Honestly, I don't know how many stars to give this place. Thursday, my fiancée and I visited this nursery. Upon walking up we were instantly greeted and asked for assistance. We were there for about 10 minutes, we were advised to come back tomorrow, the soil we needed would be available. We didn't come back the very next day, we came today which is Saturday. We walked up, a lady who seem to be the "worker" was talking to a couple. The couple left, so it's myself, my fiancée and another customer who was off picking flowers. As we were looking for the "workers" who helped us on Thursday, we see who we assume is another "worker" She looks in the opposite of our direction, walks to a section where I suppose flowers were in desperate need of watering, started watering the flowers without acknowledging us whatsoever. After walking further into the nursery, still looking for the "workers" from the previous visit, still no acknowledgement from the "worker" who was only 15ft away. My fiancé says, "do you want me to see if she can help us?" I then say to the "worker" "do you work here?" "Are you assisting anyone?" She replies, "Yes, I work here, do you need help?" I asked, " do you greet customers?" Her answer lead me right out the door. She replies, " Yes I was assisting some people earlier. My reply, "thanks but no thanks we'll go somewhere else. I would like to tell you, if you read this "Ms. Worker" whatever personal issues you have within yourself, put them aside and make yo money. Money is green if you didn't know....now ya know! I hope the "workers" I was initially looking for, retrain her. Maybe she will buy what we intended, to make up for your loss. read more

Excellent variety. Great staff. Could use a little "gardening extras" for sale(implements, baskets, fountains, etc. And a LITTLE on the pricey side for some things. But overall a great place to start your yard! read more

Called in and asked if they had American Holly trees in stock (Ilex Opaca). The man that answered said he had about 50. Excitedly, I drove 1 hour to go pick up 10 of them. When I get there he tells me that they're not American Hollies, but Oakland Hollies that are small hybrids and not what I asked for. He knew the whole time and lied to me over the phone. It was ridiculous and wasted me 2 hours time and gas. I will never go back there, really shady customer service. Be warned that they might lie to you. read more

Effinger's Garden Center is a cut above the rest! They have a huge selection of beautiful, unique and healthy plants, trees, vegetables, shrubs, etc. Their staff is always friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable! If they don't have an answer for you, they will find someone who will (which is appreciated) I got home today and realized I had told the cashier an incorrect price and when I got home I realized my mistake. I called them to see if I could give them my credit card over the phone to pay the $10 extra and Rick (the owner) was so kind and told me thank you for being honest and not to worry about it. I'm flattered beyond belief and can't wait to go back. I'm telling everyone I know to get their plants from Effinger's!! You guys ROCK. read more

Two weeks ago we purchased half a dozen bushes from this establishment. We looked at several and purchased a particular one that was recommended by the employee assisting us. We were told they were pretty much impossible to ruin and not to worry if anything should happen to them. If anything happened he said to bring them in or take pictures and bring our receipt within one year and they would replace them. Since then, all of them appear completely dead, at least every part above ground likely due to the unprecedented snow that happened last week. Knowing there would be cold temperatures we covered all our bushes and flowers we had planted the same day with sheets to protect them from the weather. Our flowers and other bushes we purchased from Lowe's all survived with no issues. The bushes purchased here did horribly. As instructed, we took pictures of all the bushes an brought in our receipt to show what had happened. First, I would like to preface that I'm not writing this review due to what happened, but in response to the treatment we received from Rick at this establishment. Upon arriving we spoke to a lovely girl behind the counter who called Rick to come assist us. When we spoke to him about our issue, he was curt, interruptive, and dismissive of us. Without even letting us complete full sentences he harshly and abrasively insulted us repeatedly, saying he had no such policy, and it was our fault for planting the bushes we purchased, recommended by them as what he called "too early". He was not the gentleman we worked with when we purchased our bushes. That person we worked with two weeks prior was extremely nice and helpful and had I written a review after that experience it would have been five stars. However, having experienced an issue and gone back and how we were treated so abominably, and I would even say less than humanly I felt it imperative to write this review for anyone else thinking of shopping here. This business owner is conducting unethical practices. I highly doubt any employee would make such claims that they had a policy that they would replace anything within the first year with a receipt if there were issues if that were not true. I am not blaming this business for the crazy weather that happened, and had the owner dealt with this issue in a professional and courteous manner I also would not have an issue. However, I take great offense at being talked down to with an abrasive tone and being completely dismissed and repeatedly insulted both my husband and I over and over several times by this individual. We came in good conscious to speak to someone and could not have had a worse experience. Never, have either of us ever been treated so horribly by any establishment we have ever been a patron of. Additionally, as I am already writing the above, there were several other concerning issues I'd also like to call attention to from this business. First, Rick not wearing a facemask and upholding public health protocols while dealing in proximity to others. This is inconsiderate and negligent as a human and business owner to patrons and employees having to work there around this individual. Secondly, this person also would not speak directly to me and instead after my speaking and his frequent interruption and insults would only look at and speak to my husband and then told him it was my fault for buying them in the first place. I do not take kindly to misogyny or wish to be a patron or work with anyone who speaks down to me for being a woman. And excuse us as we were both shopping together previously, and we purchased what was recommended to us and we follow the instructions given to a 't' on planting and protection if there should be inclement weather. Thirdly, we were quite aghast when speaking with an employee when we were waiting for Rick who was injured and in pain and could barely move and was forced to work to keep their job and this business couldn't even give them a chair or assistance or time off obviously needed. Bottom line, after our purchase we had been so happy we were planning to return to purchase more plants for the rest of our yard, but now after this experience today, we are disgusted with the unethical practices of this establishment, the treatment we received, and the treatment we saw of employees. We highly discourage anyone from giving even one cent to this establishment. I don't know who Rick thinks he is that he could speak to anyone in the manner he did so. I will be making our experience known web wide and filing a complaint with the better business bureau. All of which could have been avoided had we been treated in a professional manner. read more

A plant place for green-thumbed & black-thumbed folk alike! I've gotten such quality plants and advice from this place, that I've gone from killing everything green to keeping bonsai trees & a variety of other lovely plants alive and thriving. The employees always take the time to help me select the best plants for my location & soil type, and give great pointers for the variety of indoor succulents and tropicals I've purchased from them. The cheap, disease-infested plants I used to buy from home improvement stores made me think I could never keep plants alive. Turns out that nobody there does their research, so the plants are unhealthy before you get them. Plus, if you follow their incorrect care guidelines, your investment is doomed. Needed an outing, and we're new to the region, so we went to Effinger's to learn about what we can plant here. Most of the plants were gone, but it's July, I understand. However, what was left was in very good condition, and I saw plants I've never seen before. Fun! I can't wait to go back without my troupe of littles and bend their ears on what I should be planting in my yard for next year! read more

Purchased 150 plants from Rick this Spring. Rick delivered the plants and placed them where they needed to be planted. Plants were delivered on time and all were very healthy. Quality of plants are significantly better than the big box stores. Extremely satisfied customer!!! read more

I stopped in to get a few more plants for my office and I am sure glad I did. The service I received at Effingers Garden was outstanding. The gentleman Rick who was helping assist my family and I was very personable and hands-on. He actually gave us a quick lesson on the correct way to water my new succulents. He showed us how they should be planted, the best way to water, and even how to propagate them. I cannot say enough nice things about our experience that day. I would return to Effingers based on my experience with Rick alone. He was amazing! If you are looking for some new plants or even any accessories for your existing plant, go to Effingers! You will be very glad you did. You can tell that they are in this business because they love what they do and have a passion for plants and helping other people find their love for plants.
