I would recommend this place to anyone! Meaghan is a gifted healer. I have only recently begun treatment and I've had great results so far. I have struggled with insomnia since I was a small child. It takes serious effort for me to fall asleep in my own bed, and I struggle greatly in unfamiliar settings. My first time here, I walked into a room full of strangers, sat in a comfortable chair, was pricked by ten tiny needles, and fell asleep within moments. I woke up nearly an hour later not even realizing that I'd fallen asleep. I had no idea what to expect with acupuncture. A customer of mine recommended it, so when I found a Groupon deal for two sessions for $20 at Edgewater Acupuncture, I thought I'd give it a try. The setting is not what I was expecting, but it really works. It's a large room full of recliners, white noise, gentle ambient music, Himalayan salt lamps, and remarkably relaxed people, usually sleeping. Tell Meaghan what ails you, and you'll surely be feeling better in no time. Give it a chance, the results build with consistent sessions. I love this place!!! A few of my family members go here too and Megan is amazing. I originally found out about this place via LivingSocial and it was such a great discovery. They have a few location in Edgewater so just make sure to check that you're going to the right place. They have a private bathroom, comfy recliner chairs, a peaceful atmosphere and soft lighting. It may seem odd to do acupuncture in one big room, but trust me it's amazing. No one bothers you, it's incredibly relaxing, and it's not a space where others engage in conversation. Everyone is respectful of each other. I would recommend making an appointment, and do note that they do have a cancellation fee. You can stay as long as you'd like. When you're ready to leave, just open your eyes- they peek into the room often to make sure everyone is relaxed or who is ready to go. It's a sliding scale which is fantastic for those on a budget so we can afford to come back. It's worth it. The first time fee is $40 I think. They give you a form to fill out where you can list some on your concerns or things you're looking to work on. I have a major phobia of needles but am just fine with acupuncture. It is the slightest pinch but the way it makes you feel is truly amazing. If you're skeptical, just try it once. It's not the price of a standard acupuncture facility. Also they have warm blankets and that's great because my feet get cold when I have to take off my socks and shoes. It's a great place. Check out the hours before heading there too. Edgewater Acupuncture I will be honest - I do not get the hype this place gets. I would say it's ok as a backup spot to go to, but I wouldn't choose this as my primary place for treatment. I am going through an IVF process and as it is widely known in the infertility circles you should always do a session right before and immediately after the embryo transfer to increase the chances of the embryo implanting. With my first child I only did the after transfer acupuncture session and had success with it. I went to Annapolis Community Acupuncture and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The staff there were very welcoming and made me feel like it was going to work, they explained to me in detail what the session was going to do and how it would work to increase the chances and just in general made me confident of the outcome. With IVF #2 my embryo transfer fell on a Friday morning and Annapolis Acupuncture was closed so I had to find something else. I chose Edgewater Acupuncture based on Yelp reviews. The receptionist called me with directions which I appreciated, but she was so dry sounding. When I arrived at the place, it looked like a loading zone of a grocery store - the entrance is in the back of the building and just didn't look inviting at all. Here you arrive possibly carrying a new life into this area where business usually place their dumps.When I walked and spoke with the receptionist it already sounded like I had chosen the wrong place - she sounded matter of fact and very dry, didn't appear very friendly or welcoming. But whatever. Then I went in and saw the room - it was so void of any character, just a bunch of chairs in a boring room. Very different from the welcoming and inviting, cozy atmosphere of the Annapolis Community Acupuncture center. Then the practitioner came over to discuss my issue. I explained to her that I had just had an embryo transfer and would like to do a session of acupuncture to increase my chances, as recommended. Upon hearing it she immediately told me that I should have been coming all this time and that, even though they would do their best, there is very little they can do (pretty much that's how it sounded). Very promising, don't you think! I told her what I've previously done and that I would just need a one time session, but she appeared to not hear me. She then proceed asking me about what other things ail me, whether I sleep ok, this and that... Just fishing for information she could use to recruit me for recurring visits. When she returned, she informed me that she had made a plan for me to come back tomorrow, two times the next week, and then weekly. Note that I did not ask for a plan. I didn't mention any intention to use acupuncture regularly. I had no issues carrying my first child, just getting pregnant, and I honestly think it's better to spend that precious time away from your child on exercise than acupuncture. She didn't explain why I even