I joined edge 2 years ago, I wanted to start a healthier life style which meant taking a chance on myself. the minute I walked into edge I felt so welcomed and I'm one who doesnt like to try new places because I get intimidated fast. not the case here, since joining I have made long lasting friendships and have discovered a new side I didn't know I had. I joined EDGE in Nov 2019 and I definitely don't regret it! In the past, I found it hard to find a gym I actually wanted to keep coming back to. I'm a person who loves group fitness classes but I don't have many friends here who want to work out with me, since I'm still fairly new to the city. It sounds corny, but I was able to make some friends at EDGE and that's what has kept me going! ...Also the pugs don't hurt since I'm an avid dog lover...but anyway, all the coaches are awesome and personable. They're always more than happy to help you with modifications to workouts (ex. no jumping) in case that's a barrier to entry for you. Honestly, there's a reason this place has 5 stars. It's awesome! I absolutely adore the Edge Athlete community and the lounge itself. While I am not a member of Edge, I have participated in their Marathon training program with many of their well-trained and fabulous run coaches. Training with Edge for the marathon gave me access to multiple group runs a week, unparalleled training, and, most importantly, access to one of the most supportive athletic groups in the city of Chicago. The Edge community cares about one another and their athletes, which makes this training program particularly special. While I do not use the Lounge facilities often (this Northsider doesn't like to travel outside of her neighborhood very often...), they provide a variety of recovery tools to meet every athlete's needs. From ice baths to recovery boots, and access to an onsite chiropractor, your recovery will be absolutely on point with Edge. They also offer regular group classes in terms of strength, yoga, and endurance groups. I also participated in the marathon training group back in 2018 and met Coach Robyn through Nike Run Club. Whether you're an elite athlete or a newbie they will welcome you with open arms and will make sure that you are successful with your goals and your training, not only they provide recovery they also provide classes with great Coaches as well. It has been a tradition of mine to come to Edge before the Chicago Marathon for "precovery" and post race as well. I initially found out about Edge through a running blog that raved about Robyn (the owner), and how amazing she is and how she helped the blogger achieve goals she never thought were possible. After doing a little research on Edge, I was completely sold. It was exactly what I was looking for and more! I scheduled an appointment, met some amazing staff, coaches, and members. Everyone was AMAZING and so welcoming!! 3 months later, I can say I have no regrets and my experience here exceeded my expectations. I joined their 5 Weeks To Fit challenge and lost 15 pounds, gained lean muscle, lost body fat, and most of all gained so much knowledge about nutrition and fitness that I will always be able to use. In just 3 months, my fitness level has greatly increased and I have gotten so much stronger. I never felt better in my life! EDGE is not your typical gym. It's more of a clubhouse for athletes - and athletes of all levels. It doesn't matter if you just come to classes from time to time or run ultramarathons, you feel as though you matter. The strength classes are my favorite - super small class size paired with knowledgeable coaches who will kick your butt (with kindness.) Even though the classes are 30-45 mins, you will feel it and see results. I promise. The cycling 'pain cave' is small, but very nice and not lit with fluorescent lights. Actually all the spaces of EDGE don't look like a normal gym. It's defiantly a safe space for people who don't like the "typical gym vibe." Recovery and café services are top notch. It's defiantly worth getting a day pass after an event to sip a latte while reclining on a leather chair in some recovery boots. Oh, and there are pugs there! read more

Been here many times for recovery and always enjoy the freindly staff and members. They are not kidding when they say fresh legs, I ran 20 miles can here and was able to run again the next day with out much soreness feeling. Participated in the 6 week challenge to see what else the facility had to offer and i was blown away by the classes and coaches. They know how to push the athletes and classes keep changing from week to week so you dont feel u hit a plateau. With their guidance I was able to drop 29 pounds in 6 weeks !! I've used Edge primarily for their Metabolic Efficiency coaching services, as I'm an Ironman athlete who has been challenged with GI issues regularly when training and racing (particularly in the marathon). Robyn is a certified coach, and helped me to adjust my eating habits for both day-to-day and sports nutrition to pretty much eliminate my issues. As a side bonus, I lost 9 pounds in the 5 weeks of working closely with her. (I had stubborn weight to lose and this was my secondary goal.) She's incredibly supportive as you go through these changes to your eating habits, and helps you set incremental goals as well as to provide guidance or examples on how to eat for metabolic efficiency. The facility, which I had access to during my period of coaching, is awesome. I loved using the ice bath and recovery boots after my long weekend workouts. Loved them and they help you be ready to push it in your workouts again sooner! read more

