sad I didn't trust my gut from the beginning. I'm just glad I didn't have more unnecessary, expensive work done like many others seem to have had done. read more

Starting from the front desk, greeted with respectful, courteous, and professional staff. My procedures were as smooth as could be. I had a really bad experience with Valery Sweeny as my dentist. She had been recommended by a friend of a friend, and her office was nearby where I lived, so I decided to give her a try. I would like to preface my review by saying that I had not been to a dentist in over 6 years when I went to see her, so my teeth were not in great shape, and sudden pain that came on literally overnight is what drove me to seek her out. During my first trip to her office, I had a similar experience as many other people expressed here, that I was being "up-sold" on a variety of dental work, but I was in so much pain that I didn't really second guess any of what she told me I needed to have done, plus, she showed me pictures of my teeth to explain why I needed to get so much dental work. She did not, however, explain to me that the first tooth she planned to work on was in potential danger of needing a root canal, only that the filling needed to be replaced and that I would need an onlay. She also started working on two other teeth the same day as she gave me the onlay and capped them with temporaries so that I could still eat. However, the onlay did not take and when I went home, I was in excruciating pain every time I ate or drank. This placed me in a very bad position because one side of my mouth was hampered by the tempories, and the other was in excruciating pain, so that I could only eat mush. She also failed to use the proper amount of anesthesia the first time she drilled on my teeth, so much so that I was tearing up, with tears literally falling down my cheek while I was clutching the dental chair for dear life, due to the pain she was causing me. She also didn't seem to notice that I was in pain and didn't even stop to ask me if I was ok until after the procedures were done, and then seemed surprised when I told the procedure had been painful. How could she not notice considering the obvious wincing in pain that I had been doing? For this reason, amongst others, I think she has a sadistic streak, because when I told her that the tooth with the new onlay was causing me considerable pain, she insisted on finishing all of the other dental work despite my reservations about moving forward since I was already in so much pain. I feel like she was just trying to do as much dental work on me as she could with minimal effort, and that if she was concerned about how decayed my tooth was - and whether or not the onlay would took or if I would need a root canal - that she should've warned me and just worked on that one tooth before jumping ahead so quickly to work on the others. But, she didn't. I had no clue the tooth was in danger of needing a root canal and was in total shock when, after she gave me the onlay, that now the very same tooth would need a root canal. For this reason, I not only feel that she has a sadistic streak in her, but that she is also only and solely about the money she makes from being a dentist. I don't think she took my well-being into consideration when she started working on the other side of my mouth before she knew if the new onlay would take. She never once mentioned the tooth was in an advanced state of decay before the procedure, so when she told me I needed a root canal after she put an onlay on the tooth, I felt completely and utterly confused. It was difficult for me to trust her after that, and once she completed the other dental work that she had started, which seemed more urgent to her than all the pain I was in, I stopped going back. Went in first time for cleaning. The person cleaning my teeth knows a sucker when she sees one. But before that part... she was so rough cleaning my teeth I was sore for two weeks after. I should have gotten off the chair when she handed me safety goggles before we started. She splattered the water all over me and all over the room with the water thing they put in your mouth. After, she sold me an electric toothbrush for $250. I thought, oh, this must be a great toothbrush. But not so much. It's a smart brush that's kinda really dumb. I had a terrible, scarring experience here that I am still paying for almost five years later. I went into Dr. Sweeny's office in no pain and was cornered into taking out a line of credit and getting three fillings done that I didn't need in the first place in the very short amount of time that I was examined. Unlike other dental practices, this team give me the option to think about doing the work suggested and get back to them. They pressured me into doing it that day, capitalized on the fact that I was a young single girl who was not an expert on what kind of care I needed. That summer I had terrible pain from the fillings, had to go back twice to get the fillings fixed, and I still am in debt from the awful job they did. All I will say is make sure you get a second and third opinion on whatever they quote you in this office. I went in for a basic crown replacement and they quoted me $700. Went to a different dentist recommended by a friend and they quoted me $30 and this dentist specifically mentioned that the procedure recommended at Vallery Sweeney's office