needed a plan. She didn't say what that plan was and what it would do at all and how multiple acupuncture sessions weekly after would help me with the embryo implantation, which, if it were to happen, would happen 1-4 days afterwards. She just came up with something! In my mind it was to make money and that's it. There was no consideration for my real needs and she didn't listen. To make things worse, when I woke up one needle was making my wrist very uncomfortable. I looked at it and it looked blue. Sure enough I have now have this huge bruise on my wrist. Very disappointed with this place and will be going elsewhere from now on. They also automatically subscribed me for their text messages, harassing me about future appointments. After reading up on the website and it's convenient location, I decided to give it a shot after several months without an acupuncture treatment. Having relocated from DC into the suburbs, I hadn't found anyone out here with a business that I genuinely liked for complimentary/alternative medicine. My first appointment this morning was very nice! Meaghan, the lead acupuncturist, is very sweet and has a warm personality which, for some, may help alleviate the mild anxiety of having needles put in you! Not to worry; the mild nervousness of seeing them sticking out of your skin will be calmed moments later by a feeling of deep relaxation. There's some paperwork to fill out first that asks about your general medical history and details any concerns that you want to address in the session, along with your standard medical liability release. Appointments are easily booked through the website, too. The style of this practice is community acupuncture, meaning that rather than being in a room by yourself, you are stretched back in a recliner with 5 or 6 other people in the room. At first, I thought this would make me uncomfortable, but it's actually nice to not feel so isolated during the time of relaxation! There's the sound of water running in the background and soft, gentle music in the room. Meaghan will then sit with you and discuss what you'd like to have addressed in the session. After a brief intake, she'll place the needless in, check your level of comfort, explain what to do when you're ready to finish, and then go on to the next person in the room. Even with the others in the room, it's still a very personal feeling, and Meaghan genuinely seems to be interested in your concerns and well-being. Payment is done on a sliding scale between $15-35, with all new patients paying a one-time $10 paperwork fee in addition. All the treatment is the same, though, regardless of how much you pay on the scale, and payment is given before the session begins. My only comment would be that with my past acupuncture, she recommended different remedies and other alternatives to improving my health in addition to coming regularly to acupuncture, and I think that the group setting makes this "post-session" time a little more difficult to have. I will definitely be returning regularly though, so perhaps as time goes on, we will have more time to chat about other measures we can take to improve my health. This review is very hard for me to talk about and I really did not want to think about it again but if I can help someone with this review then I think it's all worth it. This was about two years ago when I went here. I had Bells Palsy and I was desperate. I tried many things like apple cider vinegar, raw fruits and veggies, I slept as much as I can, full body massage (that cost so much money), de-stressing through epsom salt baths, of course I went to the hospital and I got medication but after 3 weeks none worked and I was getting married in just two weeks. I didn't want to walk down the aisle with the most important day of my life to look like I did. It's not that I am vain by any means but who wants to look at their pictures and videos and forever remember that? Thank goodness they were in Groupon, I bought three rounds of acupuncture. I went and made an appointment that same afternoon. It was late, at the time I think they were closing at 5 and I got there at 4. The front desk lady was so nice and so kind. While many people was giving me a hard time when I spoke or stared so rudely she did not. I know I was hard to understand but she took her time to really talk to me not once did I feel bad. I went in and they told me the acupuncturist was ready for me. The room was dimly lit. The chairs were recliners that had pillows and blankets. The sound of birds made me feel like I was in a paradise, just so soothing and relaxing. The acupuncturist was talking to me and her voice was also soothing. She asked me what I was in for and what I wanted to get done. I told her I had Bells Palsy and she wiped alcohol on the parts where I would be poked with needles. It didn't hurt. It wasn't deep. She put needles on parts of my face and my arms. After a few minutes, the part where she had placed the needles in my face where I couldn't move suddenly started to twitch!!! I wasn't able to move it before but it started moving on it's own. That went in for about 30 minutes. She removed the needles and and disposed of it and I was done. I made another appointment 3 days later and it was with the owner. I went it and was welcomed once again and the owner asked me what I was in for. I told her and she began placing the needles now around my legs, feet, hands and arm. I asked her why she was doing that and she said they don't usually put it in the face right away. I said