Now that it has been a while I can still honestly say I'd never take my pets anywhere else. I now have 8 cats and 1 dog and they are well taken care of here. I have found maybe one other vet who will take my animals on short notice. They actually try to have spots available for sick animals on a daily basis. I've had well visits, sick visits, dentals, lumpectomies, spays, and neuters done here with amazing results. They care for my easy animals. They care for my difficult animals. When something needs to be done they always tell me and get it done. Compared to other vets I've seen they are so reasonable. They have tons of services and options. My dog needed to see a cardiologist and I got a referral that day. She needed an abdominal ultrasound and it was scheduled in a week. My kittens needed to be fixed and both were done within 1.5 months. My dog had to get a mass removed and they got me in short notice, and the results came back at a reasonable time. All of the vets I've seen and the techs who help my animals have been amazing. The girls at the front desk are so helpful and a pleasure to see first and last. I've never had a negative experience here, I'm glad I found this place. read more

Avoid Flying with cat, in cabin. spent a few hours reading online about the experience. Seemed consensus was "go to vet, get medication" called and explained why we needed an apt. Showed up and the vet said airlines don't allow this--not true, the rep on the line even said it's common to sedate animals when in cabin." the vet might have thought our cat was in the hold. i was incredulous when she said it was dangerous and said "so when humans are sedated it's dangerous?" we are talking a mild sedative for an in cabin pet. she was upset with this and essentially said it's dangerous and to deal with it and let's get that rabies shot now." i told her "not here." wife was on facetime in the pocket and when i got out to the car she said "see, those yelp reviews warned us." they replied on the google review that i was yelling and loud and didn't stay to listen to options. this place is a horrid practice. no wonder they were the only place that had available appointments. the food vets were booked. read more

Not the same place it used to be years ago. Horrible experience!! My poor dog took a fall and hurt her back. I brought her there strictly for an evaluation for acupuncture which Dr Barnes informed me he really just did that to "add it to his quiver" so I guess he doesn't do it anymore. So he wanted to Xray my girl who weighs 70lbs and I asked do you want us to carry her back there? He said no I have "strapping" staff who can handle it. Then in walk the geriatric crew with towels. By the time I left there she could not walk at all!!! He sold us some false information about a Librela shot, said there had been NO REPORTED SIDE EFFECTS, wow, what a lie. Then scheduled her back in a month for a second shot. No steroid, no anything. I scheduled that appt with Dr Barnes, the night b4 I was to bring her in I got a call confirming the appt but was told "Dr Stephanie" would be seeing her. I said no Dr Barnes specifically told us to schedule with him. But I kept the appt with "Dr. Stephanie" who was the rudest, ignorant, most dismissive vet I have ever met. Dr Stephanie Andruskevich was absolutely the worst. No people skill at all and no concern for my dog at all. She came in the room and immediately tried to pet my dog while she was with us and I said no, don't do that she guards. She said What? I said she guards, she then said I don't know what you mean? I said you are a vet and you don't know a dog behavior term? I said let me explain, when we are in the room and you, a stranger reach over and try to pet her she will bite you because she is GUARDING us. So she motioned to the unconcerned staff to go get a muzzle and I said no, you are no muzzling my dog. I will hold her. I did and she spent literally 3 seconds feeling her back and stood up and said she has IVDD. I disagreed and she didnt like that. Oh well. When I left I scheduled an appt again with Dr Barnes. I came in 5 days later and told Dr Barnes this whole mess. He apologized and was a little shocked. So were we! After I left that day I made up my mind and called Port City and took my dog to Dr Riggs, a neurologist who is AMAZING. My dog went from non ambulatory to walking and getting up by herself. Then last week I got a call from them saying they forgot to bill me $226.00 for an Xray??? I paid over $500 for a consult, then $146.00 for the appt with Dr Stephanie that was useless and then another appt with Barnes that made me decide to go to Port City. I refused and today I got a registered letter from them stating "our attitude and interaction with their personnel have made it impossible for the doctors and staff to communicate in that fashion" As a result they will be unable to provide any further medical or emergency care for my pets" That is hysterical!!! Did they honestly think we would ever go back there again for any reason?? THEY are all the worst, the staff and the doctors we saw! Dr Barnes stop pushing Librela, there ARE side effects and a lot of them!! READ!!!! Something none of your vets seems to do. But maybe you are getting those good kickbacks for pushing Big Pharma's agenda while no one suffers but poor dogs and their owners that blindly believe you! We have been going here for 25+ years with our last 3 dogs. We recently had to have our dog put down. It was an hour and a half horror show. It started with the vet coming in and saying this was her first time doing this procedure. We should have left then. The initial injection to put the dog to sleep wasn't taking and she said another one would be. Then she couldn't find a vein to give the final injection. After moving our dog from the floor to a table and three more attempts to find a vein it was finally over. And it only cost 122 dollars! read more