was overkill and unnecessary. It's really hard to find a trustworthy dentist in general, but I would be very weary about this office. They will see you as a customer as opposed to a patient. I went to this office as my dentist of 5 years was backed up. I was quoted about 4K in dental needs and was declined a base cleaning. I asked the order of what I should prioritize and was told I needed to do all of the work in the next week. It's a pretty massive red flag to be declined my biyearly cleaning and told I need to spend $300 on a deep cleaning. I was also told that I'd need to completely redo all of my teeth in the next 20 years and would need to do cleaning every 3 months. Upon getting 3 more opinions, I was told I needed one crown in totality and was quoted $300 less on average at other dentists. I was also granted my cleaning.;) All this tells me is I was lied to and began looking into credit cards to be able to afford something I didn't need. If a dentist can't tell you the priority of an issue and demands you schedule within a week and won't give you a cleaning, RUN. read more

Do NOT go here! Tried to scam me by saying I needed a deep cleaning, lasers, and had 2 cavities which would be thousands. I've never had any dental work of this nature and go twice a year, so naturally this was a huge surprise. I went to another dentist for a 2nd opinion who found none of this to be true, 0 cavities and not even close. One dentist was also very callous and had poor bedside manner. My experiences were always with different people and never directly with Valery which is odd. The hygienists are nice but always stressed and short on time/understaffed. Honestly, a very long time coming from my end, but everyone saying that this dentist and her office are unorganized and greedy is speaking the truth. I went to her office after finding her through my insurance agency's database - turns out this office wasn't actually under my insurance, but they decided to let me know that after a consultation and procedures (both separate appointments days apart). Please note: they had many days to inform me that my insurance made a mistake and decided not to inform me until they'd already performed their services. On top of that, Sweeny said I needed to replace one of my fillings in one of my molars. I now know that I did not need a replacement, but I did not know any better at the time so I went along with it, resulting in what would end up becoming a whole other, expensive saga where I ended up needing a crown on my back molar (needless to say I found another dentist for that procedure). Altogether, Sweeny and her office are full of people looking for a fast buck, and it's definitely going to bite them all in the ass one day when they screw over the wrong person. So I went here right after moving to LA as my first shot at getting a new dentist. I actually came in because my permanent retainer broke off one of my teeth and I decided to get the whole thing removed. From the moment I sat in the chair she immediately tells me I have inflamed gums, small cavities, and need wear fillings on like 8 teeth in addition to needing my retainer out. Now I know what you're thinking, ok well you probably have a nasty mouth and desperately needed all of that, but nay nay. I've got wonderful teeth and before the move had seen the dentist for routine cleaning every six months since I got out of college in 2015. Never once had any cavities, needed any fillings or any of the what I now realize to be frivolous nonsense I was peddled. However, in the moment at 7AM on a Thursday, knowing that she is the medical professional and not me, I say do whatever you think is best. They give me a rundown on the prices before they do anything and it's over $1000 dollars. They also added some laser treatment for inflation, which wasn't covered at l by insurance so I had them take that off. Still $639. $150 of that was what I came in for, the permanent retainer removal. Looking back at it, the whole experience leaves me with a bitter taste in my mouth. I feel as though I got scammed into unnecessary procedures that were at the extreme end of preventative at best. Bottom line, it's a nice place and Valerie and her staff were nothing but nice to me, but I feel as though they try to take you for everything you can give them as soon as you walk in. THIS WOMAN IS A FRAUD! Subpar at her job and takes no accountability for her poor work. Valery takes advantage of the community she does business in, women of color and people with no insurance! In poor taste to support this business spent $7000 having work done with Valery. Paid to have two root canals, a replacement crown and bonding done on 4 front teeth. Never received bonding as Valery later said it wasn't covered in my billing. So either her salesperson was a liar or she is. I went to another dentist for a 2nd opinion before we finished all the work I'd paid for and he told me there were already cracks in the crowns she did, that the material she used wasn't strong and shouldn't be used for back teeth because of pressure (To add the teeth never fit properly, they were significantly bigger than the rest of my teeth and too tall for my bite, she had to buff one down so much it was just a smooth surface with absolutely no ridges!) By 2022 I had two crowns break one while eating ice cream and the other on toast. I go to Valery clearly upset because