the other girl did it but she reassured me that it would work and honestly it did! I went back again the next Tuesday and by then I was able to move the left side of my face. By the end of that week, I was able to go to my Bridal Shower and no one suspected that I even had Bells Palsy. For those who suffers from it, Acupuncture really works!! I actually wish I didn't do anything else but Acupuncture because I felt like I wasted so much money but it's okay because in the end, I was healed and I didn't have Bells Palsy when I walked down that aisle. The group therapy concept, I will admit was a bit strange at first but after reading about how group therapy has many benefits I figured why not try it. Everyone is there for the same thing to feel better or to make others feel better - positive vibes from all who enter. Now I can say I have been going to Edgewater Acupuncture for a few years now and I am never disappointed in the atmosphere (positive and calming), my treatment (always helps), hours/process (easy, convenient, walk-in or appointments) nor the cost (can't beat it)! One thing that also makes me smile (beside the previously mentioned) is I also get a quick nap in and frankly so do many others! At times I wonder how long some individuals have been sleeping - point being you are never rushed out of your treatment, you stay as long as you need. Meaghan and Ana Paula provide compassionate care beyond any traditional doctor's office (sterile, bright lights and impersonal). I have been visiting "Edgewater Acupuncture" over a year. No one go to Acupuncture session for fun, but to relieve from suffering. Stress is the major issue, most of us facing these days and "Megan" does know how to sooth my pain. You'll like the dim light room with falling water noise which will make you sleep while relax with nature lullaby. All chairs recline and they have plenty of pillow and throws. No appointment is necessary but recommended, as they will let you in ahead of walk in who is already in the office ahead of you waiting for open chair. Even though it is group session, you will not notice there are other people once you shut your eye. Megan is so good at it as she will insert needles at the right position to relieve you from your suffering. She is berry berry friendly and will keep an eye on you so that she will come next to you when you need her. When your birthdays add up decade after decade, our body need adjustment here and there, if not daily but monthly. Edgewater Acupuncture will not drain your wallet as you are the one who decide what to pay between $15 & $35. LIFE CHANGING!!! I came with a friend and was super skeptical about acupuncture but she swore it had helped her and her son in the past. I suffered (yes past tense!!) from horrible terrible period cramps. I mean I was constantly poppin 800mg of Motrin q6 and would lay in bed just miserable!!Of course I had been to the OBGYN and everything always checked out and was "normal". So at my first visit I told Jenna who is fabulous, why I was there. She took my pulse which she called listening to my heart and then cleaned the sites she was going to insert the needles in, with alcohol swabs. I have to be honest... a few areas where TENDER! It wasnt like it hurt like being stabbed but it was uncomfortable. After a few mins, I literally felt NADA! The one area that was still tender, I pulled out and it was fine. But definitely let them know and they will adjust it!Anyways, I have been back every month since I started going in April and have only skipped one month. To say that acupuncture has been LIFE CHANGING is a huge UNDERSTATEMENT!! Not once have I had to take Motrin for pain, and my cramps are non-existent! I have definitely seen a change in my flow too!! TMI i know but guys!! This works!!! Now im on a acupuncture high and its a must for me. Im telling my sister, my mom, anyone that'll listen! Bring your own blanket, eye mask and earpods and relax as the therapy does its work!! Or dont!! The lighting and music is so soothing in there already!! I went to see Meaghan because of some pain I was having and also because of the great pricing. I"d never been to a Dr.s' office with such a relaxed atmosphere and I really appreciated the feel of the place. Soft cushie recliners and a serene soft splashing of the fountain muting any sounds from outside. I loved the expert way she handled new clients and showed them around and made them feel at home for future visits to her homelike office. A room full of recliners, and you pick your favorite. I noticed there was alot of locals receiving benefit and that was great. Some knitting, sewing, others just reclining. Meaghan comes to your side and asks what issues you want to address while there that day. ( **After having intake where she finds out all the particulars of your health) .. Then she carefully places the needles in to restore the flow of Chi in the body. I had some needles in my arms and was quite surprised to feel a circuit of energy swirling in my palms as I was reclining. Very quickly it seemed the chi was recirculating in my body. As I reclined and relaxed I saw a trickle of people coming in and taking recliners and Meaghan would come with her little kit, listen attentively and then insert the needles expertly as what appeared to be Veterans began to relax. Loved the fact that she doesn't really know what it is you donate, just assumes the best, that you will give an honest amount - the box is outside the office and you put $$ in before you receive treatment.
