Theres hardly anything interesting in there to see, seeing as the larger department stores like Debenhams and BHS is in close reach. Beales has really outdated itself making itsself a failure. There product range is poor, the items are pricey, the customer service is very poor and all seem to be stuck up attitude. The interior design is extremely poor and lighting is bad. If this store doesn't improve, it will definitely go down hill.

As we tour this 'green and pleasant land' we suss out M&S cafes for coffee. They are our trusted go to brand at home. The staff - just like here in this store in Bath centre - are mega polite, the cafe tables are kept clean (not Starbucks greatest strength) the coffee is darn good, there's always toilets and if you are there after 3pm there's a coffee and cake deal running now with any coffee and a slice of cake £3. I got a slice of delicious Victoria sponge with my cappuccino and they cheerfully served up iced tap water that was not only free but it was plentiful too. The coffee and cake deal after 3pm is cheaper than a tall cappuccino in Starbucks too. We noticed too that M&S is now selling other brands like Clarke's, Smiggle and Jaeger. There are two fundamental truths in business - the only constant is change and customers make pay days. Go M&S.

I would class this as more of a market with a clutch of consessions, a raft of perfumery companies and others plying their trades. Couple that with it being overcrowded of stock, expensive for what the clothes are, and too easy to get lost in, I would liken this to a Morroccan souk. Oh and I forgot, to get into the shop you have to battle with hoards of kids sitting on the steps but then that hasn't changed since it was Style & Gerrish. There are some beautiful greetings cards, items of jewellery, well-made children's toys, a few men's accessories, travel bags, purses, umbrellas and much more. The whole place is more intimate than large department stores such as House of Fraser or John Lewis, and the feeling is one of quality over quantity. For me, the gift and homeware areas are probably the most appealing, but glancing into their other 'departments' they have a Homes & Gardens area, a kitchen department, a range of furniture, plus some fabrics, lamps, mirrors, and more. They also offer an interior design service, though I dread to think how much that costs.

Their gift section is also fantastic with brands like L'Occitane and Burt's Bees for toiletries, some really pretty scarves and jewellery, and then beautiful gift bags and paper to wrap them in. It's a shame this department store is hidden away and now has to compete with John Lewis, because it sells such beautiful things and it could be so easily missed if you didn't know about it. It's expensive, but everything is so nice that if I want something, I have to have it however much it costs.