here I am 5 years later about to have to spend more money on work that should have lasted far past 5 years. After a heated conversation she agrees to cover the cost to repair one crown and says I can go to someone I choose or she can give me a referral, she gives me a referral but I decide to go with a friend's dentist instead, because at this point I don't trust Valery's judgment of what acceptable work is. Cost of one crown at the other dentist is 1500. I write to valery telling her the cost and she says we verbally agreed to 950 in the office! Lies! a number was never agreed upon only that she would reimburse me to have one crown replaced. She also sends paperwork for me to sign so i can legally never come after her for her faulty work. I took the 950, because I really needed to have something to put towards these new crowns, but here I am left shelling out money for work I already paid in full for once. Valery Sweeney DDS office tripled booked my appointment time and would not honor. But, really, this is also about the attitude I got when this happened. So... I was needing a dentist closer to home in Echo Park. I saw a few recommendations for this office on Nextdoor. I requested an appointment through their website. A nice lady called me back and set me up with one pretty quickly. She asked me on the call if I had insurance and I said I believed so, but I needed to find my card as I didn't have the info on me. I asked if I needed insurance? She said no and also no problem, we can confirm insurance when I came in. The day before my appointment I received a voicemail. I was working and couldn't answer. Transcribed voicemail below and I attached the screenshot from my phone: "Hi Miss this is Katie I'm calling from Dr. Valerie Sweeney's dental office I'm just giving you a call to remind you about your appointment for tomorrow Friday February 21 at 12pm will see you tomorrow thank you..." I go in this morning. I give them my Delta Dental card. Lady at front gives me forms. I'm the only one there in waiting area. I fill out forms. Only one dude came in while I was in the waiting area. I give forms to front desk, lady confirms my insurance. I go sit to wait. Another lady comes out. Didn't catch her name as she didn't bother. She tells me she's sorry but because I didn't call them back to confirm my appointment yesterday they triple booked my time and if I still wanted the appointment today I would need to wait about 45 minutes. I told her I wasn't aware I had to confirm my appointment. I mean, didn't I confirm when I made the appointment? Nope. Apparently not. And I guess living in LA for 15 years has taught me nothing because I'm told "this is how all businesses in LA operate". Lady, boloney. I asked for my forms and let them know I would not be returning. I told her no one told me I had to confirm an appointment. I then got the most phony "I'm so sorry, but you needed to confirm" response. Obviously, I left. But, I did call her out on her facetious tone. I get misunderstandings and stuff happens but this is terrible business model. If you mandate a follow up confirmation after booking then tell your new patients. Don't waste their time. And, I don't know, maybe not triple book. This is probably all for the best. Like I said, I saw them recommended on Nextdoor. I hadn't read their Yelp reviews. Yikes. I gave this office multiple attempts... I will not be returning. The office tried to pressure me into the laser gum cleaning, which I was nervous about as it is experimental and my insurance did not cover any of. I work in the dental industry and this treatment has yet to be adopted by most dentists. I had coordinated with the office before my appointment that I did NOT want this done, just a regular deep gum cleaning. Mid-appointment as I am in the dental chair, they begin doing the laser gum cleaning without my consent. Absolutely terrifying... and expensive. I went in for teeth whitening and had a bad experience. I sat in the chair for 30 minutes prior to being helped. Then while whitening my teeth, was left alone for long periods of time and it was extremely painful. I noticed very little difference after the whitening. Not worth the $500. Final chance given was a pretty traumatic cavity filling experience. I got wacked in the face with their tools, which they apologized for, but not pleasant. DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST!!!! She will overcharge you and tell you that you need work that you don't need. 2 weeks ago she quoted me for work that would have cost $1000 after insurance. I got two outside consultations (one of them my uncle) and both dentists said that there is no need for any of the work and that my teeth were perfectly fine. She said my gums were receding and I needed fillings and a night guard. Both other dentists said that my teeth simply need to be monitored yearly for additional recession, but the condition was not serious enough to require any fillings yet and there is not enough evidence of teeth grinding to warrant a night guard. She had already done several fillings for me which I now have learned were not necessary and potentially damaging to my teeth. She also told me that I need to come in more frequently- every 4 months as opposed to every 6, which is not covered by my insurance and would be an out of pocket expense. The other dentists told me my teeth were great and that I should keep doing what I was doing and only needed to come in every 6 months for regular visits. She clearly took advantage of my naivety and I hope others read this so she doesn't take advantage of anyone else. My advice - Make sure to get a second opinion! read more