I've seen a few vets over the years but I seem to have better luck here. They treat my cats well and their prices are on the lower end of the spectrum. Most of the vet techs are extra nice. One always has a puss on her face but she's OK to deal with. They do have different vets you'll see depending on what day you go in. This last one seems like she was a little disapproving but it was a weird situation. One minor peeve. They took blood for labwork yesterday and told me they'd call today with the results when I asked when I would hear. Still hadn't gotten a call by 4:30 so I called to check. Apparently they were slammed today and the receptionist said the vet would most likely call tomorrow. The rule is "under promise, over deliver". Should have just told me I'd hear by Monday and I would have been really happy to get word on Saturday. I'm just not sure if there's bad news so the waiting sucks. read more

This vet is the most uncaring place to bring your pet. They are rude and obnoxious. I brought my pet there and was charged over 1400.00 because my cat was having bowel issues. When I complained about how expensive it was the girl at the front desk told me that I could euthanize her as an alternative. What kind of response is that - not someone who really cares about my pet. They had to put the cat on prescription food. During this covid virus they haven't been able to ship the food. I called to get a bag and they told me I haven't been there in 2 years so they cannot help me - after managing my prescription for the past 2 years. Least professional and most botched euthanasia I have ever heard of or experienced. First, the vet did her best to persuade us not to put our dog down that day which, as the nearly 90 minute ordeal wore on, was clearly because she had never done it before nor did she want to. In between reviewing ways to keep the dog alive, she kept inserting "but I'm not judging you" when clearly she was. Once we convinced the vet this was a decision we had no come to lightly, she proceeded to leave the room and yell "the dog had diarrhea everywhere" to some staff on the other side. The first shot took forever to work and clearly didn't put our poor pup completely out. When the vet returned, she told us "I've never done this before" and could barely read the form that said whether we wanted a cremation. She then proceeded to fail to put an IV in 4x before asking us to move our moderately sedated large shepherd onto the table (causing our dog to become more agitated) where she tried 3 more times until she finally succeeded in finding a vein. In the midst of this she was angrily commanding the vet tech (who was very kind) to do things like it was his fault this was going so poorly. ONLY when the last shot was administered did she show any compassion for our pup and actually touched our dog in what I thought was going to be a loving manner. And then she proceeded to poke our now deceased dog in the eye to make sure she was truly no longer alive. Not a confirmation of a heartbeat or anything - but a poke in a deceased animal's eye looking for a reaction. It was horrible and traumatic and I will never ever take another animal or recommend this place to any pet owner who truly cares about their animal again. After all of that, they didn't even give us an itemized bill and charged us what we're assuming was the full amount and probably for all the extra IVs that she had to throw out. The vet never told us her name because she was in such a rush to convince us to not move forward with the euthanasia, but she had no bedside manner and poor professionalism. I know with Covid and general issues with staffing that Vets have taken a beating these past so I have been giving all staff a pass, but this was unforgivable. I've been taking my pets to Edgefield since I moved in almost 20 years ago. They are great vets and Dr. Barnes has always taken the time needed with my pets. They always follow up with us after treatment. I will go nowhere else but Edgefield for my pets!! read more

