It's a good vibe, quiet, well-light, and perfect for parking yourself there for long periods of time. Nothing beats Rutherford to me. I'm not even a University student anymore and here I am! North will always be the superior side to me because I'm more of a lone wolf. It's also close to HUB for people who need food/a study break.

The university has a plethora of study spaces, but for me Rutherford is the best. Rutherford South…read moreoffers many options of plug-ins for your laptop though there could be more. The ground floor spaces tend to be noisier that floors 2-5. My imagination loves the tight narrow lines of bookshelves on the floors. It reminds me of scenes from Ghostbusters. I half expect Slimer to pop out any second. Speaking of ghost stories, Rutherford North has the distinction of being the only place in my life where I felt like I had a semi-haunted experience. Many years ago I was in the basement looking at some rare books and heard faint whispering in the background. There appeared to be nobody else in the vicinity, but there were clear sounds of a whispered conversation going on. It made the hairs on the back of my head stand up and I still get a little spooked when using the basement washrooms in the North. Of course the experience coincided with having been up the entire previous night finishing off a paper, so the psyche was a bit scrambled! The reading room in Rutherford North is my favourite place to study. It's quiet but not too quiet and it's got a ton of character.

I love that I can borrow books and read them off my phone using the Libby app. So cool. I put my…read morephone screen on dark mode and read for a few minutes in bed on my way to dreamland. This gives me a way to read that doesn't disturb my partner while letting me brush away the cares of the day from my busy mind. My eyes start to close and I turn my phone off. I don't need to go to the library to get a good book, I can get one instantly from a list of available books. Did I say how much I love Libby? I love Libby! Libby helps me keep track of characters in murder mysteries, it allows me to check the meaning of a newly encountered word, it also lets me highlight sections and take notes for the next time I borrow a book that I might read again. If I want to see a picture of some plant or architectural feature or type of hat mentioned in the text, Libby makes it easy to google for an image. Yes I love Libby.

I was also helped with requesting a novel into circulation. There are so many things you can do online. Cool site. This location rocks. It's in an historic building. It's busy but quiet. I like to sit downstairs and read magazines. I also like the foreign language education C.Ds selection. Upstairs there are rooms to host community events and special interests. Open on Sunday. Good hours.

The puzzle may be temporary ~ we've worked on two different puzzles in the past month. The teen area upstairs is cool. You can check out comics, manga and more !! Cozy up with your tea and a magazine while the sun kisses your nose ~ inside or on their second story enclosed patio. I highly anticipated the opening of this library. The first year after its opening, I felt the interior lacked warmth. Five years later this gem established loyal visitors, those visitors and the new, bring a pulse ~ a warmth. This is one of several Edmonton library's i highly recommend. The librarians are fun & informative ~ and patient with our never ending requests to bring in BOOKS ! Check them out !!

There are computers and iPad and other games and activities that cater to different age groups. The two family bathrooms in this area are good because the main bathrooms can have some unsavoury characters in there sometimes. The plaza outside of kids area windows has been under construction resurfacing the square for a long time. It's directly south of the library and hopefully it will be available soon. There is a Second Cup coffee shop in entrance way lobby which is a nice option but there are other cafes downtown that have better coffee and food offerings in my opinion. The interactive screen in front lobby is always a hit for my kids. And there is a smaller screen that is behind the large main display. The new LRT line goes directly in front of the library which should be good for access. There are often houseless people in the area and often in front of the library entrance or inside the library. If you're bringing children, be vigilant and always aware of your surroundings especially outside of the library. Both my children got library memberships before they turned one and the EPL gives a free children's book upon sign up. You can look through their selection and choose the book.

I visited the 24 hour drop slot - and it hasn't moved. Sadly, the construction crews had blocked the accessible ramp - so there were only stairs to the ramp... although after hours, I'm not sure how many other folks would be visiting to return books. The photos look amazing, and all the amenities from "THE WALL" - an interactive GIANT touch screen, to the Makerspace, to Gamerspace, Outreach services to the PÎYÊSÎW WÂSKÂHIKAN (Thunderbird House) is their first dedicated Indigenous space that is built for ceremony and gatherings. Coming soon are the EPL Kitchen, Muttart Theatre and Second Cup Coffee Co. (thank goodness). I can't wait to see it all myself, but for now, I'll look through the glass and dream about lounging indoors again.