Avoid this dental office at all costs! Tried Valery Sweeny after moving to LA recently. Dentist pressured me into dental fillings I didn't need. Work was sloppy and resulted in 2+ weeks of toothaches. Attempt to adjust fillings was unsuccessful and didn't resolve my tooth pain, the dentist seemed baffled by what could be the problem. Reading other reviews, it's clear I'm not the only one who's had a poor experience here. My wife and I will be finding a new dentist and we'll be following up with our insurance. read more

Firstly it must be noted that Valery Sweeny DDS is a sweet and knowledgeable dentist whose work has been fantastic. The office is clean, modern and tidy. My beef is with the overall business model. Quite frankly, they want your money and lots of it and go about getting it in sneaky, predatory and creepy ways. They use fear, intimidation and bullying through smiles to squeeze it out of you. With my last interaction I have been left with an overall feeling of sadness that has lingered. After a cleaning (which they recommended every four months rather than the standard six) I was given a long laundry list of procedures to follow with clear pricing. Generally a new crown and some extractions. I asked if there was anything I could do to lower my price. They said bring in cash. Already, a little suspect. After the first go round and before extractions I came into the office to confirm that money I'd paid in advance was still available for the procedure. Answer: No. Then, once I brought out my own paperwork, "oh, wait a minute, yeah, you're good". Luckily I left with additional paperwork clarifying my current credit. Extraction day. Promised pill for anxiety was locked up and key unavailable on the weekend, with a "we'll be happy to get you one from a pharmacy, but it will take an hour." They could have called and told me, but they waited till after I'd arrived. The specialist, not Valery, pressured me to just go with it and that I'd be fine. The work lining up someone to pick me up and drive me home was wasted energy. Then the surprise. We'd like to add a bone graft procedure. If you don't get it then {INSERT SCARY HORRIFYING CONSEQUENCES HERE}. $800. Pay now. Having psyched myself up for the extraction, with anxiety coursing through my veins, I capitulated. Why hadn't they provided me that information before I'd gone in? You do the math. Extractions done and with paperwork back from my insurance company it became clear that I had money owed to me. Insurance paid more than anticipated, leaving me with a surplus. I called the office several times to confirm and, of course, they never got back to me. I finally went in with all my paperwork in hand. Sorry, they said, you don't get anything back. You had a "specialist". They always charge higher prices and (implied) they get to keep whatever is left over. Sure, you have prices in writing, but your surplus is ours now. Period. End of sentence. Go away, I have things to do. Please, please, go away. This went on for an hour, but eventually the manager (not Valery, who wasn't there at the time) decided I should just be happy, and gave me the difference between the higher prices the office asked from the insurance company and my surplus. Pardon the pun, but it was like pulling teeth and it left a bad taste in my mouth. Awful, awful experience that gives me no faith I'll be treated with fairness in the future. Lessons to be learned: Don't pay for anything in advance. Get it all in writing. Clarify what procedures need to be done as well as pricing before proceeding. Trust but verify. I created a Yelp account to write this review! My previous dentist -still- couldn't get me in for a cleaning due to the pandemic. Dr Sweeney's office was flexible with scheduling. I was nervous coming in because of previous reviews, but was totally proven wrong. Parking was easy (private parking in Silver Lake? Come on). I didn't have to wait more than a few minutes to be seen. Dr. Wolfe and staff were personable and friendly. They didn't try to upsell me anything like some other dentists do. This office is definitely all about money and after getting a second opinion from another dentist, they are also Way overpriced almost to a point where it seems like a scam. I would call to make appointments and they would fail to let me know the correct amount due at the time of my appointment. Or I would call with a question and get a different answer every time. So - I've read some reviews and would recommend avoiding this place at all cost. I'll start by saying that if you're threatening Yelp posters with libel, probably not a great look for your practice, read the comments below, some of their responses to bad reviews are insane / childish at best (E.g. look at the Iowa comment if it's still up) Now - for my experience as a patient, they literally made me come in 2x for ANYTHING e.g. x-rays, + cleanings / that's a 2x PTO affair. This place does not value my time the way I've grown accustomed to. After waiting 20 mins in the chair once, they told me the hygienist had "a flight" and couldn't do my scheduled cleaning I took PTO for. As for the treatment.... I'm