MONEY GRUBBERS. I had my two dogs seen by the vet for skin issues. The vet recommended my dog be put on Brevecto. I was supposed to pick it up that day but because of a financial pinch I was in I had to put it off two weeks. I came back to pick it up and the receptionist told me that I had to pay AGAIN for a wellness visit in order to get the Brevecto!!! She tried telling me it was the law and when I called her on that she said " Well, its an ethical issue" I dont understand how it could an ethical issue when the vet prescribed it to me for my dogs! BUNCH OF MONEY GRUBBERS ( Vets were nice) but I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I cannot recommend this practice for several reasons. As a consumer, my experience was negative as my family suffered a mis-diagnosis of cancer in my pet. A second opinion settled on a totally different and accurate diagnosis. Additionally, I witnessed the secretary addressing a patient in a very condescending way which made the elderly person very uncomfortable. I had been rudely "admonished" by the same staff member in the past and decided after the mis-diagnosis that it waI have left this practice. My initial impression 11 years ago was that they were positive, friendly and caring. Dr. Tosillo took lots of time with me and my pet, talking petting etc. She answered my questions and gave advice in a professional way. Despite the fact that the office is dark and dingy and the receptionist was a bit snippy I continued to go there after Dr Tosillo left. That changed after a mis-diagnosis of cancer in my pet. We were horrified after being told that "It is not a good diagnosis"....Well it was not cancer and my pet is at my feet as I write this two years later. An incident with the long-haired receptionist on a previous visit had also soured me! After speaking to a vet tech about one of my animals I asked if I could call back later to speak with the vet because I was at work. Not willing to let an opportunity to stab a co-worker she took control of the situation, phoned me, and gave me instructions about how I was to speak with Dr. Barnes. She also made an unnecessary and negative remark about her collegue. She was totally out of line and inappropriate. The previous person I spoke with had all the facts and was very pleasant. This individual should not be working with people or animals. I do not recommend this practice. Additionally they are expensive, develop an attitude if you ask for a prescription to purchase meds elsewhere to save money, and Dr. Barnes never even looked at me the entire time he worked on my animal the last time I was there. s time to leave. read more

Horrible. One vet tech who works there was rude, mean and verbally abusive. They tried to order useless exams and labs for our animals...when we questioned them after spending over three hundred dollars the vet tech claimed I was not a good pet owner! I need to inform and express my very extreme concerns for anyone who is going to Dr. Irving Salkowitz out of Edgefield Animal Hospital in Hampstead, NH. Today I had by far the most unprofessional and disturbing experience of my life. I brought my 14 week old Doberman pup in today for his one week follow up after getting his ears cropped. Well, from the moment I walked in Dr. Salkowitz was displeased with me because apparently I was supposed to take the cup off of my pups head two days before todays visit, this I can assure was never in the instructions, I was told to do everything possible to keep the cup protected and that if the cup comes off then to not try to tape it back on, when I tried to explain what I was told I was met with hostility and disrespect. He informed me that he didn't need to tell me how he does his job and that he's been doing this so long that apparently he is outside human condition and cant make a mistake...but that is beside the point. Whether or not he made the mistake or myself, the horrifying part of this experience is that he took his frustration out on my puppy...aggressively cutting the stitches out of his ears all I could see was my puppy screaming and crying from the pain, blood all over the table, and the urine that he let go because of the traumatizing condition he was put in. On top of that after the Dr was done cutting the stitches, he proceeded to kick me out. I was forced to bring my puppy home bleeding and so out of it that he could not even pick his head up. I was not given any ointment or medicine for my pup, I was not given any instruction on what to do next, or how to stop the bleeding, all I was given was a backseat full of blood and a traumatizing experience for both myself and my baby. I will NEVER go to him again and I warn others who may consider going to him. read more
