We get to work at lots of Studios but nothing like this place. This building met all my needs. The kitchen is better than my at home kitchen . Everybody was so professional and friendly. I do not recommend this place unless you've already been working with a voice coach for some time. They will always get you in during the demos saying how you "can make it" and have "a unique voice for voiceovers" and all that Jazz but once you actually pay the few thousand for a demo, you will quickly find out that they suddenly have a ton of things you can work on and although you have a voice coach, they'll let you know that ALL that money you paid only cover a few lessons that they forgot to tell you aren't enough for voice over and no matter how much you practice on your own they will always find something for you to fix and that's where the additional called for $175 comes from. Within the time of meeting these additional teachers, the way they teach may not be aligned with your demo coach so it's almost like you paid extra for nothing and the small time you have for the $175 you pay PER SESSION isn't enough for you to get to know these additional coaches for proper training. It's all a money grab. Unless you have a few extra $200 to spend PER EXTRA NEEDED SESSIONS, because the THOUSANDS you paid for your demos will never be enough time to get properly trained, you're just throwing money away. The best option is to just hire a voiceover coach ON YOUR OWN, then pay for the demo with your coach guiding you. read more

Are there any other rental places in LA?? I wouldn't know because Edge is the first and only choice for lighting equipment rentals. Everyone who works there is extremely helpful and most importantly so nice. I love my pick up and drop off visits. They're super knowledgeable, perfect for someone like me who is completely inept when it comes to lighting. Everything I rent works well and helps me produce amazing images for my clients. Definitely consider them for your photography renting needs. read more

This is a great space to shoot at. Negotiated a reasonable daily rate over the phone and when I got the quote, my client booked it with ease and I looked like a winner. While I do I wish there were ovens and a full kitchen for food photography, the studio was very upfront about what they had and I was welcome to scope out all the equipment a day beforehand to make sure I had what I needed to proceed with a food shoot. Fun fact--saw some former Calumet employees here which was TERRIFIC because Calumet left so many of them high and dry when that company suddenly closed shop. The only negative the whole day was the fact that there was condensation drip from the ventilation pipes and in the middle of our shoot, water started steadily dripping (maybe a drop every minute or so) onto our styled shoot and the camera equipment. It wasn't horrific and it was slow enough to where my assistant and I easily readjusted, but definitely annoying and one of those things you definitely don't need when you have a client hanging over your head and you're trying to make magic happen. The staff was super friendly and understanding when it took us a while to clean up. We saw them repaint the white cyc wall while we were getting our stuff together and in a matter of minutes their team made the studio look brand spanking new and welcoming for the next client. If you're a working creative professional in the city, you need to have a roster of available studios of all sizes and price points ready to go when you book commercial shoots and EDGE should definitely be pretty up there. read more

I am a beauty and fashion photographer and I have been shooting in studios around Los Angeles for over 15 years. I have to give the staff at Edge Studios & Grip a BIG compliment for their professional customer service and their easy going attitude. For the past year I have rented their spaces multiple times. The small studio is great if you want to shoot with daylight, simply open up the gate. It is definitely a perfect space for Beauty or Stills. The Make up area could have better lighting, but that again was covered by the grip staff and a large LED light was given to us for no charge. Their large space is great for fashion shoots or any other bigger shoot and gives people enough space and privacy. My client was absolutely thrilled and impressed with the large space, the cleanliness and naturally was I. The Make up and Hair area is large enough for 3 - 4 people, wardrobe has their own private room, which gives them privacy and it is right next to the stage. I work with Edge Grip as well for all my other larger shoots where I need a lot of equipment delivered to a specific location. They have always been on time and we never had a problem. I enjoy their attention to detail, their clear communication skills and their immediate responses to any of my emails or phone calls. Keep up the good work! read more

