And the ground is my favorite for parks--the bouncy synthetic kind that I find personally find safer (over wood chip). And everything still looks quite new. The park is for younger kids, geared towards 2-5 years old-- perfect for my almost-3-year old. And there is a gate that fences the playground in, so it's safer to keep those renegade kids in.

It's totally surrounded by apartments too, and I drove back and forth on the street for a while and realized there is absolutely zero street parking near the park. I thought I could go around to the other side of the park, but there is no "other side." It's completely hemmed in by a fence on all sides other than the street. I parked right out front near the park name sign (you could fit a whopping 3 cars in that space) but I'm not even sure it's legal because it kinda looks like a loading zone. Other than the parking, it's a nice little park. Plenty of shade and grass (saw a bunch of people with dogs). Small structure with two slides. Sounds like there used to be swings? There's a small section that is caution taped off. A few scattered picnic tables, half of which are in the shade. Some of the ground is the bouncy plastic turf (I have no idea what it's called, sorry) and some is tanbark. It's really perfect for my two year old on a hot day (the shade is excellent, covers the entire play structure, and the play structure, while small, is entertaining enough for her to spend quite a while). However, I'm not going to be back because it's totally inaccessible for people who don't live within walking distance. If I lived nearby, we would come all the time.

There is a 'loading zone' in the front which is essentially where we parked. It's a cute play area for young ones, with some tires to crawl through, one some playground, and a couple swings. Best for age 1-4 I'd say. I loved how lush the whole area area, and they did a lovely job landscaping a small patch of land. Apparently the land used to be an orchard. The whole place is nicely shaded with huge trees, there are little grass hills for kids to run up and down on, and a lovely little bridge, and even under the bridge the ravine is lush with clovers. It just so happened to be right after Easter weekend and the plentiful garbage bins were 100% overflowing. With that said, the parks still came off quite tidy. Park visitors clearly made the effort to throw things away in appropriate areas and overflowed garbage bags were placed right along the bathroom building. City workers stopped by shortly after and BAM!! Everything was cleared and cleaned. Doerr Park comes recommended for children of all ages. There is a kiddy area and a more advanced play structure for the older kids in your life. The structure provides a lot of American Ninja Warrior vibes as opposed to your basic swing set and slide. 5/5 stars. This park is so bomb!!!

We have a heat wave right now in San Jose but I was still able to take my kid here because of all the natural shade from the oak trees. It's especially pretty during the fall because the trees have all turned colors. It's nestled in a neighborhood so feels safe and quaint. I liked the cute "kids only" treehouse sign on the playground. My daughter enjoyed climbing the faux rocks. It was busy on the Saturday we came. The bad: The sand and splash pad area are adjacent so that gets messy with kids. The interesting: The name comes from the former principal of the school that used to be located where the park is now.

The big kid area is pretty much completely shaded(!), but the tot area just has partial shade. The tot area is gated all around, and there are multiple entry points which is cool. This is a small but beautiful park with plenty of appealing features including a bridge at the…read moreentrance with the Saratoga Creek running underneath, picnic tables and seating, a grassy field, a volleyball net set up, a playground for the kids with swings and climbing structures, and a woodsy area in the back which is gorgeous in autumn with all the fallen leaves from the various trees and the colors of the season creating lovely scenery. The trail on the border was not the sturdiest path, with large rocks protruding from the dirt and warning signs posted to "enter at your own risk". But I was still able to get a good run in while exploring the park, extending to the neighborhood since, again, the park is small. There were several porta potties on site, as well as a parking lot for convenience. Such a carefree and relaxing atmosphere, with the adorable shops and eateries of Big Basin Way just around the corner.
