STAY WAY from this Barbershop. They messed up my hair cut so bad . I had very important dinner meeting. I had to cancel everything. They cut my head. So frustrated. Wish I could give 0 start! AVOID THIS PLACE. They don't know what they are doing . I will definitely report it . read more

for $50 you should get someone who pays attention and doesnt charge you $50 for a 15 minute completely inattentive, unfinished and sloppy haircut. I've had better free cuts I've done myself from friends and family who've never cut hair before. you should be ashamed of yourself. read more

Fucked me up i listen to phonk then got a haircut that cost a quarter. I wake up with a 67 edge line up. I paid 67 cents for an effoc.

Do not advise anyone go to this shop. Showed the guy how I wear my hair daily. The barber the pushed my hair line back so far I had to cut it all off after I left. The gentleman seemed to be interested in other things than his customer. The barber had no passion or pride in his work. Worse haircut I've received. Save your money, go to a barber who actually cares about the appearance and voice of the client. read more

BROTHERS! AVOID CHARLES SINCLAIR AT ALL COST, OR IT WILL COST YOU YOUR HAIRLINE!!!! The 6ft+, big back, yellow skin Neanderthal looking dude with the crooked glasses CHARLES SINCLAIR- AVOID HIM!!!! I am a very confident man and I have never in my life had a haircut so awful that I was so embarrassed to walk out of the shop for anyone to see. He disregarded my request and did his own thing with my hair, then peeled my hairline back so far I discovered a birthmark I never knew I had! He then injured my forehead with his shears in an attempt to fix his mess. ON TOP OF THAT- after he was finished, doused my face with alcohol so it could get in my eyes, then quickly pushed the mirror in my face to ask how the cut was as if I didn't see his mess half way through the haircut. I tried my absolute best to keep my composure and not go apeshit and politely asked him, "as a barber of 30 YEARS, do you feel comfortable giving your customer this haircut?" He went on to say that he is confident in his cut. I think because of my calm demeanor he thought I would accept it, BUT THEN when I continued to tell him all the things wrong with the haircut, in a professional manner, he tried to deflect the blame on me, his customer, first stating "oh it's the lighting, oh it's the angle you are looking at it, oh this is what you told me to do" WHAT? A MESSAGE FOR MANAGEMENT- It is one thing for a barber to make a mistake, but then try to deflect the blame on your customer for his oversight and mistake is despicable in my book and he should never be allowed to cut anyone's hair unless it's a zero/bald trim. He even messed up my goatee! HE THEN HAD THE AUDACITY- To say that he will charge me half price of $60 and then told me $40 is what I owe. The only reason I paid was because the barber lady next to him was getting stiffed by her customer after she did a wonderful cut to her client. SO CHARLES SINCLAIR IF YOU READ THIS, THE MONEY WAS FOR YOUR COUNTERPART WOMAN NEXT TO YOU who is 10 times the man and barber you will ever be. I WILL END THIS REVIEW WITH- BROTHERS if you love or have any respect for your hairline, avoid this man in the far back left of the shop, 6ft+ big back yellow skin, Neanderthal looking Shrek looking barber with the crooked glasses, you will regret it as he is grossly unqualified to be a barber as I am writing my review at 4:20AM and came back at 5:30AM to add more because I couldn't sleep until I got this off my chest! read more

Having lived in various cities, I've been to dozens of barbershops in my life. Never have I visited a more unprofessional shop than this one. I called ahead of time to ask if they were available for a walk-in, I was told yes. I got to the shop at 7:00 PM. With no other customers in the shop, the barber had me sit there for over 1 hour because he said he had two appointments. In the meantime, he took out garbage, inexplicably disappeared without saying anything, and when the first of his two appointments arrived, he cut his hair... for over an hour. After arriving at 7:00 PM, I finally left at 9:30 PM before he finished cutting the singular customer he had taken since I'd been sitting there. Not to mention it was an awful haircut. Every time I looked over, the customer looked exactly the same. It got to the point that the customer stood up, took the clippers and said "let me help you out," before cutting his own hair in the mirror. Bizarre. Whoever your barber is, stick with them. Don't give this place your business. Trust me. read more

