Pretty sizable, its weird how half the pools in this city are tiny and the others are gigantic. I mistook the hot tub for a pool at first. Bad vision without my specs. Hot tub wasn't too hot but it might've been the day. Theres 3 pools I think. Kids, lanes and a diving area. This place has a slide and a lot more. In the swimming lanes, someone had an under water radio, which was weird but cool! Couldn't hear it above water, only below. I didn't see a sauna but there is a steam room. Every 40 seconds it was blasting heat into the room pshhh! Pshhh! I found it a bit tricky to find the shower by the steam but its probably just my bad eyes again.

We also really like swim lessons here for the wee ones. The fact that the pool facility has so many different features is great! The one downside of course is that this facility can get REALLY busy and full on a regular basis. The fitness centre is good too, though it can be crowded. My kid adores the interactive art in the lobby. Transit is nearby and parking is ample though you may have to walk a fair bit once you've parked in the overflow lot.

There are always good classes going on here. There's a nook on the Northside of the running track with stationery bikes, a pulley machine, and kettle bells so I can do the majority of my workout in this section. They also have a ton of free weights, all the different cardio machines, weight machines, a running track, turf fields, racquet ball courts, basketball courts, and a beautiful pool. It really has everything I could ever need to stay fit. By far the prettiest and best stocked city facility.

It looks like it hasn't been renovated since the 70s in the best kind of way. The lounge is warm, cozy, and surprisingly spacious. Their long tables encourage socialization. My only criticism is that they don't start serving alcohol until 3pm on Sundays (they start at noon on Saturdays). It was kind of a bummer finding that out when we got there. The biggest bonus? Drift food truck does their catering and they are AMAZING. Renting a sheet of ice is very reasonably priced, making curling a super accessible sport here. They also periodically offer learn to curl clinics to teach you the basics. The clinic is only $20, lasts for 2 hours, and includes a drink of your choice following the lesson. Definitely worth checking out if you are a beginner. I would highly recommend Shamrock for beginner curlers because it is incredible inviting. I would also recommend it to more experienced folks for the same reason!

Both have great views of the ice, depending on whether or not you want a table or a couch to watch from. The downstairs area has a small canteen with food (menu varies) that is generally pub style. The servings are huge (and tasty)! Upstairs there is a full service bar and tables. There are some games to play if you are waiting between matches and bathrooms on both levels. I loved the community feel of the club, with regulars having their own beer mugs on the wall, and lovely touches like upgraded faucets and flowers in the women's washrooms. I had no idea what to expect from a curling club, and this is a welcoming homey place to relax with friends, whether you are curling or not.

Little community league spray parks like this are a real gem! With playground equipment designed for toddlers and bigger kids AND a section of swings, this community league has got it all. There is a green shack here in the summer but I think the hours were 230-6PM Monday through Friday so we just missed them opening. Back behind the grassy knoll were great hills that just begged for bike riding fun or sledding in the winter! The park is fenced off with a couple entrances/exits but I REALLY appreciate limtied entries and exits when watching multiple kiddos 5 & under at a park! The water portion was small in comparison to the spray and splash parks listed on the city of Edmonton website but this is still a total gem! There was more than enough water features to keep the approximately 30 kids in the water entertained and the sandy toddler area also had toddler height sand/water tables for more fun play! There were washrooms available for our use and the Ottewell Community League playschool was also on site today. Man... If I lilved here, I would most DEFINITELY be having my kiddo's next birthday party here! There is a fairly large covered area with multiple picnic tables and quite a few shady spots and benches around the park. This particular visit was rather humorous because I had to rescue some screaming kidlets from squishing and stepping on poo that some kid left on the ground - YUCK! Thankfully, the washrooms came in handy so I could grab some paper towels and clean it up best I could for the kidlets! If you have toddler or little kids, then this park is worth the drive from anywhere around Edmonton! And through the winter the full size skating rink is amazing with a full size locker room for changing comfortably. It's always clean and there are great things for the kids to play with young and old. It's also a busy little Hall for events and bookings. With seating capacity up to 120, there is a electric fire place and a projector with a screen for all this slide shows. The best thing about the hall is the huge chef's kitchen. Tons of room with all the bells and whistles for catering your own events. It also has a nice bar with a huge fridge and serving area for that professional touch. Did I mention the commercial Ice Maker? Yeah one of those too! The rental rates are fantastic and even better if you a community league member!

It's recently been redone, so everything is in great condition. It's got a lot of pathways lined with plants and grassy areas to wander around. While I wouldn't necessarily describe it as a sculpture garden, there are a number of pieces. Since going to art galleries and museums has fallen on a spectrum from impossible to ill-advised, Borden Park's sculptures gave me a chance to see some art while I'm in Edmonton. The centerpiece of Borden Park is the natural swimming pool. Unfortunately, this is closed for the 2020 summer season. More importantly, the washrooms are also closed for the season. If you have a strong bladder and/or are prepared to pop a squat somewhere (there are plenty of trees and bushes for privacy) there are lots of nice picnic areas. You already have hand sanitizer with you, right? There are some very cool looking playground structures, which are open. There are groups of tables of various sizes, some of which are wheelchair accessible, as well as ample grounds for picnics while conforming to social distancing guidelines. There's a save-on-foods on the other side of the parking lot in case you don't want to carry picnic foods from home.

They always have the ice fresh and the rink lit up, even on the coldest days of winter when some people would rather stay in bed than maintain a rink. The only downside is that it can get really busy sometimes and it's tough to enjoy a crowded rink but most days you can get a good pick up game going.

It's mostly peaceful but can get a bit noisy since there's an elementary school just to the right. There's plenty of space, even enough to play a game of soccer, which a lot of kids doo. It's also a great place to take your dog for a walk (just make sure you pick up after yourself). As a bonus, it does have a skating/hockey rink so it's useful in the winter as well as the summer (unlike many parks in South Edmonton).

Due to capacity limits our friends were unable to join us and so we'll have to try again another time to go with friends but this first experience for a public swim was excellent! The toddler really loved the shark shaped flotation device to ride and the waterslide was a hit all around. The little kid slide was good too though it ended in deeper water than the toddler was used to... it was still enjoyable! The pool was very busy which was a bit overwhelming due to the pandemic. The other fitness areas looked good from afar. The family change room was great though the first locker we tried to use didn't work so we had to try another locker to secure our belongings. I liked the fact that the family change room had everyone change in change rooms which is great -- and it really wasn't a family change room but rather an all-gender/all-abilities change room for the pool which is a refreshing change! Having the lockers be free was great too! And the shower was okay. All in all the this changing facility seemed a bit too busy too but otherwise was just fine. I liked the hot tub and the slide. This facility is reasonably well situated for transit accessibility. Parking is tight but there's a great map for alternate areas if the lot is too busy. We'll be back for more community swims... and possibly for more eventually!

The in-water climbing wall is interesting, if a little odd. Pool is divided into kids' shallower pool with a few spray features and another for lane swimming, which is probably a good choice. The fitness equipment has moved upstairs, and the running track is suspended over the indoor soccer fields, which given the noise level there will mean runners will not be having any zen running experiences. Or their ipods will be cranked up high. There are a couple of multipurpose rooms right off the entrance area - one set up as toddler play room and another with tables and chairs which will undoubtedly host hundreds of birthday parties a year. The parking lot is quite small so when there are two soccer games on it will be crowded. All in all a very nice upgrade to the neighbourhood.