I have know Robyn for a few years. She is extremely helpful and a great resource. I was really excited to learn about the business she was opening. Well I was blown away how great the place is. The recovery boots are magic, but more important is the lounge feel and all the extras. The private chnging rooms with showers are nicer than any gym in the city. The coffee, the food, all great healthy options. I finally tried the Kikr cycle trainers, they blow away any trainer that I have read. Oh yea, forgot the ice tub, an absolute must right after a workout. There is a great social aspect of the place. Come relax, recover and meet other great people in Chicago. I like to think of Edge Athlete Lounge as the Mecca for my endurance training. Since my first visit to Edge, I felt a part of the community and knew I had to instantly become a member. This past summer, I was training for my second marathon with an injury and Edge helped me continue my training in a healthy way and achieve a 15 minute PR!!! It makes sense that the Edge is my first Yelp review as I feel like a new person since I've gone through their 6-week challenge program (twice) and have been a member for 8 months or so. Although, I've done other weight loss diets and trained for run races and triathlons, I wasn't seeing much in results. I was trying to shed my grad school/ college weight before my wedding but no luck. Until the Edge. The combine forces of diet guidance, classes (called the Edge workout of the day or EWODs), the monetary deposit that could only be won back upon successful completion of the challenge, and the continued accountability coach check-ins made a huge impact and I'm pleased to say I've met and surpassed #weddinggoals and general health and life goals that I had originally set. The classes are engaging and always at least slightly different (and only 30-45 mins!) which makes it so much less of a struggle to go. This place is an incredible resource for athletes in Chicago. I was thoroughly impressed with both the services and the staff of Edge after a recent visit. I came in to Edge after a long run, but I think that anyone who is exercising at any level would benefit from everything Edge offers. I had been out for a long run after a peak weak of training. We used the Cold Tank/Hot Tub Contrast Therapy. Wow! Yep, that is a polar plunge. Yet, 100% worth it. I was basically unable to go up stairs on the way in from being so fatigued and sore, and when I left I felt great. I do my best to be descriminate in deciding if this was a placebo effect or not, and I don't think it was. We also used the vasopnuematic air compression sleeves for our legs. These felt amazing, and the leather seats were a great way to relax after a long day. The space is very cool, and it definitely has a great "lounge" feel to it. I did get a cofee from the bar in the front to warm me up after the contrast therapy and to drink while getting the compression therapy. It was very good. Coach Robyn was there, and enjoyed meeting her. You can tell she really loves working with everyone-even when we were there on a Sunday. read more

I came here for a running clinic and the space is nice inside. There is a cute cafe in front and the lounge that has comfy seats where you can relax and a computrainer room. The space looks like a comfy living room with a few tv's that you can relax in. I didn't get to check out the services but the running clinic was great. We got to run alongside the 606 trail which is not far from the lounge. I learned a lot about running form and some drills during the clinic. I definitely want to come back sometime to check out the services. read more

This place is amazing. Training - bike studio. They have wahoo kickr's which are far superior to compu trainers. Read slowtwitch or any of the reviews - Kickr's are where its at. Its a wheel-off design so you don't need a trainer tire or destroy your own wheel. Its also much quieter and easier to set up (can get a bike set up in about a minute). I ride 3 days a week and do a mix of course rides, interval workouts on my own, or interval workouts that Robyn or Ed creates that's appropriate to the workout I need to do. Its a mix of triathletes and cyclists riding here, and everyone is super friendly and supportive. I've ridden at 2 other studios at Chicago and both are considerably more expensive. I left the last place because a lot of the athletes there were kinda pretentious (it happens), but not at Edge. Training - treadmills. They have Woodways. I HATE running on the treadmill. I'll run outside as long as its above 0 degrees, but in Chicago, it gets below 0 (ugh). The Woodways are amazing and feel like you're running outside. Where Edge sets itself apart is in the Recovery - the boots are amazing. After a long workout or FTP test, the boots accelerate the recovery process by days. I'll admit I was skeptical at first but its legit! I SHOULD try the ice bath, but to be honest. ugh. no. no. no. Recovery - the cafe. two words - kong smoothie. I also drink way too much coffee here. Robyn and Brian are super friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. And their pugs Bruce and June are almost always there too. (its a little disappointing when they're not there and I can't get my pug fix). They're also incredibly accommodating and flexible and cater to athlete's needs. read more