The Edge Studios & Grip are my go to studio and equipment rental house in LA. I'm a professional photographer and always try and keep my shoots to the highest of standards. Edge's crew are helpful, and always work with my schedule and accommodations. I'd definitely recommend them for their studios or photo rentals for location. The studios both 1 & 2 are equipped with great shooting cyc's, ambient light and fully ready for hair/makeup, wardrobe and production. NOT FOR SPEAKING EVENTS Might be great for photo shoots but acoustics are horrible, absolutely ridiculously horrible. WORST venue I've ever experienced for a 50-attendee speaking event/class. Only one auxiliary electrical outlet (that I could find) for charging electronic devices, only one bathroom (major bottleneck during breaks)...major disappointment for such an epic speaker and class. read more

My experience at edge was super fun. The entire staff was great and during the shoot I had a great time. I happened to have an awesome conversation with one of the guys on the shoot named Kevin and he made me super comfortable through the whole thing. The photographer was on point and I'm really happy with the finished project. I'm going to use the photos for headshots for Wilhelmina and I'm so happy with the results I can't wait to let the agency see them. BEST. WEDDING VENUE. EVER! We recently had our dream wedding at Edge studio & grip, and renting the space was a big part of the day. We worked with Jessica, the event manager, and she made the entire process a breeze. She was a mix of professional and fun, while going above and beyond for us as clients. She was flexible with rentals, with the caterer, and with random requests that we had throughout the process. The venue was clean and exactly as she promised it would be for the day of our event. Jess and the Edge team were very responsive and helped in whatever way they could, leading up to the wedding. I'm sure this company is great for rentals equipment, but thats about it. Renting the studio was a disaster. The staff is nice, but the management is a mess. We had called to rent the venue for a private event. We had a "Hold" on a date, that they assured us would be saved for us. When we called to ask for the contract, they said our "hold was given away and mistakenly double booked. This happened 2x, and it was only down hill from there. They "promised" us a million things and didn't deliver on any of them. They added chargers once it was too late to back out and find another studio. They never return calls, and took a month to get us a contract. They tell you there is plenty of parking, and then will tell you (a few days before using the studio) to bring a check for $25 per spot you use across the street. I was a professional event planner for 8 years, this was the worse venue I have ever come across. They made our rental process a horrible experience. I recommend that anyone that works with them get everything in writing, they over promise and under deliver by 100%. We were promised: - the venue at a cheaper cost than we paid (they had us pay the difference in the deposit and then made up a bunch of charges to keep it). The only valid charge was damage to a wall. The rest were completely false claims. They said the bathroom was damaged by a female product, which is impossible because we rented portable restrooms for females, only males used the restroom they are claiming. - They promised us access to a parking lot that never came to fruition and we had to scrabble to rent another lot for our guest which was an added cost we didn't anticipate - We had to chasing the venue down for a contract for almost 8 weeks and they promised us every time we spoke, by EOD today, 8 wks later that day finally came. They hiked up the deposit price 48 hours prior to our rental date by 50% leaving us no choice but to pay it. I could write a book about all the issues we had with the way this business is run, but it's just taken too much and cost way to much to continue to dwell on. I just hope that the next person that uses the venue learns from our mistakes with them. read more

I've been shooting at Edge and renting their EQ for a few years now. They offer really affordable, large, clean spaces and have their own grip rental house attached to their studios! There is plenty of seating, a great wardrobe room and area for hair and makeup. Their staff is very helpful and always friendly. They have always worked to make sure I have everything I need on shoots, have replaced the malfunctioning equipment quickly the very few times something was acting up, and make timely deliveries and pickups for on location shoots. This company is one of the best grip companies to rent from, whether it is equipment to rent or studio space they offer real good service. I do shoot architectural and on certain occasion I have to rent equipment. One time art director changed his mind at last minute , and I had to have equipment delivered. They delivered in a very timely manner all the way to San Diego, CA. Some times I rent the studio to shoot portraiture, they have always handled my clients with utmost respect and provided all the equipment to get the job done. Studio is nice, clean and big. The large size helps to build a ratio and do dramatic character studies and low key portraits. And, because of the size one can use long lenses, specially on large formats, to prevent facial distortion. I highly recommend this outfit. read more