I've been going to Charles for my haircuts since 2012. He's always given me a dependable cut and is very accessible when comes to making appointments that work with your schedule. I can communicate with him the cut I'm seeking and he makes it happen. He has longtime regulars for a reason. read more

Edges is one of the best barber shops around. I've been taking my son there for the last 10 years. Charles, is the only one I trust with my son's hair. He enjoys going there and has been since he was 2 years old. I will continue to take him there for many years to come. read more

I've been living in DC for 12 years now and Edges Barber Shop on U St NW is the worse I have been to. The staff is very unprofessional, they keep you waiting while they play video games, leaving the shop while you're waiting on them and don't let you know that they are returning or not. Even when you have an appointment your wait is 45 mins to an hour. I visited the shop back in 2011 and the service was the same then. I decided to give them a second try today and sadly the staff is still the same with new barbers. I would not recommend them to anyone even if they don't have an option, I would tell anyone it's better to do without a haircut than going to Edges Barber shop on U St NW. read more

I had my first haircut from Edges today. I was not let down. The atmosphere is great and very welcoming. It has a nice unique characteristic. I saw some reviews about the video game playing on google, and I truly did not mind it. It was before my appointment time and the workers were enjoying their free time - absolutely nothing wrong with that. I got a cut from Joe, the owner. He was great. I could tell he was paying significant attention to detail. Not once through the haircut did I question anything he was doing. I was very happy with the final product. Also, the prices are very reasonable - especially for being in a busy part of DC. Compared to other barbers of this quality, this is the much better deal. And their prices aren't too far off the shoddy barbers in the area too. Great quality and value. read more

Really liked these guys. It's been a while since I've done barber shops. I'm usually used to cutting my own hair. Doesn't take much to cut it all off. But recently I've been venturing out to the barbers. And I like it. You don't go to a barber for a haircut unless it's something complicated, like a "gumbi". Usually it's the conversation. Stepping into this establishment was like stepping into a movie. The first thing you hear is a theory about how capitalism's focus on monetary wealth has ruined African-American culture. Yeah, I'm home. So I settle in for a five minute haircut that will take a half an hour to accomplish. We discuss music, politics, religion, education, and the mixture thereof. The barbershop is as urban center where the community can come together over the "thing". An leave looking fly. read more

I beg you not to use these barbershop. I went to get my brother a haircut. The owner said I needed to pay before the cut. I said okay, what if the barber doesn't do a good job. He said I could leave and go somewhere else, I explained to him that is not how you speak to a customer. He said he didn't need me nor my brother and we can leave. He said he's been there for more than 10years and he will be there with or without our business. He was just as hell. No little customer service. I gladly left. Go somewhere else if u can folks . I was wondering why the other 2 barbers, one male and one female, were looking at me crazy. I didn't realize until after I got home that I only had one side burn. I went in with two. Was visiting DC and needed an emergency cut. They got me right. Good cuts and good people.

This barbershop is amazing! They provide great service hands down. The atmosphere is fantastic, the staff are fantastic and skilled at what they do. I walked in the shop without an appointment and there was a chair ready for me. My barber, Charles, was fantastic. When I sat in his chair, he told me I'd love my cut by the time that I left and he was right. He took his time and hooked me up with a solid wave cut, goatee & mustache trim. Definitely coming back for my next cut! read more

Overpriced with horrible service. I have been to at least 30 different barbershops in my lifetime. This is the single most unprofessional shop that i have ever been to. I once traveled about 45 minutes to get to the shop. One of the barbers told me the shop was closed an hour before the scheduled time on Yelp and on the website. He told me that I was begging for a cut and pretty much slammed the door in my face. Another barber tried to charge me to line up my hairline after a cut. Please save your money and just go somewhere else, its not worth it. There are several other options in Washington D.C. UPDATE: I got a direct message on yelp from the owner. I didn't even have the issue with him but this is exactly what he wrote to me: "F U and your money we don't need yo b a. You shouldn't Have came back the second time stupid" Moral of the story - just go to another barbershop. read more