I HATE running. It's something I do out of necessity. I seem to get gassed and not recover as well as I should so I decided to seek help. Someone recommended EDGE so I decided to try them out. It was easy to arrange a time via email. I was told that my session would last about one hour. This is where I met Robyn. She was my advisor/ counselor/ coach (?) She was warm, friendly, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. All the things I needed because I HATE running. She gave me the once over at various speeds, and then we worked on things I needed to improve. All in all I'm pleased with the experience and I don't feel like I spent money on crap. I'm going to start implementing some of the stretches and warmup exercises Robyn recommended, and see if my times improve. read more

Participating in the 6-week challenge helped me view food differently. Food is life and what you eat is fuel and energy. I took on the challenge after a couple of years of health issues and finally being well enough to get back to a stronger body. The plan works. If you do the work and stick to the plan you will succeed at getting stronger and healthier. What piqued my interest with this particular challenge was the importance they stressed on eating the right foods to help you reach your goal. I love food but seeing it from a nutritional perspective vs. an emotionally satisfying experience has changed the way I eat. Edge Athlete Lounge is the best place ever to train and to recover. I participated in a 6 week challenge in May of this year. I was to lose 30 pounds in 6 weeks. While, I didn't lose the weight, I gained so much more, which made the challenge worth it. Robin, who is the "bomb-diggidty" is the nicest and most caring person I've had the pleasure to work with. I was and am on an emotional roller coaster during my weight loss journey, and she has on numerous occasions had to talk me off of the ledge, to help me make sense of everything that was going on, and to give myself permission not to be so hard on myself. She is everything I have wanted in a coach. I appreciate she calls me when she hasn't seen me to make sure I am ok. She is truly that person that while she is in business to make a profit, the profit is not what fuels her passion, it's the people and assuring they are getting what they need. Edge is a home away from home. The knowledgeable staff, relaxing ambiance, and cleanliness makes this place a step above the rest. Becoming a member here has revamped my training and helped with my recovery. The staff consists of 5k'ers to ultra-marathoners, duathletes to triathletes, personal coaches, masseuses, and therapists. The members are every type of athlete you can imagine; beginner to advance, weekend warrior to Olympians, and in between. It's a hodgepodge of people (different ages, shapes, and sizes) that all come together for the love of endurance sports and recovery. Edge has offered all of this to its members and more. Before starting the challenge I was always having pain on my feet, my lower back was hurting. I would feel like this and I preferred to not workout because of the pain. Overall, I was not taking much care of myself. I was buying food almost everyday, and I wouldn't pay much attention to what I was eating. In a short amount of time, I gained to much weight. At this point, I wasn't feeling happy with myself. I made it my goal to go to the gym and eat better. I started doing it. But then there were days that I was tired from work and school and I would say to myself, "I won't go today. I'll go tomorrow." That tomorrow ended up being days, weeks, and even months that I did not set foot at the gym. I would then again, go back to my old eating habits with caused me adding more weight to my body. And then once again my goal became to go to the gym, but I missed a day, and it turned into a longer period of time. I was in this constant cycle that was not helping me at all, but rather hurting my body, my health and my self esteem. I got to a point that a lot of my clothes were not fitting me anymore and my energy level at my job was not the best. Working at a daycare I felt like I didn't give the kids my all when it came to activities. That's when I decided that it was time for me to do something, but this time, something that was going to keep me accountable and where I felt, that I myself would be accountable for my actions too. After searching for a while, I came across the 6 week challenge that Edge does. I signed up for an interview and since the first time that I walked in I felt welcomed by everybody. Also during the 6 week challenge and I learned so much about nutrition and to keep pushing in everything even if it's one more second. After the six weeks I've been a witness of how my body has changed, and it's all been thanks to the amazing Edge community, with their support and tips they're always willing to give. I love EDGE! I came here after a half marathon and the next day my legs felt AMAZING! The day after that I was running the fastest I have ever run! So I came to EDGE 2 days before the Chicago Marathon and it definitely made a difference! I felt great running the marathon and my legs never felt tired! I also recovered so much faster!