a multiple (like 6+ filling person during round one), then in round two 3 months later for a cleaning, they diagnosed another 3 fillings - when I asked if these were new, they were like "no these were there". Like seriously?! That means they either missed it during the first pass, missed-diagnosed it on the second, or ... dare I say just trying to shoe-horn in work which falls into category 1? I've been going to the dentist every 6 months for my entire life, and my first tooth aches started after getting work done here. When I told the dentist about the scheduling thing, he was (rudely) like "okay well that's your opinion" and was very clear that he "can't control the schedule of the hygienists ." I cannot believe this place is still in business without being sued for fraud because their practices are so blatantly unethical and greedy. I went in for an X-ray and cleaning and they ended up charging me $369 WITH insurance for my FIRST visit, then claimed I had over $2000 worth of work needed after that. I went home and looked up the codes they provided and discovered that she didn't even perform 2 of the procedures I was already charged for $190, and even if she had, I didn't need the procedures in the first place based off what I've researched online myself and what I've been told by a second opinion I got from another dentist in my hometown. When I didn't answer their calls to set up a new appointment for the work that I DIDNT NEED, they sent me another $20 bill claiming my insurance didn't cover part of the procedure that they never even performed on me. I'm assuming this is their intimidation tactic to milk people for as much money as they possibly can once we've already figured out what shady business they're up to. I'm totally appalled and disgusted by this doctor and I will be reporting her to my insurance for fraud. DO NOT GO HERE. THEY ARE BULLIES. read more

PLEASE BE CAUTIOUS; UNSANITARY EXPERIENCE, DETAILS BELOW. I am rarely ever one to write a bad review of any business as all opinions differ, but my experience at Valery Sweeny's office today made me really uncomfortable, and I want to warn potential/future patients. I really hope this is a one-off, and out of the norm. I showed up for my appointment today, filled out my new patient forms, and sat down in the office. Valery came in, introduced herself to me, did a brief overview of my chart, and handed me off to a tech to do my initial x-rays. To note, the tech was very sweet. Once she finished, she placed a bib (the blue paper bib that every patient gets, held up by a 'bib chain' placed around the neck) and left to grab Valery. Here's where it gets really bad. THE BIB HAD ANOTHER PATIENT'S BLOOD AND OTHER FLUIDS ON IT. This is a paper bib that is meant to be disposed of, NEVER reused! I have added photos as this is a huge claim to make, so evidence is obviously necessary. Please keep in mind that other than the x-rays, we had not done any work on my teeth yet. This is all once again blood/saliva/pus/cleaning agents/various fluids from a previous patient. These photos definitely do not do justice of the blood stains specifically- most spots were dried and don't really show up here as they did in person, & not all was dried... there were spatters of 'fresh' (not yet dried) blood too. That being said, once Valery returned, I showed her and let her know that I didn't feel comfortable continuing care. She said she would have to speak to the tech about it, and apologized, and then I left immediately. Please be very cautious as a patient here! I am hoping that this is a mistake that does not happen at this practice often, but could be VERY harmful as any patient could pass along diseases to other patients via pathogens in an unsanitary setting like this. I am also very upset that I already allowed the x-rays (as I of course had no prior reason to decline) and that potentially infected / dirty equipment could have already been used in my mouth. Dr. Sweeny is very sweet and skill-wise a good dentist but after switching to another dentist, I realize the main focus of this office is to make money. After my first visit, I got a long list of work I needed done including things like gum grafts for my "receeding" gums (I'm 34) and replacement of ALL of my silver fillings because according to Dr. Sweeny, they were "too old." THOUSANDS of dollars of work. The office manager told me my insurance was useless and suggested I use CareCredit. Every visit, they would pressure me to up my credit limit and actually upped it once WITHOUT my authorization! I even got into an argument with the office manager once because he wouldn't stop pestering me. Dr. Sweeny replaced all but a few of my silver fillings (I had about 9), even though there were no cavities. I later found out from a dental assistant friend that silver fillings last much longer than the white ones and there's no reason to replace them UNLESS you have a cavity. In fact, in NY where my friend works, it's basically illegal for a dentist to suggest replacing your silver fillings unless there is actually something wrong because it's just a tactic to GET MORE MONEY. Thousands of dollars in debt later, I had a bunch of unnecessary work done. I should have done my research and gotten a second opinion but a person should be able to trust their dentist not to suggest unnecessary work so they can make more $$$. This review is way