In town for a graduation and needed to get a fresh line up and a little off the top. Didn't have an appointment and just randomly walked past this shop and decided to stop in. It's really hard to find a good black barbershop in 2018. I rely on yelp these days to point me in the right direction. The fades are excellent, the conversation is engaging and when I leave I always look my best. I've coming to see Tony in the shop for the last few years and he always takes the time to make sure I leave with the perfect cut every time. Come on down to Edges if you're looking for black excellence! read more

Atrocious. I asked to have a length of hair removed; instead, the barber began a short buzz cut of that length, and he kept me turned away from the mirror so I couldn't see what was going on. By the time I checked, it was far too late. He was distracted, looking at the TV and chatting with others in the shop, and took cuts out of my hair as if slicing the air with a sword. Moreover, days later I'm still finding hair bits on my scalp that are too dark and thick to be my own. The razor used for my shearing was clearly not cleaned between uses. The one redeeming virtue was that I was not charged for my haircut; however, even had the barber not erred spectacularly, I would never return because of the lack of sanitation and professionalism. read more

My teen son had an excellent detailed haircut from Marcus. He is very picky and wanted a particular style. Marcus was honest about what he couldn't do and took his time. Darrell was absolutely awesome. Let me start my appointment like 10 mins early, great vibes and fun conversation, and left with the best haircut i've ever gotten. Legitimately blown away by how good it is, as I just moved to DC and it usually takes a few tries to find a good barber. Not this time- Darrell, you've got yourself a customer as long as I'm here! I found this barber shop by chance when looking for a new barber in the city. It's not the fanciest place, but the barbers are great and always give me a great fade. The price is very good for the quality of the haircut provided. I have been back several times and will continue to make the trip up to U street to keep getting my haircut. read more

The ONLY CON is parking. The barbershop is located on U St near the U St. Metro and where you have TONS of restaurants and shopping. Sundays are the best day because many people get their weekend cuts on Friday or Saturday mornings. In this location several barbers are ready for service you. The place stays busy but the barbers I've encountered are courteous and do great work. There is no appointments needed like most places. Just show up. read more

Good barbers but one of the most appealing aspects of the shop (the hours) is arguably among the most frustrating. For the third consecutive time, I've tried to get a hair cut and showed up at a quarter til 9 and each time, the doors were locked with someone getting their hair cut and the shop was closed. I understand making appointments, but oftentimes schedules (like mine) don't permit for making appointments so walk-ins are the best option. It's very frustrating to come across town only to leave and try again with hopes that there would be a better outcome. I would suggest to the management that they revise the hours that are listed here, and I would advise consumers to show up early or call in advance to make an appointment. read more

I love going to Edges Barbershop not only for the great haircuts but also the whole barbershop experience, and all the Barbers there are great at what they do. Great hospital service from a black owned barbershop with a long operating track record and relationship with the DC community. Cree is the man. I moved to DC in June for an internship, and I came to Edges off of a friend's recommendation. Haven't really been elsewhere since, except once in Maryland. I get tape-ups, and Cree (the barber at the very front of the shop right in front of the window) holds it down every time. The fade is bless. I've seen barbers at Edges charge a pretty penny for a cut, though, so I'm not sure how much you'll have to come out of your pocket, but it's worth it if you let Cree cut you. read more

In terms of service, I thought the barbers were relatively friendly and attentive. However, I left immediately after my haircut to take money out of the bank (they only accept cash for some strange reason) and when I returned, the female barber was going through my backpack while the customers watched...no one told her to stop. When I confronted her, she said she was making sure it was mine. Long story short, I will never return to that poorly lit basement again. Good luck! read more
