Love our local bookstores in Healdsburg!…read more Levin is conveniently located right on the Healdsburg Plaza, so we often pop in to browse before or after going to dinner. And it's a go-to stop for gift purchasing (we've purchased board books from here to send to friends who've had babies!). They sell so many treasures! Of course they sell books, but they also sell vinyl records, local art (custom dog paintings caught our eye!!!), games, and more. On our recent visit, we enjoyed looking through their many board games. Need to add a new one to our collection soon. Don't despair, Levin also has an art gallery and sells records and CDs. There are many pages of writing in folders called books. These 'books' are placed on tables and shelves according to category, with signs that require even more reading. Levin's is a wonderland of great books, and so inviting. A clerk spent 15 minutes with us giving useful suggestions for our summer reads collection. There truly is something for everyone here. Except wine. It's good to buy a couple of books for a long plane ride, or other situations where your cell battery died & you might otherwise be forced to observe your surroundings or interact with another human. LOL Please support this local family business before Amazon finds out they exist.

It's a great little shop with a solid selection, and up until recently I would have recommended it without hesitation. But something I witnessed this past December has been bothering me ever since, and I can't really ignore it anymore. While I was in the store, I overheard the owner, Dana, refer to another employee--who appeared to be special needs--in a way that was honestly shocking. The exact words were: "look, that's my r****d. I make him do whatever I want." The customer they were speaking to looked visibly uncomfortable, and I was too. I've tried to let it go, especially because I've otherwise had positive experiences here, but it's been sitting with me for months. Not only is that kind of language deeply offensive, but I also have a family member who is special needs, and hearing something like that felt like a slap in the face. I'm not posting this lightly. I still think the shop itself has a lot going for it, which makes this even more disappointing. But respect matters, and I hope this is something that gets seriously reflected on.

I clocked the "Used Books" sign on the way through town and had to check it out. I can only wish we still had a shop like this in Santa Cruz. Miles of used (and new) books--like the Tardis, it's bigger on the inside. The mystery section alone was jaw-dropping. I picked up some excellent technical volumes for my archaeologist kid, plus some LPs and a cookbook. Yes, they have used LPs. And puzzles, DVDs, CDs, musical instruments, art supplies. Other eccentric customers for atmosphere. A cool dog, named Zeus. And owner, Chris, was lovely to talk to. This place is pure magic--you should go.

I was expecting the store to be all music focused with the normal token representation that you normally see. But NO! They had all sorts of Warhammer! Lots of the new stuff you find at branded stores but also the out of print and hard to find items too! They had a huge selection of DnD models and source books, again including some hard to find copies. Soon I had a handful of items in hand and was walking towards the counter when I saw a Warhammer battle box that I've been looking for that was out of print. I had to have it! Didn't see a price on it and asked the employee the price. He looked it up but it wasn't in the system and we were able to settle on a very reasonable final price. I've never been to a store that had harder to find items and was still able to make a deal! Absolutely amazing! I live out of town but will be sure to visit Music Merchant every time I'm in town to see what new (or out of print) items they have in stock

The lady that helped us (maybe the owner) was super sweet and friendly we definitely felt welcomed. The place is clean and pretty spacious for large groups.