overdue. If I could put no stars I would. Highly questionable dental practice. The office's main goal is to get as much money out of you as possible telling you to get services that you really don't need that are mainly cosmetic but Sweeney will claim that there is a severe problem. Do not recommend at all!!! The patient should be able to trust their practitioner with their health and this is not the case with Valerie Sweeney. She didn't want to go through with my general cleaning because she found I needed a deep cleaning(more money in her pocket). She pushed for me to get the deep cleaning before she could do anything, which for me doesn't make sense if you want to prevent further complications. They sound like greedy salespeople. They wanted to pressure me to use Care Credit for the procedures and didn't give me other financing options and wanted to give me a discount if I used Care Credit. If I paid cash I would pay more. Who does that?! They claimed that my fillings were not covered by insurance when it was with my mom and we both have the same medical insurance. When my mom asked they gave some bullshit excuse as to why it wouldn't be covered for me. I wasn't able to get back to them letting them know I wasn't going to make it to an appointment due to work scheduling and they ended up refusing service to me. Not only did they refuse service to me but they sent a letter to my mom telling her they would not be able to continue service for her and she was a loyal client to them for years. Very unprofessional way to deal with an issue. Nonetheless I took mine and my mom's business elsewhere and we couldn't be happier. Needless to say our current dentist did the dental cleaning for me so he could evaluate if I really needed a deep cleaning. Not only that but all the things that Sweeney claimed to be "required dental procedures" actually weren't. Please do yourself a favor, save your money and take it to someone who does an ethical practice. Not to someone who abuses their knowledge and expertise to scam clients. read more

I have been going here for a few years now because it's close to my house and they took my insurance. I didn't think it was that bad until today. Every appointment they have made me wait at least 20 to 30 mins and at worst a hour and half, which happens I get it. Today, I called to confirm my appointment, checked to see if they were running on time, (they were not) got there, sat in the chair for my cleaning, got XRAYS. Then was told they were running behind and need to RESCHEDULE MY CLEANING, the whole reason I was there. Reading these other reviews about suggesting procedures that were unnecessary is very hard to prove and a little dangerous. Although, I just left there after they said I had 3 cavities that need to be filled and went straight to another dentist who said I was no where near needing 3 fillings. So yes, I can't recommend this place they don't have their shit together. Nice office and nice staff but fuck, you can't mess up scheduling that badly and expect repeat customers. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST! In three words this dentist is incompetent, insecure, and arrogant. She gave my family and I two years of hell that ended up with two lost teeth that could have been saved and over $14,000 lost, wasted in her practice plus $18,000 to fix the problem she caused, and when she realized she was in deep trouble she offered $1,500 in exchange of a "release of liability" letter, which of course I didn't sign. Oof had my first and last visit here. The staff was very nice so I hate to give this office a bad review but I do not trust them. To start, they kept me waiting 40 minutes and when I was finally seen they do a lengthy "cleaning analysis" to let you know what type of cleaning you need. Um, I want the standard cleaning every other dentist gives and that's covered by my insurance. Then they "measure" your gums and try to convince you that you really need "deep gum cleaning" something I never heard of before. The entire visit felt like I was at a car dealership where they keep up-selling you. They insisted I needed everything from root canals to a mouth guard totaling 7k worth of work! I said no thanks and that I'd be getting a second opinion. read more

I had a horrifying experience here. They told me I needed to spend over $2,000 on 7 fillings and a crown, when I have never had a cavity in my life. It felt off, so I went for a second opinion at a professional office and confirmed I have zero cavities (it was coffee staining) and no need for a crown (my veneer glue line is not a cavity). I feel their dental license should be questioned. I am grateful they did not con me into this scam and I hope this comment saves you from it too. read more

I went here when I was desperate and on DentiCal. Do NOT make the same mistake I did. She seemed nice enough, but being nice does not equate to being a good dentist. She gave me unnecessary "fillings" on 4 of my front teeth. I assume she did this only so she could bill the state. Each of the fillings later chipped or fell off. Now one of my front teeth is slightly different from the other. I should have known she was an imbecile when she used "like" every other word while describing why she couldn't give me a root canal. Thank goodness she didn't! Terrible, greedy dentist. DO NOT USE. I wish I could write a bad review for her twice. read more
