I've been renting a condo at Edgecreek for almost a year now and I've had a relatively pleasant experience. The management office is run well, it's clean and the onsite manager is very easy to talk to and get along with. They aren't exactly like apartments, as I am dealing with a landlord of a single unit rather than it being managed as a whole with the entire complex, which has a nice feel to it. I have a 1 on 1 rapport with my landlord and it makes it easier to stay in contact and handle any problems. I have a medium sized Pit Bull which the management office said was okay, but I suspect it's on a case-by-case basis, specifically because my dog was under a year old and very docile. Still, they have an addendum for large dogs which is rare in apartments.
I have had some minor problems with parking (I'm in the back of the complex, right on the Park Bend street) but not so bad I can't find a spot inside the parking lot. When I first moved in I had a bike stolen from my patio on the first floor, which is unfortunate but also my fault for not securing it properly. I feel like that could have happened anywhere so I don't hold it against Edgecreek. The grounds are well-kept and there are doggie stations throughout the complex (best is next to the mailboxes!) which makes everything convenient and clean. As mentioned in another review, about a mile away is the Walnut Creek Park with accompanying bike trails. You can just hop on your bike and head over without having to drive anywhere, and it's a great place to take any animals.
There is a bus stop right on Metric on the corner at Cedar Bend, and direct access to Mopac via Park Bend or 35 via Parmer. The Hideout is a bar just at Mopac at Park Bend which makes for a nice place to go out and not be too far from home. There is a coinless laundromat right next door which has high reviews here on Yelp in addition to a couple places to eat and a corner store. ACC Northridge is a minute south which only highlights its affordability to a college student.
(YMMV on this next part as my unit is an individually owned condo, not apartment, despite the complex being called "Edgecreek Apartments." I can't speak for every building here, but I suspect that is the case.)
While it's not the Hilton, it's definitely a decent place to live and for ~$1/sq-ft it's a good price. Inside my 1st floor 1B/1B is hard wood laminate flooring, crown molding, a modest bedroom, a kitchen with a bar opening, relatively new appliances, W/D hookup, a large patio with extra storage, and a large living area with a fireplace. Just don't expect more than you see and definitely be cautious. I don't doubt that some landlords are shadier than others, I feel like I got lucky to have a good, communicative and honest owner to deal with. read more
